Chapter 2: Samantha
"Are you really ok?" My brother asked me for the nth time.
"I think so" I said and smiled at him. I'm going to be ok.
"You don't seem ok" Here we go again. Meet my overprotective and caring brother, Chadd.
"It's my first time in this building and my first day" I said while watching other students walking and laughing with their friends.
"This building is for College only. Everyone in the same year as you are also first day today" I pouted. I know that "Hey" he raised my chin and our eyes met "I'm here" he smiled "If something happened you can call me, I will come to you right away, no matter what"
"I'm going" I walked with my head down. I have a feeling that my brother staring at me.
I was amazed when I step inside. It's like a mansion not a school. The first floor have transparent glass. I can see the canteen. The whole floor is canteen with large bulletin board in the middle. I wanted until the students in front of me leave, so I can see what section I am.
Can we buy something before the break time? Their so many students inside. I feel hungry. I can see from here the cookies and cream ice cream. Should I buy one?
I entered the canteen and went straight to the counter to buy my favorite ice cream. My brother mentioned earlier that there are two types of cards to used for buying foods or drinks here. The color black is unlimited and the gray is for discount. I have black card so can I buy all of their ice cream? Just kidding. I can't do that, my brother will be mad at me.
I'm eating my ice cream while walking in the hallway. This school building really looks like a hotel or a mansion for me. There is a circle shape of stair left and right to go up.
When my feet reach the second floor, I was amazed for the nth time. This floor is divided into three. There is an elevator in the left, transparent glass library in the middle and an elevator again on the right side. I go for the right side elevator. I can see the students busy inside, the library has a transparent glass, so I can see them inside. The elevator can ride 45-50 people with the maximum 2,250 kg, I think this elevator have a same specs like on the left side.
I click the 17th floor, where my room is. This building have 30 floors with rooftop. I hope the rooftop have benches, so I can go there to kill some time. I love heights, quiet place and scenery to focus my mind to relax.
I guess half of the students in the elevator with me are on the 17th floor. I'm not the only one out of the elevator when the door opened but why they didn't click the 17th floor.
Hmm. Are they really busy talking at each other? Chadd said that all of us are first time here but why they have a friend already. Are they become friend in junior high, and they go in the same university?
I sigh. Inhale and exhale. This is not the time Audrey for that. Why are you bothering with the problems of other people. Just focus, ok? Its first day of school. Relax. Focus.
I went inside my room. We already in half here. I choose the sit in the 3rd row aisle. I sat there and got my phone from my bag. I have 5 messages in notification. I finish my ice cream first and went in the back, my guess is right. We have garbage bin in the back.
When I come back to my seat. I open my phone and I saw my brother name. Chadd message me.
"Is this seat available?" I look up and I saw a beautiful girl standing in front of me.
"Yes" I smiled back.
"Can I sat next to you?" She smiled at me.
I nodded at her "Sure" and smile
"By the way, My name is Samantha, Sam for short" She offered her hand.
"I'm Audrey, Rey for short" I accept her hand "Nice to meet you"
"You too. Thank you for letting me seat here. I'm a transferee to this school. I don't have any friend" I smiled at her.
"No, problem" I lean my back at my chair before looking at her "I don't have a friend either and a transferee too"
"Really?"
I nodded. "Why did you transfer?" I asked her.
"To find someone" I don't know what to say, so I just stared at her, waiting her to say it was a joke "You look confused" I nodded "Actually he is my ex-boyfriend, he left me because of someone else that he met in Canada"
"You are from Canada?" I asked.
"Yup" She nodded.
"Same" we stared at each other for a second and giggle
"You, why did you transfer?" She asked me.
"I decide to stay here for good. So I transfer here. This school is the nearest school for us and my brother here too"
She nodded and smiled widely "Can we become friend?"
"Sure" without thinking of it, I said this word. She looks kind and sweet.
We talk for a couple of minutes before our first subject teacher or our professor come in. We voluntarily fell silent when we saw him enter our classroom.
Samantha poke me. She smiles awkwardly when I look at her and point our professor with his mouth. I think I can understand what her want to say. I'm scared too. Our professor looks strict. He didn't even stare at us when he entered our room.
The first 2 subject done and its break time. We don't really do anything we just laugh and introduce ourself. I feel nervous but I really want to stand in front of people. I just don't want me to feel alone but I have Samantha now so all my worries faded.
"Lets go down, I'm hungry"
"Wait a second. Let me fix my things" I said. She nodded.
We went out the door together. I bought my phone with me and wallet. I open my phone and I have 50 messages in my notification. I paused for a second. Sam takes a few steps back.
"What's wrong?"
"I forgot to answer my brother" I show her my phone.
"Wow. 50 messages. Does he know you are at school?"
I nodded "Yeah, but he is a sweet and overprotecting brother. That's why some people think that we are a couple"
"Are you the only girl?"
"Yes"
"Do you still have your dad?"
"No, my father died 2 years ago"
"That's why" She sighed before looking at me "Big brother always taking care of his little sister if they father died. That's my mother said to me when I got so irritated when my brother does that too, but he died because of me"
"I'm sorry" I hug her and tap her back.
We heard her tummy. We laugh and walk together again to buy our food. She is starving. I message my brother when we are in the elevator. I explained myself. Sam teasing me for being a good little sister.
And my first day of this school become better because I have Sam. I'm glad, I meet her. I don't regret letting her become my friend. Never.
