Chapter 43: Regressor

My name is Sung gon-ill. I was born in the prominent gon-ill family which is one of the richest families in Korea, however I had one problem. I was painfully weak. My Brothers who were all a year younger than me had surpassed me in almost every other aspect: popularity, money, and even power, I hadn't even inherited an Innate technique! Because of my weakness I was despised among my family, the only reason they hadn't kicked me out was because I was their first born son.

Nonetheless I was enrolled in a school for awakened to help cultivate my abilities but even that didn't help, for 5 years I was stuck at the level of a 1 Star so I was considered the failure of my family. Eventually when I turned 23, I was kicked out of the family household and was forced onto the streets. I could only work at normal jobs and struggled to get by with my increasing debt.

Then one day I was suddenly assassinated by people hired by the family. Their reasoning was that just my heritage was enough of a threat to my other brothers so they had me killed.

And that is how I died at the age of 25, homeless as well as stuck with mountains of debt.

But instead of landing in heaven or hell, I had found myself in the body of me during my 15th birthday. That was when I discovered my Innate Technique, Regression.

Every time I died, I could travel back in time to my 15th birthday, and on top of that, my world had become that of a game. Levels, Skills, Dungeons everything about my world had completely changed. In one timeline I had become the King of the world and also took revenge against my family. In another, I had become an immortal God of battle, that surpassed even the likes of Gojo Owari himself. But among all those timelines there was one person that I was never able to beat during this tournament. Ling Haoran.

The first time I entered the cursed battle tournament, his team had completely dominated, all of the games. In my third attempt, I travelled around Korea and hand-picked only the best of the best awakened of that generation, and even then we still lost. By my tenth attempt, I even tried to cheat against him which allowed Korea to beat China by a single point but every time I fought against him I still lost.

By the 110th attempt, I completely gave up on strategy as well as teammates so I decided to spend all my time in dungeons, and levelling up. But even then I still lost.

If training couldn't beat then I would perform trial and error. Every time I fought him I would use my perfect memory-recalling skill, to memorize every single one of his movements and devise perfect counters to them. By my 998th attempt, I had almost beaten him by just a hair inch. I was so pissed that I Killed myself so that I could fight him as soon as possible on the 999th attempt but for some reason this timeline was different.

There were people that I had never seen before, especially on that Japanese team. who weren't even supposed to participate this year! People who hadn't participated before were suddenly appearing from out of nowhere. The one existence that drove me especially mad however was that Saigo Akumu. He was the one existence that wasn't supposed to exist at all, he was the root anomaly who had caused this whole issue that I am now facing. He is the sole reason that almost 1 thousand years' worth of hard work was now being dismantled.

Haoran swung his staff against, Sung Gon-ills' skull, instantly destroying his helmet while fracturing his skull. As he tried to fight back he was quickly punished with a hit in the temple.

Haoran shouted, "Extend, Ruyi Jingu Bang" the staff grew in length, pushing sung all the way back into the arenas walls before shrinking back into its normal size.

"SKILL: BOOST OF HERMES!", Sung shouted. He jumped up an incredible height that went far above the physical arena, as he prepared to unleash a rain of arrows from his bow, Haoran had quickly flew behind him while riding what appeared to be a pure white cloud.

He charged his staff with cursed energy while telling him, "The way you had been fighting till now was as if you had memorized the moments of everyone and everything. But something has changed now hasn't it? You cant foresee the moves of anyone stronger than you right?"

As he tapped his staff against his back he told the opponent, "Still you were quite strong I will admit. I only use this move against warriors that I respect, so savour it."

"Imperial pole art: Heavenly Dragon."

Gold-cursed energy began to emerge from his pole in the shape of a dragon. It devoured Sung gon-ill before nose-diving towards the earth at speeds that rivalled a military fighter jet. As it crashed into the centre of the arena, the explosion it caused released a bright light that blinded everyone.

As the light faded the only thing that remained was a giant crater in the floor that contained the unconscious body, of Sung gon-ill.

Frosty Whipp announced over the microphone, "It appears that is the end of the match??? This was an overwhelming victory for china's team Ling Haoran."

As Haoran slowly flew back down from the sky, his cloud, eventually vanished into thin air. The audience began to slowly clap for him, not out of fear but from shock and respect. This was the first time since Gojo Owari, that a fight had been so one sided.

Later that day in the Cellar

The group of 5 had reunited for the last time, in that place. They had come to inform him of the developments on the outisde. Akumu shouted in surprise,

"He beat him in four hits???"

They were quite perplexed by the situation, this was without a doubt going to be the strongest opponent that Akumu had faced so far. They had assessed his strength to be far above Mozus'.

Akumu thought about it for a long while, "I don't think I could beat him. But that doesn't mean I wont put up a fight."

Meanwhile In the Japanese teams lounge

A slim black radio was sat on the table, the whole Chinese team surrounded it, even including their teacher Pao Guang who stood close by. As White noise echoed through the room, it slowly decreased until the voice of a single man could be heard. This was the Voice Chinas current emperor, and he was pissed.

"What the Fuck have I just watched in the last 2 Weeks? You four were meant to be the future elites of this empire but how could you lose to that Japanese trash?"

The four other team members looked mortified, they knew since the second they lost their fights their fates had been sealed.

"And you especially Xi Qiang. When you pulled that stunt on that Gojo woman I thought that you might have had some use, but when you lost you brought an incredible shame upon our country! All four of you should expect some serious consequences when you return."

The four of them immediately got onto the floor while kneeling silently. Pao Guang, slowly tried to escape from the room but then the Emperor suddenly shouted his name.

"PAO GUANG. YOUR MEANT TO BE ACTING AS THEIR GUARDIAN IN MY STEAD, DON'T EXPECT TO KEEP ALL YOUR LIMBS WHEN YOU RETURN."

Before he left the room, he froze from fear before immediately getting on his knees while begging for forgiveness.

The emperor spoke once more, "And then there is you my son, your the only one out of that group that is even worth a damn. Don't expect any more praise from me, this is your responsibility as the heir to this dynasty. In fact I will personally come watch the outcome of this fight between you and the Japanese boy."

As the radio cut out, only silence was left in the room. The once lively Chinese team was immediately torn apart.
