Chapter 48: Reinforcement

The Man:

"I kill you," Flash screams, running toward me as I reload my shotgun. Just as I pump it, I duck down and knock out his knees. Flying through the air for a bit before falling down, I start to fire a bunch of rounds into the air.

"Quickly," Superman yells, aiming his yellow ring at me. "Get him before he can escape."

Firing a beam at me, I roll out of the way and aim my shotgun at him. Squeezing the trigger, the round hit Superman right in his chest.

"You're going to need more than that to take me down," he says, aiming his ring at me again.

"I know," I reply, reaching into my pocket for more rounds. "But this isn't to take you down. It to blind you and everyone else in here."

On cue, the smoke round that I fired all over set off and start to unleash clouds of thick, grey, non-lethal smoke. The smoke quickly blankets the whole base and before anyone else can fire, we're all blindly wandering around.

"I can't see," a soldier says, "I can't see. Can anyone see?"

"No," another soldier replies, "This smoke is too thick."

"No one shoot," a third soldier orders. "No one shoot. Friendly fire. Friendly fire."

"Where are you," Flash cries, "Where the hell are you, you son of a bitch? How could you do it? How could you kill Iris?"

As I drop to my knee, I slam my shotgun down on the ground and pull from my pocket a teleporter. Moving as fast as I can, I start to set it up.

"I have to get everyone out of here now," I think, only seconds later hearing the wind. "The portal had to be big enough for everyone to go through at once. Come on. Come on."

Adjusting the final numbers and resetting the cover, I cover my face with my arm in time to block the incoming smoke. Blowing away all the smoke from before, Superman immediately sees me.

"You're not getting away this time," he screams, rocketing to me. His arms stretch out, his eyes red, and his ring shining like the freaking sun, I slam the teleporter on the ground and activate it. With only a milli-second left, I grab my shotgun and hold it between Superman and myself.

Supergirl:

"No," I think, watching as my cousin slams into The Man and the two of them fly through a bunch of soldiers and right into a wall. Disappearing into the wall, I'm about to fly over to help but before I can, a massive portal like the one we left through opens beneath our feet. Without warning, we all fall right through.

The Man:

Superman and I face to face, we toss and turn as he tries to pull the shotgun from my hands. I hear a slight scream and turn around to see Kara and the rest of the Insurgency fall through the portal. The portal closing back up, the teleporter flips in the air before landing back on the ground.

"Here's my chance," I say, turning back to old flyboy. His eyes turning red, dual laser beams then firing out. Ducking out of the way before they can hit me, I now have to struggle to keep my weapon while trying not to get cut in half.

"I have to time this right."

Ducking once again, the tips of my hair smoking, I headbutt Superman and knock him back a little. Recovering fast, he uses his laser visions but having turn just in time, he accidentally destroys the teleporter before any soldiers could grab it.

"Sorry," I say, the laser disappearing and Superman's eyes widening at the destroyed teleporter. "But I really do hate uninvited guests."

Punching me and knocking me back, he crushes my shotgun and tosses it to the ground.

"You're surrounded," he says, slowly flying into the air. "And you are not leaving this place alive."

All the regimes and all soldiers in the base then advance toward me, their weapons and their powers more than ready.

I steady myself, my foot sliding across the ground and making an X with my arms.

Kara:

"Ouch," I say, pushing myself up while rubbing my head. "What just happened? Where are we?"

"You're back here," Dr. Crane answers, coming up to me with some dressing and ice packs.

Looking back, I see familiar walls and cabinets, and especially some very familiar incubators.

"Scarecrow," Flash screams once he realizes where we are. Running to him, he grabs Dr. Crane by his neck collar and rams him into the wall. "Why are we here? Why did you bring us back here?"

Dr. Crane's feet shake as Flash raises him higher along the wall.

"I didn't bring you here," Dr. Crane struggles to say as Flash wraps his hands around his throat.

"And why should I believe you?"

"Because he's telling the truth," Iris answers, coming in between the two. She pushes Flash away and helps Dr. Crane after he fell to the floor, gasping for air.

"Iris," Flash says, slamming his hands against his head. "What? What? What the hell is going on here?"

"I can answer that," Iris says, getting up and turning to face us. "The man, the same one that saved all of you just now, saved me."

Iris West:

As I hear the sound of tires screeching to a stop, I peek out my windows and see a bunch of One Earth jeeps just outside. Within only seconds, a whole squadron of One Earth soldiers are in my front yard, their guns drawn and ready to move.

Prepare for this, I run from the window to the hallway's closet. Opening it, I grab the suitcase and carry it out. I open my suitcase and quickly start to sort everything out. Going through the wads of cash and a few items of clothing, I find what I'm looking for.

I grab the clip and place it in the pistol. Closing my suitcase again, I head for the backdoor when all of a sudden, it bursts open, pieces of it hitting and knocking me down.

Screaming as I fall onto the floor, I look up to see Firefly walks up, his wrist-mounted flame-thrower aims at me.

"Hello Ms. West," he says, stepping toward me. "Are you going somewhere? Well, I'm sorry but I think you're going to have to change your plan."

Thinking fast, I kick my suitcase and it slides into Firefly's feet, tripping him a little. While he regains his footing, I push myself up and sprint for the front door. However, it's only when I grab the handle that it almost burst open, and again, knocks me to the floor.

Pulling the entire door off its hinges, Bane tosses it aside and lowers his head as he enters my house.

Crawling away, I quickly push myself up and reach for the pistol in my back pocket.

"Head-up," someone screams, all three of us looking up my stairs as someone I didn't know suddenly jumps from them.

One hand on the railing and the other hand presses against the wall, he swings his feet into the air and slams them into Bane's head. Screaming as he flips over my sofa, Firefly himself then screams.

"You!"

"Hello," he says, pulling a knife from his jacket and tossing it. The knife hits Firefly's fire-throwing and the whole thing turns off.

"Hey, what did you do?"

Looking away, he tries to fix his weapon but with his focus on something else, the man runs right up to him. Kicking out his leg, he pushes Firefly to the ground before punching his head.

Now, with the two down, I can see the man without distraction. He is a tall man, with pitch-black hair and in what looks like the kind of jacket fishermen would wear.

"Are you okay," he asks, turning to look at me.

Pulling out my pistol, I aim it at the man's head.

"Who are you," I ask, my fingers on the trigger.

"Watch out," he says, moving so fast I couldn't even squeeze the trigger before he grabs the gun and moves it out of the way. Now grabbing me, he pushes me out of the way before dropping to the ground himself.

A hailstorm of bullets then pour down on us, gunshots thundering as all my windows shatter and my walls are destroyed. Hiding in a hallway, I see the man crawling toward where my front door was. Peeking out, he sees lines of troopers firing non-stop.

"They must have heard what happened," I think, seeing the two unconscious regimes. "What am I going to do? I can't leave with all these soldiers gunning down my house."

As I think of what I could do next, I see the man still near the front door. Reaching into one of his many pockets, he pulls something out and tosses it.
