Chapter 35: Health Rebalance

The next day early in the morning, I am resting my head on the desk, trying my hardest not to fall asleep as I arrive at school exhausted to death.

Four hours of sleep a night might be enough for many people to function properly, but as someone who considers sleeping as one of his main passions in life, four hours is nowhere near enough.

After Felicia ditched me last night, I spent some time playing around with Kingpin's men and had them chase me around town for half an hour before going back home to not risk running into her as I entered my apartment through the window I had left open earlier.

Getting home, I dived straight into bed, not even bothering to take off my costume first but waking up in the morning was still a pain. I had almost considered just skipping school for the day and sleeping, but I figured it wouldn't be the best look for me if I missed school the first day I started living alone.

There is also something else I'm curious about today, a message I got from the system when waking up. Apparently, there had been an update while I was asleep, bringing the system from version 0.3 to version 0.3.1.

This caught me by surprise since it has been less than a week since the previous update, but I checked it out nonetheless.

[Welcome to version 0.3.1 of the system! This update has added no new features. Rather, this update aims to do some rebalancing to make the experience more enjoyable.]

[Vitality - Each point of vitality now adds 25 to max health instead of the previous 10 and increases health regeneration to 2.5 health per hour for each vitality point instead of the previous 1.

PS: Increased Regeneration skill means health regeneration is 5 health per hour for each vitality point.]

[Health - The max health for everyone in the world has been changed]

[Mana Bolt - The Mana Bolt skill has been nerfed. The specifics can be seen below.]

------------------------------

[Mana Bolt - Active] (Level 26 - 22%)

[Cost - 50 mana] [Cooldown - 30 seconds]

Fire 2 magical bolts constructed from mana out of your hand dealing (INT x 0.4) damage to the target and other enemies close to the target.

------------------------------

And that's everything. Not a very big update, at least not compared to the ones that came before it.

I'm a bit upset about the huge nerf to the Mana Bolt skill, but even I have to admit that it was a bit too overpowered previously. Let's just hope I get something better from future classes to make up for it.

Or perhaps it's about time I go see the Ancient One and learn some proper magic? I'll put visiting the Sanctum in my timetable for the weekend.

The changes in health both to myself and others are more interesting, though. My max health is now 2,975, with the regeneration being 595 health per hour, making me a bit more comfortable taking hits in fights.

As for health rebalancing regarding other people, I have been using observe on everyone, I come across today, and on average, everybody has more health than before. The change isn't huge for most people, but for someone like Scott, who is in my class, his max health has more than tripled!

It does raise the question, though, don't these people notice when they suddenly get stronger? Like, wouldn't everybody in the world notice and make tons of noise about how they woke up one morning and felt different?

I lift my head up and turn to the girl sitting next to me. "Hey Gwen, I got a bit of an unusual question for ya."

Gwen, who currently seems busy doing something on her phone, doesn't even raise her eyes from the screen, only saying, "Shoot."

"Have you felt weird in any way today since waking up?" I ask

Hearing the question, she looks up from her phone and turns to me, "Weird?"

"Like, have you in any way felt stronger or healthier?"

She takes a moment to think before answering, "No, I don't think so, everything feels normal. Why do you ask?"

"No reason, just forget I asked," I say and turn to the other side to look out the window.

Her health has nearly doubled with this update, but nothing feels out of the norm for her. I wonder how the system does that.

Not even a minute later, as I try my best not to fall asleep while looking out the window, Gwen hits me with a question of her own. "Hey Peter, I'm looking at the news right now, and it appears as if a new, female, Black Cat, has started operating in New York. Not only that but she was photographed running together with Spiderman last night. What do you think about that?"

Damn, we were together for only a little time while escaping from Kingpin's thugs, yet people already managed to get pictures of us together? Only New Yorkers would be crazy enough to hear gunshots and immediately go towards it with their cameras out!

I turn to her only to be met with a face that is somewhere between a smile and a glare.

"Who are you to be policing who Spiderman can hang out with?"

I'm not dense enough to not realize she likes me, but that doesn't mean she can get mad at me just because I associated with other women, especially as Spiderman. Better shut that down before she becomes some sort of a yandere…

Hearing me, she closes her eyes for a moment in thought before giving a quiet cough. "Right… sorry about that."

"Don't worry about it." I dismiss it with a wave. "I believe Spiderman might have just ran into her on the streets and decided to follow her before getting into some trouble."

She nods. "Makes sense, I guess Spiderman would want to make sure that a new villain hasn't popped up out of nowhere."

"If you want to hear my full in-depth analysis, then I can tell you about it later," I suggest, and she agrees. The classroom with lots of other people around probably isn't the best place to discuss Spiderman things and tell her that the new Black Cat is actually my neighbor.

Soon after, the teacher enters the room to begin the lesson, and I bring out a new stack of books on coding.

As much as I want to just take a nap right now, I need to level up this particular skill as much as possible whenever I can right now. After all, I want to try my hand at making an AI like Jarvis sometime soon.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: I looked into a bunch of other gamer novels to see if I could figure out how they calculated their damage done and the health of characters and came to the conclusion that everyone picks numbers out of their ass. They just pick these numbers better than me.

Also, the reason there weren't any chapters for a few days is because I played some Crusader kings 3 and then got in the mood to play a bunch of other paradox games, so… all my free time was gone before I knew it.
