Chapter 13: 12. Joining a squad
Hi!
Here's the new chapter you've been waiting for.
It took so long because at first I was busy with my other fanfic, but then I just had no motivation to continue.
But now the motivation is back!
But don't expect me to regularly update because I want to make some progress on the other fanfic too. You should try the other one, it only has few chapters now but you can still try.
Anyways, enjoy the chap!

While walking over to the blond dude I only smiled as I saw him shuddering and not moving from the spot. He only stands there as he sees me walking over to him.
The others around him long ago retreated as they saw Aether coming their way and as they saw that he went to one specific person they all had looks of pity on their faces. No one would want to voluntarily fight Aether after they saw that he is on the same level as the captain of the Black Bulls. Even if he only fend off one strike, it was still a strike of a captain that no one, that is not even a magic knight yet, should be able to fend off.
Now standing in front of Logan, Aether looked down at him with a 'friendly' smile as he spoke.
"Hello there, I am Aether. I feel that you're the strongest here, after me, and would like to have a friendly spar with you."
Logan now looked even more scared and didn't know what to do.
"Hey." You could hear a whisper.
"Isn't he the son of the leader of the mighty Paulo family?" He asked someone nearby.
"Yeah, he would be the next head of the family I heard."
As these whispers spread around even Logan took notice of it. He then looked at the ground and thought
'That's right. I am the next head of the mighty Paulo family, I shouldn't be scared! I heard he is from that little dirty village that they call Hage. How did a lowly commoner get so much power? It doesn't matter for now. I will accept his request to fight me and if something were to happen to me, the whole Paulo family would hunt him down.' As he thought this his confidence slowly came back and he now had a weird grin on his face as he directly looked up to Aethers eyes.
"Ohhh" and "Ahhh" could be heard from the crowd as they were astounded by the fact that he would dare to directly look into that demon's eyes.
Poor Logan didn't know that even if the whole Paulo family were to fight Aether they wouldn't be a match for him. They don't even have someone on the same level as the weakest Captain here.
'What's wrong with him? His stupid grin annoys me. I will blast it from his face hehe.' Aether thought as he still looked directly in his eyes, still with his 'friendly' smile.
"Okay brats now that every one of you has found a partner, let the first match begin." Yami said with a bored tone but it was somehow still loud enough for everyone to hear.
The first two went to the middle as the other candidates made a circle around them.
One of them is a girl with brunette hair and a pretty face and her opponent is a dude with a haircut all my readers would recognize. He has the legendary haircut I don't know the name of. Basically the one where you can't see half of his face or better-said eyes because his hair is so long.
Anyway, they got on their positions and took out their Grimoires. The girl seems to have a water-based Grimoire because out of her Grimoire water flowed and made a thin layer on her body to probably use as a defense. The boy only smirked and began to run at her. She thought it was the perfect time to take him out since he didn't even use his Grimore so she lifted her arm and began to chant something. The boy still kept running at her without any worries displayed on his face.
As she finished chanting she let out a laugh and shouted "Water cut!".
As she said that a big water jet came out of her hand and she tried to slice him apart.
"You're done!" she shouted but what no one expected, the boy evaded and kept running at her!
"Hahahaha!" he laughed.
"Shit!" she said as the boy got nearer. He almost reached her.
She decided it was best to strengthen her defensive layer of water around her.
But as the boy saw that his grin only grew larger as he almost reached her.
"Hahaha! lightning magic: ..."
'Holy shit, she done." I thought.
Everyone in the arena thought the same. It is basic knowledge that electricity flows well through water.
The face of the girl formed to one of horror. Seems like she realized what is about to happen.
"Chidori!" Hey, that's not your move!
He now in his right hand has Chidori formed. I think I don't have to explain how it looks or what it can do.
Anyway, he now was in front of her and thrust his arm forward. As it all happened in few seconds the girl didn't have enough time to cancel her 'water armor'.
"Uhhh." I said. That surely hurt haha.
