Chapter 22: The Devil awaits for him...

The shiny silver-gold fruit was hanging, only a few meters away from his reach: and in spite of extending his arms as far as he could, Veru couldn't pluck it; his hands felt short for the task.

Not being able to quench his hunger and with a grumbling stomach, he was no longer rational, and trusting his instincts, he leaped towards the fruit.

His body moved like a kite in the midair, as it straight went towards the fruit, and he plucked it in the midair, but the problem came next.

He was no bird, nor did he have any superpowers, which led to him falling down straight to the ground.

Luckily, due to his motion, he fell into the pool, which did save him from critical injuries, but since he had no time to react, the moment he collided with the water, the water acted much like a solid wall, jerking his entire body.

Splash…

The shockwave ran through his entire body. Though he did try to dive into the water, reducing the contact area, due to the sudden circumstance, he wasn't able to reduce it by much, and thus the shockwave running through his body.

"Ouch!"

Veru emerged from the water, as he rubbed his back. The fruit still was in his hands. "I am not going to try that ever again, " he looked at the silver-gold fruit.

It gave a unique radiance when the sunlight fell on it, tempting the green-haired boy to eat it with little haste.

"Ah…"

He opened his mouth, he opened it wide to munch a chunky portion of the fruit, but he couldn't taste it.

Despite biting the fruit with all his jaw power, he couldn't make a single mark onto it.

"It is really hard, " Veru mumbled to himself, as he looked at the fruit with a smirk.

'Maybe it is just a shell?' He questioned himself, as his olive eyes shone finding some clean rocks near the pool.

He picked two of them and placed the fruit in between, and started banging it, hoping the shell would break, and he finally would be able to eat the fruit he had been wanting too.

Rustle…

Hustle…

Bustle…

The leaves shook. The fallen twigs lying on the ground broke, as the group of humans made its way through it.

With a gloomy, grim man on the front, the group was made mostly of the researchers and the crewmates.

Thime was too in the group, following the order to match straight into the forest.

Unlike the others, Thime was reluctant to follow the orders, as no one amongst them knew what resided in the forests, and shouldn't they be searching for others. However, he couldn't question the man as he very well knew.

'He is holding them together,'

Though he may not agree with his methods, Thime wasn't dumb to break it question the leader, which might lead to the dissolution of the group.

Thime and the group continued to march inside the forest, with every passing second the forest free darker and became thicker than before.

'Something is off, ' his instincts warned him. He couldn't help but feel strange and threatened with every step closer they took into the forest.

'Am I being too paranoid?' He posed a question to his own self, trying to deny the fact that he was feeling threatened.

'I am being paranoid, just what could have gone wrong?'

Thime proceeded with his march, calming his senses down.

'Where is everyone?'

The ebony hair tangled in the tiny grains of sand, and the black eyes revealed themselves to the blue sky as the girl wearing a coat, with the name Yukima on it woke up.

'What happened?'

She got up quickly and recalled the events.

'We met a storm, and our ship got sabotaged, resulting in me ending here,'

Yukima dusted her coat and removed the numerous tiny grains sticking in her hair.

'Where is everybody?'

She looked at her surroundings. She stood near the shore, with the sea on one side, and a thick lush green forest on the other.

'Did they go into the forest?'

She looked at the empty shore that ran long across the sea. 'I shouldn't go in there without any preparations. What kind of animals are lurking in there, waiting for their prey to enter their territory?'

Yukima sighed as she shook her thoughts off her mind, and walked through the shore.

'Maybe there are people on this island? Looking at the calm sea, there must be at least one or two ships passing around. I could ask them for rescue.'

Yukima clenched her fists, as with her gaze fixed on the horizon, she marched through the seashore.

"Abel"

A red-haired man called out the twin with a sulking face. His golden eyes sparkled as he looked at the sky. It looked like he was watching someone and not the skies.

"Yes, Magnus" greeted one of the twins.

"Call Darkness, I want to meet her."

Abel bowed his head and went inside the rift that appeared out of nowhere, and vanished as soon as he entered through it.

"I will be waiting for him here. Let's see how well he does." He smirked.
