Bending is the ability to manipulate an element and is significant to many aspects of life in the world. It is traditionally performed through the motions of one's hands and feet, but certain benders are able to effectively manipulate their element with only minimal movement of their body, such as by using just their head or torso.
In even rarer cases, benders are able to perform their bending without the aid of any physical movement at all, by instead using sheer focus and force of will, a skill known as psychic bending.
The chi or otherwise known as the inner energy or body energy in simple terms refers to the metaphysical energy that flows throughout the human body. It is a concept that serves as the root of bending and an array of other skills.
This is what powers bending and also powers the body. So eating food or resting will create or store energy for the body and that applies to both benders and non benders. The difference is that benders to some extent can manipulate their chi but non benders can't.
It can also be the same as chakra. Chakra is the combination between physical energy and spiritual energy. Though this energy that circulates in the pathway system is a bit different in Avatar world but it was somewhat the same.
This two energies basically travels into network of paths in the body where the chi and chakra flows through. The main difference between the two is that chakra came from the chakra fruit from the God Tree that Kaguya Otstsuki ate. These energy was passed down to his sons and then spread it throughout the world by Hagoromo.
However, the people did not use chakra in the way Hagoromo hoped, instead using it to connect their inner spiritual and physical energies. They kneaded their inner chakra to amplify and weaponise it, creating what is now known as ninjutsu.
On the other hand, chi on Avatar world already exist in one's body. The only problem is that benders have their specific chakra point activated thus manipulating their native elements while non benders have their chakra points deactivated. Lion Turtles used energybending in the past to activate the specific chakra point in the body thus grant people bending powers to defend against spirits in the wilds.
"From what I remember in the series, their are seven chakra points in the body. The thought chakra, light chakra and sound chakra. The rest were the elemental chakras which are the wind chakra, fire chakra, earth chakra and water chakra" Ling mumbled to himself softly.
Looking in front of him, there are firebender students who were paying attention to the lecture of the instructor. Ling eyes suddenly turn red and change into three inverted magatama. He focused his sight on the body of these firebenders and saw the red energy.
'Just as I thought, the fire elemental chakra located on their stomach was open' Ling mentally thought. Well, he already theorized why he can't bend and his parents. Having awaken the sharingan with one tomoe, he can't see these energies but after his eyes was upgraded he saw that the red energy located on the stomach from his parents and his body were not glowing and some other non benders he knew and saw.
"Chakra points were pool of energies that are within the body that enables the chi to flow through these chakra pools. A bender specific chakra point for their element is active compared to a non bender. Their active chakra point has an impact in their whole chi path system and allows their chi to connect with and bend their elements" Ling said while looking at the firebender students in front of him.
"Well if that's the case the people in this world will not be able to differentiate the difference between chakra energy and the chi energy"
"They don't have the ability to see or sense this activated chakra points only the flow of energy within the body but that's it, well except for the avatars if they knew how to energybend like the Lion Turtles" Ling smirked while thinking about letting them know how he can 'firebend' and saying that he can miraculously manipulate his chi and bend fire accidentally while keeping it a secret and kept practicing it.
Ling then noticed that Mr. Muusa climbed on the platform after his lecture and giving pointers to the students.
"Okay now, we will have a simple spar. I will be your opponent and each of you will fight will all your might. Experience is the best teacher after all" he then smirked.
"Come who will volunteer first"
Ling noticed that the students in front of him were silent, then an idea suddenly struck to his mind.
"Well well, this is the perfect opportunity" Ling walked slowly and bypassing the nervous students in the courtyard. He activated his mangekyo in which it has straight pattern tomoe.

Muusa was dumbfounded while looking at this white haired kid having strange yet beautiful red eyes.
"Wha--"
Before he could ask what was the meaning behind his words he noticed that the young boy in front of him putting his hands together near his chin and blow fire in his mouth.

Ling created a tiger seal and gathered chakra in his stomach.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique"
A 20 meter ball of fire came out from his mouth shocking the students below the platform.
"What!"
"Damn! that boy is an enigma"
"He can create fire as big as that? "
"Is he even a student?"
While the other young firebenders was surprised by Ling's display of bending, the one who knew him better and his classmates bulged their eyes and widen their mouth.
'His eyes were red?'
'He can fire bend?'
'But how he isn't a bender'
Muusa was surprised by Ling display of bending only the famed General Iroh known as 'The Dragon of the West' can do that kind of move when he was younger. 'This kid is a genius'.
Muusa put his hand in front and making a circular motion between his hands. The ball of fire which was directed to him suddenly began follow his circular motion successfully blocking it.
"You're a genius kid, I tell you that"
Muusa then punched his right arm following with a spinning kick creating blazing rings and arcs. He then continued to used a circular motion with his feet creating and expanding ring directed it to Ling.

Looking at the numerous fire sent in front of him, Ling just smirked. He then raised his left arm and open is palm in front of the barrages of fire. The instructor was confused also the students below. 'What was he doing?'
"Kagutsuchi" A burst of power came from his right eye.
Everybody witnessed that the blazing arcs of fire suddenly stopped in front of Ling. Then suddenly it turned into multiple sword shapes. There were at least 15 of these flaming sword floating behind him.
Ling then punch his right arm forward and did a summersault kick while activating his mangekyo ability again. Yep, Ling recieved the reward [Enton: Kagutsuchi]. The ability of Sasuke's mangekyo sharingan. It can control and shape transform the flames of the highest fire release, which is the Amaterasu. So if it can control the flames of Amaterasu then why not normal fires.

Looking at the fire swords rotating and coming towards him, Muusa was dumbfounded. 'What the, he can firebend like this'.
Muusa evaded the the five flame rotating swords from his front and jumped to the side but suddenly another five came predicting his movements. He punched it.
"Haaa!"
The fire was blocked and defused in the air.
Ling then used Body Flicker technique and arrived in front of an unaware instructor.
SWOOP
"Leaf Whirlwind"
Muusa was shocked, Ling suddenly arrived in front of him while doing a kick. Ling then made backward high kick using his left foot.
PAAAAK
Muusa crossed his arms and block the blow. 'What a blow'. He staggered backward while looking at the boy in front of him.
Although the first kick is damaging on its own, it's primarily intended as a distraction, forcing Muusa to block it and thus rendering him vulnerable to the second kick.
BAAANG
Muusa was kicked hard and flew for a few meters. He then put his right arm in the ground and did a backflip to stabilize his landing.
Ling joined his hands together creating a horse seal. He don't know and why but it was just an instinct that made him this hand seal. Yeah, he remembered this seal during the fight with the shinobi army episode.
Building up a huge amount of fire-natured chakra inside him, inside his lungs or chest. He then.
