Chapter 1: The New Kid

Jason has always been a loner. It's not really his fault, it's just that people like to avoid him. Okay maybe it is a little bit his fault, but who can blame him for being so guarded. Especially since when he wasn't only bad things happened. Apparently the entire student body of mauticus highschool can blame him.

'Great first day of senior year and it's another day of being alone' Jason thought to himself as he sat up. His highschool was a boarding school in the literal middle of nowhere. They also have a roommate system but because there was an odd number of boys in his class, Jason was always able to dorm alone. Apparently he has forgotten that that all changed this year because of the new transfer student, also his new roommate.

Pushing back the covers, Jason swung his legs over the edge of the bed before planting then firmly on the ground and walking over to his wardrobe. Opening the top drawer he picked out a pair of jeans, then he grabbed his socks and underwear, before heading over to the closet and grabbing a plain red T-shirt. Walking back to the bed where he left the rest of his stuff, Jason started changing.

When Jason had just put on his underwear the door opened and a boy he didn't recognize walked in. Jason looked up at him "What the fuck man?, I'm changing! Who even are you?". The boy automatically looked away a light blush creeping on his face. "I-I'm sorry. I'm Atticus, I just transfered here and I'm your new roommate.". They stood there in an awkward silence broken when Jason said, "OK I'm done changing you can open your eyes now.".

Atticus took a couple steps further inside the room and opened his eyes and looked at Jason. Jason had slightly tanned skin, and his muscles where toned from all the years that he spent skiing in the mountains on their schools yearly ski trip after the winter break. His hair was dark brown, and it was longer than most dudes hair. the most breathtaking part about Jason though are his Light pale blue eyes that almost seem to shine.

Atticus on the other hand was short, in comparison to Jason who was 6'1, seeing as he was only 5'8. His hair was a sky blue, and it was cut close to his scalp. He had irregular purple eyes, which Jason later learned where contacts, His actuall eye color was black. he was darker skinned, an Asian-American. He was wearing a t shirt that matched the color of his hair with an open button up covered in flowers like a jacket, and shorts. He was also wearing Flip-Flops.

"where'd you come from? Hawaii?" Jason asked rolling his eyes and filling his voice with sarcasm. "How'd you know?" Atticus asked, not hearing the sarcasm. 'The innocence on this dude' Jason couldn't help but think. Then Atticus walked all the way in and went to the bed on the other side of the room that had stayed untouched for the four years that Jason had been there.

Jason rolled his eyes " you can do that later. we have class soon and you probably don't want to miss breakfast." and with that Jason walked out of the room. 'rude' Atticus pouted, 'but I guess he's right. if I had done this now I probably would have had to miss breakfast. I'll have to thank him later.' So Atticus rushed out of the room running after his new roommate.

An out of breath Atticus appeared in the cafeteria, to see very few students there. He quickly checked the clock and saw that there was still 3 hours before school started. Atticus huffed out and scanned the Cafe for his roommate. Finally he spotted him sitting at a table alone in the corner, a flickering light above his head. Atticus marched over and plopped down in the seat next to Jason. "I'm mad at you." he huffed, crossing his arms and pouting "yeah so?" Jason asked then mumbled "isn't everyone?".

"Hey why are you so grumpy?" Atticus asked looking at Jason. Then Atticus did something that Jason didn't expect, he reached out, took Jason by rhe corner of his mouth and made his mouth form a smile. "Let's put that frown upside down!" Atticus said with a huge smile on his face. Right at that moment the sun came into view in the window behind Atticus's head and bathed him in light. Jason just rolled his eyes and slapped away Atticus hands from his mouth. "don't you have anywhere else to go sit?" Jason grumbled turning back to his sad looking oatmeal.

"well I could go sit over there but then you'd be alone." "I'm fine, go sit over there like you want to. you don't have to sit next to me" Jason told him around his oatmeal. "No" Atticus responded, "and why not?" Jason asked. "well I need to get to know you better since we're going to be spending every night of the next year in the same room." Atticus explained. "fine" Jason grunted and put another spoonful of oatmeal in his mouth.

After about 15 minutes of awkward silence while Jason was eating his oatmeal, a group walked up to the table. the dud in the middle talked first "hey your the new kid right? I'm Nikolai what's your name?" "Atticus" responded Atticus. "well why don't you ditch this loner jackass" Nikolai gave a hateful look towards Jason "and come sit with us?" he looked back to Atticus, a cunning smile already on his face. Atticus glanced toward Jason, and the responded "No, I'm staying right here." and to mark his point Atticus put all his weight into his chair and scooted ever so slightly towards Jason. Nikolai only shrugged "Fine if that's what you want, but don't come crying to me when he hurts your feelings" and with that Nikolai and his group walked away.

As soon as they where out of earshot Atticus turned to Jason "who where they, they weren't very nice". Jason only grunted in response "that was Nikolai, he told you his name." Atticus playfully punched Jason's shoulder "you know that not what I meant".

"Fine" Jason started "they were my friends until I somehow made them angry and they've hated me ever since. Apparently I'm to difficult to be friends with. since then they spread rumors about me around the whole school, and everyone believes them. So now I'm the loner kid. It doesn't really bother me anymore."

Before he knew what was happening Jason felt a pair of arms wrap around him. he looked to the side to see Atticus hugging him. He shrugged off Atticus "hey its fine, like I said, it doesn't really bother me anymore." "ok if your sure, then I guess it's ok."

Atticus looked a little said so Jason patted him on the head. "don't be sad. if your sad then you will get tears all in your food" Jason consoled trying to be comforting but failing miserably. Atticus just wiped off his eyes, and they sat there eating breakfast for the rest of the 2 and a half hours before they had to head to class.