So since you know what would happen to her, I am just gonna skip to Aethers fight.

"Next." Yami said. Everyone who didn't pass out already now looked at Aether and Logan.
I jumped in the middle of the ring with pure physical power. Why? I don't know just felt like it. As I landed cracks formed on the ground and as the dust settled you can see me standing there, looking at Logan and signaling him to come with his hand.
"H-he didn't even use his Grimore?!" Everyone was shocked to see his physical power is just as absurd as his magical.
"That little twerp is really strong. I think he could come close to me in physical prowess...Finral." Yami said as he watched Aether's every move.
"Y-yes Yami?" Finral said.
"We have to get that white-haired brat." Yami said without looking away from Aether. Also smoking like always.
"But Yami..." Finral wanted to say something.
"But what, ha?" Yami said, now staring at Finral.
"Hii! E-ehem, I-I am sure we are not the only ones who want him. And wouldn't he choose the h-higher ranking and more p-popular one?" As Finral finished saying this he closed his eyes and rose his arms thinking Yami would hit him.
"Hmm, yes, you are right." Yami said.
Finral looked facilitated that Yami didn't hit him.
"But did you just say that our Black Bulls are not good enough for a twerp like him?" Yami said while his murderous aura rose again.
"N-nooo!" Finrals screams could be heard in the whole arena.
Back to Aether.
He is standing some meters away opposite of Logan.
"Ikofos." My spear appeared in my hand and I gave it a few good swings to 'warm up'. The swings, even if I didn't use any power in them, caused heavy wind currents that made my hair flutter.
"I am ready." I said.
"What an interesting weapon he has. He is not using his Grimoire to summon it, so how does he do it? And I feel it is very strong too. Hmm." Fuegoleon spoke out loud.
"I agree with you, but what also is interesting is his pure physical strength. This is not human-like at all." William said.
'What is this? Why do I have a strange feeling of...dread? every time I look at him and sense his aura. He is dangerous.' William thought while looking intensely at Aether.
Aether feeling a sharp stare at him looks at the source. Seeing that it is William who is staring at him he looks back directly into his eyes releasing a bit more of his aura directed at him.
William suddenly feeling that horrendous aura and seeing Aether staring flinched, 'It is as if he's looking through me directly at my soul like a... a greedy demon, wanting to devour it.' William shook his head to get rid of these bad thoughts.
'He is just a child, what are you thinking William.' He thought.
Aether seeing that thought
'The mighty Captain of the Golden Dawn, flinched at my gaze, hahaha.'
"W-where are you looking at? I am right in front of you!" Logan yelled at me and his Grimoire started glowing and the pages flipped.
"Oh right, almost forgot you haha." I said. This only made him angrier. But no matter how angry he is, it won't help in fighting me.
"You bastard! Flame magic: Blue Inferno!" Logan screamed while pointing his hands at me and huge amounts of mana are gathering in them. A crazy smile was on his face. The blue flames shot out, they were like a tsunami trying to swallow Aether.
'Flames? And they're even blue, cool. Somehow reminds me of Dabi.' I thought.
"DIE YOU FUCKER!" Logan screamed as the flames grew even bigger and hit Aether with their full might!
Or so they thought. As the flames vanished there is not a single trace of him. Not even ashes.
"HAHAHA TAKE THAT YOU ARROGANT LOWLIFE!" But feeling great about that he won with a single move he didn't notice the scene that was happening right behind him.
At first small cracks formed in the air but then, space itself ripped open and Aether fell from inside of it. He was some meters up in the air, now falling directly at Logan with a smirk on his face.
Everyone who saw this had their mouths agape and couldn't believe their eyes. Space magic! It's super op!
"What are you looking at ha?!" Noticing that everyone was looking somewhere with shocked faces he was about to turn around as he suddenly felt like he would die any moment of fear.
