Chapter 2: Breakout
I was suddenly woken up by a pirate banging on my cage's bars. "Wake up you lousy filth! Captain wants you all on Deck!" He said as he opened my cage and a few next to me, from the two on eather side of mine came a girl and a boy and from the one furthest from me came another girl. They were all around the same age as me but I could tell that I was the oldest...or at least the tallest, you can never tell in the one piece world.
Arriving on deck we were greeted with the smug look of the captain. The man stood pretty tall at least 6 '7, he was wearing a jacket patterned with giraffe spots.
"Looks like we got a good hall boys!" The captain announced to his crew. "Looks like the Giraffe Pirates will be making a few million off the slave market!"
The eyes of myself and the others behind me widened. We were going to be sold into slavery. 'Damnit god, couldn't you have put me in a better position?' Then one of the crew tried to protest selling us of but he was quickly silenced when the captain suddenly shifted into a giraffe and bit down on him before throwing him overboard.
My eyes grew even wider. 'The Ushi Ushi no mi model: Giraffe!? How is that possible I thought Kaku has that fruit.' Then it hit me. 'I must be in the past and this is the pirate Blackbeard killed before Spandam got his hands on the fruit.'
"Any other complaints?" The captain asked his terrified crew. No one raised an objection.
He the turned back to us and told his crew to throw us back into the brig. This time we were put in the same cage and I got a better look at all of them. The only other boy had orange hair and bright red eyes. The taller of the girls had pale violet hair and eyes the color of pine needles,and the smaller girl had auburn hair and blue eyes. We all just looked at each other in silence. I could tell that the boy was terrified by his shaking and mumbling about how it was the end.
"Well if we're going to die I'd at least like to know who I'm dying with." The girl with violet hair spoke. " I'm Tari and I'm Fourteen. What about you guys?"
Taking the opportunity I spoke. "I'm Carter Davil, and I'm also Fourteen.
The short girl spoke up next. "I'm Yuta and I'm Thirteen."
Finally the boy spoke "I'm Michel Smith and I'm thirteen."
Tari then asked if anyone had any ideas on how to get out of here. The other two shook their heads but I said I had something.
"Well what is it?" She whispered.
I thought for a moment before responding.
"I'm a devil fruit user. It might be able to get us out but we need to wait until we hit dry land."
The other kids eyes filled with hope and nodded. I told them to try and gets some sleep. When I finally saw that all three were sound asleep I took out the Yugo Yugo no mi and ate the entire thing in one bite. It. Was. Terrible. But I pushed through it. I would help my new friends and save them from this horrible fate.
——one month later——
Over the past month I've been training my devil fruit. I've learned that I can fuse and combine myself with different substances like the wood of the floor and the metal of the cage giving myself limited logia like abilities. I can also destroy things by unfusing the molecules in objects but it is very difficult and exhausting to do so I will need to practice it more.
The pirates had decided to get some use out of us while they traveled to the island where that were going to sell us on. One they they had barged into our cages and made us do manual labor.
While Tari and I were working on the deck a pirate that was much more decorated then the others approached us. 'We've already seen the captain so I'd guess he's the first mate.' I thought as I tried to make myself as unnoticeable as possible.
It appeared I succeeded because he walked right past me. Signing in relief I when back to may work. Tha is until I heard a scream.
"AAAHHHH! Get your hands of me you bastard!"
Whipping around I could se that the first mate was now grabbing at Tari, more specifically her chest. The pirate simply ignored her and kept touching her and eventually mover his hands downward. Tari attempted to punch him but he dodged and threw a punch of his own.
The blow connected to her face and she was blown back into the ships mast.
"Shut up you little bitch! I'm "Cold Death" Aiz first mate of the giraffe pirates! I do what I want whenever I want and I fuck whatever I please! If you think I'm not good enough for you then you can-""Enough!" I shouted running right at him desperately trying to get his attention off the now unconscious Tari.
"You damn bastard I'll kill you!" I say attempting to strike him.
Much to my surprise he doesn't even try to dodge, he just catches my outstretched arms in mid air. For a moment nothing happens and then I feel it.
"Aaaahhhhh!!!"
Cold. So cold. It burns!
The first mate dropped me to the deck and I notice that where he grabbed me ice had crept up my arms. And it really Hurt!
"Haha! Damn brat! I'm a -10,000 degree human that ate the Samui Samui no mi! I can freeze anything and make ice from thin air!" The first mate declared as he froze the deck around him proving his point.
Meanwhile I was still clutching my frostbite covered arms. All I could think about was the pain.
"Hey you listening?!" Aiz kicked me in the ribs. "Ugh he's no fun either! And he went and spoiled my mood! Hey you!" He shouted at a random crewman. "Take 'em back to the brig! They're useless now."
And the pirate did as ordered. He grabbed me by my now frostbiten arm and did the same to Tari and dragged us below deck.
—8 hours later—
After I finally stopped feeling like the blood in my veins had turned to ice I fixed myself up by de-combining then re-combining my arms. A bout an hour ago Yuta and Michael were brought back into the cage.
After that I made my way over to Tari. She was awake but quite out of it. 'Most definitely traumatized. Not that I can blame her'
"Hey Tari, how you holding up?"
She flinched having not seen me wake up.
