Chapter 1: Chapter one

The funny thing about life is that it's unexpected.

Funny for someone who life wasn't making fun of at the time.

And right now, one young couple was experiencing just how unexpected life could be.

They were going to have a child... And they were unprepared.

The man, Paul, panicked, this wasn't what he was expecting, but he couldn't leave the child alone, he was the father and he would be damned if the child grew up with anything less than a full family.

So, he took responsibility and married the woman, Zenith.

Their friends understood the situation, but they weren't happy. Without their healer and leader, the group immediately fell apart.

The group disbanding was still unknown to the couple as Paul pulled some strings to get a position of guarding a village known as "Buena village", he was stationed as a knight there.

Even if the two were young, they were ready to take care of the child when he or she came into this world.

And like that, a few months later a boy named Gray grayrat was born.

For some reason, Paul was very proud that he came up with the name.

The child... Didn't seem amused.

He wasn't even crying but he was staring at the two with half-lidded eyes. That was until the man smartened up and cleaned the baby.

"Dear, let me hold the child."

Nodding, the man handed over the child to his wife.

The small child looked at the two with wide, green eyes full of curiosity and reached out to them before stopping when his hand came into his field of view.

The two chuckled at the child's expression, the little guy was stunned to see his own hand.

"Isn't he adorable?"

Paul nodded, he was indeed adorable.

Finally, he opened his mouth and let out a cry.

___

Zenith was feeling fantastic, she had just given birth to a healthy child, who she was currently cuddling.

"Whose my little boy? You are!"

The tickled him and he wiggled his arms, looking at her with raised eyebrows.

Knowing his sensitive spots after a few weeks she targeted them, he would always wiggle when he did so but he didn't laugh.

She pouted, it was like a challenge to get him to produce a sound, but he would always exclaim when he hit paul with his little hands when her husband tried to cheer him up.

The older man would sulk and hug her for comfort but it was too funny to watch.

Sometimes the baby would huff and look at paul with a flabbergasted expression like he was amazed that a man could act this way.

"I'm home!"

Parking up, she gingerly picked up Gray and held him close to her chest as she walked out of the baby's room, walked out to the living room, and saw paul, who started taking off his armor.

He looked tired, but his face brightened up as soon as he saw her and gray.

Surprising both of them, Gray raised his hands toward the older man, his face still impassive.

Despite this, paul brightened up even more, his exhaustion seemingly forgotten as he walked over and took the child off her hands, still smiling.

"Look at you, little guy! You're growing every day! And soon enough, you will be stronger than your old man, won't you?"

Gray was held up high as paul spun a little.

The child raised his arms up like he was flying and let out a sound of... Excitement?

"Ah."

She giggled, it was hilarious, the complete deadpan the child held while trying to act like he was having fun was too amusing.

She noticed a small smile on her son's lips, though.

As warmth spread through her body, Gray puked on Paul.

"Ugh, Gray! No! Some of it got in my mouth!"

She laughed, yeah, this was hilarious. As Paul spit out whatever Gray ate, he put the child on the desk and he still had that smile on his face, watching his father clean himself up.

Patting him on the head, she went to grab her husband a wet towel.

___

Paul was happy. When he was younger, he always thought that marrying was something he wouldn't do in a long time.

But now, ever since he left his family on a sour note, he always thought that it would be tiresome and he wanted to enjoy his youth, but it was nice.

Zenith was a lovely woman, a good wife, and a good mother.

And Gray, that little shit, if somebody hurt him he didn't care if it was one of the world powers, their heads would roll.

The little guy was so adorable he sometimes questioned if this was really happening.

He had a son, and he was growing up day by day.

He may act annoyed whenever Gray smacked him... Or even puked on him... Okay, he may be annoyed at the puking but when he spotted the smile on his face, he was glad to put up the act.

He loved the little guy, and he could see that he took after her mother in appearance and he was okay with that, he could see some aspects of himself in his facial features that would develop when he grew up.

He hoped that the kid would end up with his mother's attitude though, Paul... Wasn't the best role model himself.

He wanted Gray to be kind and caring but strong and to have a backbone.

If it came down to it, he should be able to defend himself, no, Gray was his son, and he should be able to destroy his opponents if it was necessary.

He would teach him everything he knew, he would tell him tales about his time adventuring and pass the boy his knowledge about sportsmanship... As soon as he could walk... Maybe a bit later if Zenith was okay with it.
