Chapter 2: 2 How it all began II
"I.. I... I", Was all I could say.
I had let them down, let my people down. These thoughts running through my mind completely blocked out the insults they yelled at me. We went to bed right after that, hoping to go back to the boat and report our... my failure to everyone.
I opened my eyes and the first thing I saw was, a fruit, a giant one, almost twice size of my head, it was completely green and had been freshly cut. On one side it had a small slice missing, showing it's golden interior. The green exocarp from the missing slice was right next to it, with the yellow side missing. It almost seemed like... a message.
It tasted like honey, so sweet! I couldn't stop eating.
Pablo woke up second and saw me eating a fruit he had never seen before, he looked at me innocently and I pushed a slice to him. He gobbled it all, in a few minutes, the others had joined in.
"It's so good! How did you know it wasn't poisonous?", Greta asked.
"I... sacrificed for my kingdom.", I lied.
"So how do you know that it's not a slow poison?", Greta asked.
"....we sacrificed for our kingdom.", I lied again.
There was a short silence before we continued eating. We took a picture of the fruit and its plant and saved it as edible.
Two weeks had passed and we had recorded 76 different edible plants and 129 edible parts of those plants, I found most of them by the appearing act, while the others actually experimented on themselves, they got sick, lots of times.
I had no idea what kept leaving the food by me and why it did that, but till now it hadn't given me a reason not to trust it, so I did, I ate every plant that appeared to me without hesitation and always was safe.
The jungle seemed endless, but in all our days here we hadn't seen one sign of intelligent life. We were walking through some thick greenery then saw something... over the cliff we stood on was more island, more and more and more, seemingly endless, the views were out of this world, but the work... we didn't want to think about that.
There was a bustling in the bushes so we got into defensive position, I liked the fact I was in the center of safety as the prince, but didn't like the fact I was doing nothing. It came closer, everyone activated their weapons. Closer, closer...
We were shocked by what we saw;
A man, like us, yet nothing like us. He was a lot darker than us, almost as brown as the sand beneath our feet, his eyes were a lighter shade his hair on the other hand, was black as night.
We being beige and cream with black, brown, blond and red hair made a great colour difference.
He seemed just as surprised as us when he dropped his bag of fish, said something then vanished into the bushes. He came back a few seconds later and used the universal gesture which meant 'come', then disappeared again.
We didn't know whether to trust this strange stranger or not, we decided to follow him cautiously as we still needed to gather information about this new land.
He led us to a dry mud wall which had a massive rock blocking the entrance, there were three other men like him, two of them were huge, really muscular and intimidating to look at, while the last was smaller, thinner and probably faster.
The man bowed and conversed with the smallest man in a language we could not understand, the smallest man looked at us, then nodded to the two Giants.
The one to the right single handedly moved the boulder which would have taken the combined efforts of like three of us to lift.
The smallest man entered right before the bigger guys blocked the way and in a few minutes the smallest man was back. He ushered us to follow and the 1st man left.
Inside the wall was magnificent, it was a village, far more beautiful than any other my people had built before.
Though the houses were clay and not very advanced, the environment was stunning;
Towering trees at every corner with beautiful flowers at every inch. There were magnificent mountains forming a hyperbola around this small community with rivers, waterfalls and ponds everywhere.
The wildlife here too were strange, instead of attacking or hiding like those back at Saggeza, they were gladly moving into compounds to feed on leftovers and fleeing right after.
The people here all looked like the 1st man, in different shades of their dark brown colour, but they all had black hair and brown eyes.
We walked through dozens of pairs of gazing eyes which were probably as astonished as we were. We were led into a room then given food, lots of it.
We ate to our satisfaction, leaving more than our combined body weights behind.
We were then locked in a room against our will and transported for days, weeks.
Finally the doors opened, into a brightly lit room...