"O-oh hey Carter... I'm just... that could have ended so badly if you hadn't stopped him... I just." Tears rolled down her face. "I hate him! I'll kill him I'll kill him myself! That bastard!" She shouted as she broke down.
I knew I couldn't do much so I did what I could to console her. I gave her a hug. "It's going to be ok Tari, I'll get us out of here I promised you guys that didn't I?" I said ash she leans into my embrace.
"And we'll kill him too."
——two months later——
It has been a few months since then but we finally arrived on an island were they apparently do slave trading.
I've also grown stronger physically because the pirates had been using us for manual labor so my constitution had gone up a few points.
Right now I was with the other kids unloading supplies from the ship. When the captain finally spoke to us.
"Well you damn brats were here, the place you'll make me a bunch of Berri! Try not to die too quickly, my friends need some good new meat." He said with a disgusting smile as he saw Yuta and Michael start shaking in terror. Later that night after the pirates weee asleep I checked my stats.

'I guess this is as good as it's going to get' I thought to myself. Then I used all of my free points. Adding three to constitution raising it to 7.6 and two to my devil fruit raising it to 5.1. Closing the window I looked at the sleeping forms of my fellow captives. I had given them hope to escape, I have to make sure it wasn't false hope.I woke them up and told them it was time. "C'mon guys tonight's the night." I whispered.
The others watched me in anticipation as I approached the bars of the cage. They were curious, I had never actually revealed the power of my devil fruit and they had been waiting in anticipation for two months. Grabbing hold of the bars I started to un-combine the molecules. The other three kids watched with hope written on their faces as the bars began to crumble. After I was sure that the hole in the bars was big enough for all of us I backed away and almost immediately fell to my knees. 'Damnit Even with the extra points it was still extremely exhausting.'
"Carter! Are you ok!?" Michael asked crouching down to check on me.
"Yea I'm ok." I said shakily standing up. "Cmon the pirates should be asleep, we have to go."
We began to creep quietly through the Hal's of the ship until we came to a door opening it we realized it was the crew's quarters.
We carefully crept through the rows of sleeping pirates until I saw who I had been looking for.
Gesturing to the others to stop I turned to them.
"Ok. if we want to escape our best chance is to get rid of our biggest obstacle. This bastard has a devil fruit that lets him freeze things so he can capture us like it's nothing." I whispered to my companions and pointed to the sleeping first mate.
I make eye contact with Tari and she gives me a small nod to continue.
"We need to get rid of him."
The other two's eyes widened when they realized what im meant.
"A-are you sure there is no other way?" Yuta asked clearly horrified by the idea of taking a life.
"We need to get out of here and that bastard is our main obstacle. If he catches us we are one hundred and ten percent fucked." I whispered back.
Yuta and Michael still seemed apprehensive but then Tari stepped forward. " I don't care if you guys can't handle killing this son of a bitch but I can and I want to be the one who does." She said with hatred clear in her voice.
Her statement honestly unnerved me for a second before I steeled myself. "Sure thing partner." I agreed. "Alright look for a weapon, a blade would be best." I told my companions and we began to search. Yuta eventually found a dagger in an empty hammock and shakily handed it to Tari. However she hesitated just before handing it over. "A-are you sure that there's no other way?" She pleaded one last time. I simply sighed and placed my hand on her shoulder.
"I'm sorry Yuta but this is our best chance of survival. This is the grand line, only the strongest can survive here. So please Yuta, Be strong." I say looking her dead in the eye.
She is silent for a moment before she hands the knife to Tari and walks away. Even if we had to kill him it didn't mean she had to be in the same room.
"Alright let's do this. "Tari said as she prepared to cut his throat.
'Shit!'
I dash over and stop her just before her blade hit his skin. She gave me a look of fury but befit she could ask why I had stopped her I spoke. "If you just cut his throat now he'll make so much noise that the whole crew will wake up." I explained in a whisper as realization dawned on her face.
I slowly maneuvered my hands and touched his mouth I created an l unbreakable bond between his teeth then another between his lips. I turned back to Tari and nodded. Stepping away and allowing the girl to get her revenge.
I saw her breathe deeply and all emotion left her face as quick as lightning the blade sliced through the pirates neck. His eyes burst open as he grasped his neck trying desperately to stop the bleeding. He tried to scream but with his mouth sealed shut and a hole in his windpipe he couldn't make a sound. He didn't last five minutes.
Walking out of the cabin we were greeted by Michael and Yuta. "So did you..?"
"Yes" Tari responded walking past Yuta.
I could see that Michel and Yuta still didn't approve, but they kept quiet and fallowed us. We split up once again to search for weapons. I arrived in the kitchen in Search of knives. Instead I found a blessing from God. Illuminated in the moonlight, on the counter was a devil fruit that radiated cold. "The cold-cold fruit. How lucky!"
I grabbed the fruit and dashed out to meet the others. "You guys find anything?" Michael asked sounding defeated.
"Nothing."
"No"
I reached them and they asked me the same question. "No but I found something better!" I said as I showed them the devil fruit. "It's the cold-cold fruit. It reincarnated into one of the fruit in the kitchen."
The moment I finished that sentence Tari snatched the fruit from my hands. "Can I...?" She asked.
"Yes Tari you can have it."
She took a bite and flinched. "Oh right I forgot to mention that they taste terrible." I admitted as Tari glared at me. "My mistake."
She swallowed the fruit and we disembarked the ship.
