After landing, both of them headed to the Hydra factory's main gate, looking over the heavily guarded area. As a spotlight goes by, they duck behind a boulder. They were going to make a plan when three covered trucks came rumbling down the road, and Adam and Steve shared a look. Right as the last truck was going by, they jumped into the back. Once in, they see two hydra soldiers. Adam goes for the right one, and Steve takes out the left one, and they throw them out the back.
In the factory, Steve knocks out a soldier, and they both get out and make their way through parked vehicles, sticking to the shadow, to get into the factory. On the factory floor, they see rockets being built and loaded with the same blue energy Adam saw before. Coming to a bench, Steve pockets a clip of glowing bullets, gets a pat from Adam, and with him pointing to where the prisoners are, they head over. Quietly, over the cages, Adam gets behind the warden and snaps his neck, dropping him on top of one of the cages.
Four prisoners—Falsworth, Jones, Dernier, and Dugan—look up, seeing the two.
"And who the hell are you supposed to
to be??"
"I'm Capitan America; this is Adam."
Going down the cage doors, Adam uses the keys to unlock them; once out, he hands out the rest of the keys, and Steve searches through the prisoner.
"Are there any others?"
"They did take a number of the men to the isolation ward. I'm afraid we haven't seen them since," one of the prisoners named Falsworth said.
Steve considers this as the prisoners gather around. Finally, he hands them a pistol and grenades. "Adam, lead these men outside and help them get free and kill anyone in your way; I'm going to look for Bucky."
Ok, come on, men! Let go and get your freedom!"
"I'll meet you in the clearing with anybody I find inside." Steve is about to leave when a guy named Jones stops him.
"Wait. Are you sure you know what you're doing?"
"Sure. I've knocked out Adolph Hitler over 200 times." Steve says he's running off to find Bucky.
"Ha ha, come on, let's go." Adam goes forward, bursts through a set of double doors, and enters the courtyard area. Looking through the area and spotting multiple enemies, he quickly shoots down two near the door and four more just behind some trucks.
"Get the guns and make your way to the gate!" Adam says this, but then spots Dum Dum Dougan climbing in a Hydra tank. "Douglas, get that tank moving and blow up some shit!"
Turning back, Adam moves, shooting enemies before they can kill the freed soldiers. Running to a bike, Adam grabs the grenades on it and starts throwing them behind soldiers, killing them. The tank Dougan was in started moving, and he fired a shot at a Jeep, blowing it up.
"Move to the gate!" Adam yelled, got on top of the tank, and continued to fire at soldiers in the prisoners way. Just as the factory starts to blow up.
Moving towards the gate, Adam throws two grenades into the watch towers at its sides, and they explode, tossing the Hydra soldiers off. The tank got right in front of the gate and shot it, blowing it up.
"Get to the tree line and take cover!" Adam yells, turning back and jumping down to cover the prisoner who's still getting out. After a bit, Adam saw a weird plane fly off from the roof and knew it was time to get out of there. After making sure everyone was out, Adam went with the last of them to the meet-up point to wait for Steve and Bucky. Sure enough, ten minutes later, he sees a smoked-covered pair walking towards them.
I'm glad you made it; I would hate to tell Peggy that you're dead." Adam gives Steve a knowing smirk.
A blushing Steve just ignored the comment. "Is this everyone?"
Ya, we lost a few, but most made it, thanks to Adam here shooting down anyone pointing at us." Dougan says on top of the tank:
Good, then let's go; we have 30 miles to get to camp."
"Let's head out!"
At the U.S. Camp Phillips tent, the man himself was looking out his window, stoic.
"Senator Brandt, I regret to report that Captain Steven G. Rogers went missing behind enemy lines on the 3rd of last week." He says he is looking down to read the rough draft on his notepad. We see
that he's dictating to the corporal: "Aerial reconnaissance has proven unfruitful. As a result, I must
Declare Captain Rogers killed in action."
The corporal stops typing. Phillips turns to see Peggy standing at the door, red-eyed and tired. "The last surveillance flight is back."
She enters and places aerial pictures of the disintegrated Hydra camp on the table. "No sign of activity."
"Phillips gazes at the photos. Then he looks at the corporal. " Corporal. Why don't you go get a
cup of coffee?" The corporal nods and leaves the room. "I can't touch Stark. He's a civilian and the Army's number-one weapons contractor. You're neither."
"You'll have my resignation in the morning."
"I can probably make it so that you'll avoid a court martial."
"With respect, sir, I don't regret my actions. And I doubt Captain
Rogers and Adam did, either.
"What makes you think I give a damn about your opinions?" Peggy goes cold. Phillips steps forward. "I took a chance on you, Agent Carter. Now that those boys—and a lot of other men—are dead, because you had a crush,"
"It wasn't that." Peggy said it quietly. "I had faith."
"Well, I hope that's a great comfort to you when they shut this division down."
A commotion builds outside. "What the hell's going on out there?" Soldiers are seen running past Phillips' window. He and Peggy move closer to get a better look.
Phillips and Peggy step outside to witness dozens of soldiers hurrying toward the camp entrance. The soldiers make way, unveiling Steve and Adam walking up the road, leading a squad of P.O.W.'s. Makeshift vehicles follow, carrying the remaining prisoners. Steve's uniform is soiled and torn, and his shield is battered and bent. However, his spirits remain high. G.I.'s cheer, and more soldiers come running. Amazed, Phillips looks to Peggy, who wipes away tears. The stunned crowd parted. Steve and Adam salute Phillips.
"Colonel, some of these men need medical attention." Phillips looks at the gaunt faces of the men. He nods. Medics rush in to help the P.O.W.'s.
"We'd like to surrender ourselves for disciplinary action." Adam says
Phillips gazes at Steve's battered and scorched shield and Adams dirty clothes. "That won't be necessary."
"Sir?" Both Steve and Adam look at the Colonel, confused.
"Shut up. With these results, I'd be stupid to punish either of you."
"Yes Sir." They both salute him.
Phillips turns to Peggy, smiling wryly. "Faith, huh?" He walks away as Steve turns to Peggy. She stops herself from hugging him. Taking his leave, Adam grabs Bucky and walks away to give the two a moment.
"You're late." Peggy says to Steve:
He retrieves the Stark transponder, which is riddled with bullet holes. "Sorry, I couldn't call my ride."
They share a prolonged, meaningful gaze. "Let's hear it for Capitan America!" Adam yells, Then..." Soldiers, including those who jeered at Steve during the USO show, gathered around, patting Steve on the back. They brandish his comic book, shouting for Captain America. Camera flashes go off. Despite himself, Steve smiles, finally feeling embraced and accepted after hearing their cheers.
