Chapter 185: Path to Chiefdom V

My blade is able to shred easily through his lower abdomen but every time I try to go for his heart my blade gets caught on his ribs.

My third attempt to stab his heart ended with Wru rolling us over, trying to pin me beneath him, forcing me to leave my blade embedded in his shoulder as I push myself back to avoid being crushed beneath him.

Wru begins to curl in on himself to protect his vital organs while trying to get a moment of peace in order to get back on his feet.

But I'm not planning on letting him have the chance.

I slam my knee hard into his face where I feel his nose give and crack beneath the force of my blow as a wave of blood gushes from his now broken nose painting the ground in a vibrant crimson.

Disorienting Wru even further I begin pouring a torrent of flames into his wounded face, forcing him to lift his arms up so he can defend himself from my endless attacks.

With his sides wide open, I move to flank him and summon an ice spear that impaled itself deep in his liver, pretty much destroying his entire lower abdomen after the previous attack with my sword.

Wru is left holding the freezing ice spear against his side as it's frosty after effects are now the only thing keeping the rest of his guts from spilling out onto the ground.

I yank my sword from Wru's shoulder and prepare to bring it down on his exposed neck when he bellows with a deep dejected voice, {I yield! I have failed the Earth-Father's challenge...}

This declaration halts my blade as I'm left with a dilemma... Kill the giant or spare him...

'Maybe... This could work?' I think to myself as I bring my sword back and sheathe it before walking over to where Wru's war hammer had fallen during our fight.

I heft it onto my shoulder before pulling out several healing potions and even a regeneration potion that I splash on to Wru's wounds that slowly begin to mend untill he releases his sides, no longer afraid they will spill out.

However, Gringar, Wru, and the rest of the giants look at me with deep confusion.

{You... You spare me, Tarruk? But what of your quest from your god?} Wru asks in confusion as he leans back, catching his breath from our fight, and letting his wounds slowly heal.

"Ha! What do you mean? I've already accomplished my task." I tell the group with a sly smile as I look at Malacath's statue as I notice its ember eyes burning even brighter as if trying to sear into my very soul, but I stand firm.

"What are you talking about? Don't you have to kill this giant?" Gringar asks me, just as confused as Wru.

I hold the hammer up proudly, in the air before slamming its head into the dirt as Wru had done before the start of our fight as I prepare to deliver my response to my enraptured audience, Deadric and otherwise.

"When did I ever say I was going to kill you, Chief Wru?" I say with a devilish grin, pulling down my face covering.

{But, you said-} Wru tries to protest but I hold my hand up to silence him.

"I said, I need this hammer as tribute and to cleanse this holy place of your presence... I have defeated you and now you have two choices... Serve your new Chief or... Die..." I say, glaring into the eyes of all the giants.

With the statue of Malacath at my back, and the glowing amber at the edge of my eyes matching the fires raging within the statue, I seem to radiate the power of Malacath himself, causing the giants to lower their heads instinctively, but they refrain from falling to their knees as they look to Wru who is still sitting on the ground, seemingly deep in thought.

After several long moments, Wru painfully moves from sitting on his ass, to resting his weight on his knees.

{The Earth-Father placed you as my challenge and it seems I still have much to learn before I am to be a true leader... Please guide us... Chief Tarruk...} Wru says with a tone of humility that wasn't there before our fight, as the rest of the giants fall to their knees and begin to chant.

{Chief Tarruk! Chief Tarruk! Chief Tarruk!} Their voices creating a deafening chorus that is only silenced be deep, demonic laughter that emeges from Malacath's statue as it seems to come alive, stopping the world around me.

The stone blade he wields swings down towards me before stopping just shy of crushing my skull.

"So, Tarruk... Have I fulfilled our bargain?" The statue asks me, leaving me confused before a ghostly energy walks out of me and I see a phantom of myself emerge besides me.

The blade follows it as it walks forward and kneels at the base of the statue.

"Yes... I may not like him... But he has proven he can do what I could not... It is time for me to go..." The ghostly me, who I believe was my original body's owner says before turning back to me.

"You, you fight like a human and sneak like a flea ridden Khajiit... But, you have a chance to slay the enemy I never could... Defeat the Thalmor, so that I may finally rest in peace." Udan Gora tells me before Malacath brings his sword down, dispelling the ghost into a fine mist that is then absorbed into the statue before it speaks.

"Welcome home, little brother... And you..." The stone Malacath says, almost tenderly, before turning his blade to me, the ferocity returning tenfold.

"Yes?... Lord Malacath?" I say, somewhat reeling from what's happening.

"I did not expect a human soul from another plane to receive their summons... And you lie and steal too much to be a proper orc... But you have potential... Continue to not disappoint me and I may recognize you as worthy of being my brother... Now... Return!" The statue speaks, slowly returning to its original position before issuing its final order allowing the world to return to normal as I begin to hear the giants shouting my name once more.