It came so suddenly that he nearly shit his pants. With great struggle, he fast turned around and looked above only to see what would hunt him in his nightmares. A demon. He was falling right at him with red eyes and a smile that splits his face in two. Surrounded by dark red and black mist or aura. His hand seemingly glowing.
Aether:
[Skill: {Demons Aura} activated]
"Hahaha..."
[Skill: {Destroyers hands} activated]
"hahaha!"
I am now in front of Logan but since I don't want to kill him, I will only scratch him.
So with all the momentum, I have gained from the fall I brought my arm down. Touching some of his hair and his Grimoire, they instantly disintegrated. As my hand touched the ground a giant explosion was created that blew Logan and some of the other nearby participants away.
Nearly all captains are already standing and leaning over the stone railing looking at the happenings with wide-open eyes while William was still sitting there breathing erratically and cold sweat forming under his mask on his forehead.
As Logan crashed into the arena walls he was already passed out, with his new haircut, destroyed clothes and half of what once was his Grimoire.
Everyone who didn't pass out now looked at the middle of the arena waiting for the dust to settle and see the monster who did this.
"Hm, maybe that was a bit too much." Everyone heard it. And everyone would have facepalmed if they weren't so shocked.
As the dust settled you could see Aether standing in the middle of a giant hole in the ground. Well he wasn't exactly standing on the ground but on his flying spear.
"What the hell." Yami said shocked. That wasn't space magic. That's something evil.
"Oi, William." Yami said but William didn't respond.
"William?" He asked and turned to the side but he still didn't respond. He was just sitting there.
"Are you deaf or what!? William!" Yami yelled in his ear.
"W-what? Ah, I apologize, I spaced out. What do you want Yami?" He asked, now smiling.
"Hm, you're acting strange dude... Anyway, I wanted you to repair the arena a bit with your magic, grow some wood to fill that giant hole there or something." He said.
"Ok. Give me a moment." He said as he stands up and walks to the railing, and looks down. But this time he evaded Aethers gaze and only concentrated on repairing that hole.
His Grimoire started floating and glowing. At that, he raised his arms towards the hole as wood grew there and covered the hole.
"Everyone, the tests are over, gather at the front and we are going to call your numbers and then you step forward. If a captain raises his hand then you can join his squad. If multiple captains raise their hands, you can choose one of them, and if no one raises his hand then fuck off. I mean go home. Everything clear? Good. Now do as I said!" After Yami said this they came out of their stupor and quickly but quietly gathered at the front.
As Aether flew over on his spear everyone made way for him as he stored his spear back and now walked there.
"Number 1, come forward!" Someone shouted.
"Yes!" Number one said and stepped in front of us.

"Number 69, ehhh, I mean 169 step forward!" Seems like he's calling for me.
I stepped forward.
Whispers started going around again. Most of them said that I will go to Golden Dawn since it's the best squad.
The captains started raising their hands one after another. Hm?
"What!?" You could hear from the others.
Every captain, except Golden Dawn, had their hands raised. Even Blue Rose. But why didn't the captain of the Golden Dawn raise his hand. Even the other captains looked surprised by it, but then, thinking that their chance to get me got a bit higher they had smiles on their faces.
'Interesting.' I thought.
"C-choose one of them." The number-calling dude said.
"Hmm, I will take..." Everyone was curious which one he would take. Some thought Blue Rose because of the pretty girls, the others thought Crimson Lion or Silver Eagle.
"I take Firehead." Of course, I know his real name but why not see how he reacts, surely will be funny.
Or not.
"You heard it." He said to the number-calling dude and other captains.
That's the lamest reaction I saw till now.
"What? I-I mean ok. *sigh* Ehh, number 170, step forward." Seems like he expected some fun too.
I turned around and left, this time, on foot.

Damn this took some time to write.
And because you had to wait so long,
it is extra long, you noticed it?
Anyways, how do you find the first real fight scene? Took me some time to write it.
I post this at exactly 00:32 a.m.
I wanted to finish it today.
