Chapter 122: Marriage and Tips
Although the ceremony was hasty, a few members of the group prepared musical instruments to play the wedding march. Unlike weddings with famous music bands and professional pianist, the simple melody sounded more pleasant to Selina's ears.
Not long ago, she went shopping with Celinda and they had a conversation bout their ideal wedding. To Selina, the setting and decorations didn't matter. What mattered to her was solely on who the groom would be.
Celinda's eyes watered with joy as she focused her attention on Selina. Recalling the conversation they had less than two months ago, she remembered Selina's words in her mind and accidentally recited it in a low whisper. "As long as the person next to me is my love, everything else is the additional packaging. As long as he is my Mr. Right, I will walk down the aisle and hope to hold his hands until the very end."
Lightly clapping her hands with her index fingers brushing against her lips, Celinda watched as Eric held Selina's hand tightly. Smiles and laughter burst from everyone's mouths as they heard Eric give Jason pointers on being a good husband.
"Listen up son. I only have this one daughter. She is our family's most precious treasure even though we've separated for twenty-three years. Still, you cannot bully her or make her upset. In our family, we'll always put her as the center of our hearts. As her father, I'll always spoil my princess, but a husband is different."
Jason straightened his back as he received tips on marriage from his father-in-law. Eric was satisfied seeing his solemn expression. "A relationship is like cooking. When creating flavorful dishes, sometimes you'll add teaspoons of vinegar, sugar, salt and other seasonings. The mixture of these ingredients may not always result in something tasty, but there are ways to fix the flavor."
Exhaling a deep breath, Eric looked at his daughter with a broadened smile. "In a relationship, it isn't always about sweet moments. Dating is different from marriage. I hope your relationship would have a teaspoon of each, but more on the sugar. If sugar isn't enough, then add honey to coat it. Right here, under everyone's eyes, I wish both of you happiness for a lifetime to come."
He lifted her hand as if he was handing her over to Jason.
"I will now hand my precious daughter to you. No matter what happens in the future, I want you two to remember this determination and the love you have for each other that brought you to this step. Take good care of each other and learn lessons as you go on. From here onwards, we will become a family."
Jason stretched out his palm to receive Selina's hand, but before he could grab a hold of his bride's hand, his father-in-law decided to extend his speech. With a patient smile on his face, he listened attentively to his father-in-law's words respectfully.
"It is fate that brought you two together. This is a bond that nobody can destroy, so cherish each other. Okay, I should say the rest later. Now is time to proceed with the ceremony. Here, hold on tight to my daughter's hands."
This time, he loosened his grip on Selina's hand and placed their hands on top of one another.
"Dad.." A drip of tears flowed down her flushed cheeks as her father slowly stepped backwards.
"Silly daughter, you're becoming someone's wife. Don't cry or your eyes will swell and pictures won't turn out well. Dad and mom love you dearly. If he bullies you, we will always be your backup unless you're in the wrong. Go on." Eric reached for his handkerchief and gently dabbed on the wet trail on her face.
Selina nodded as she held Jason's hands and faced towards him. Under the minister's lead, the couple stared affectionately into each other's eyes. As the minister began speaking, the couple could hear the words through one ear and let it flow out in the other. Smiling goofily at each other, they waited for the minister to finish his speech.
Once his voice came to a pause, the couple nodded and said in unison. "I do."
"Congratulations, Mister Hui and Mrs. Hui, I now pronounce you husband and wife." Hearing the minister's words, cheering roars filled the room. Before the celebration could continue, the lawyer stepped out of the crowd and presented the marriage papers.
Jason picked up the pen he used to sign the marriage papers and placed it in Selina's right palm. Using the pen in her hand, she scribbled her name on the blank fields she needed to fill in. After skimming through pages of the documents and confirming everything, she handed the papers back to the lawyer.
"Congratulations, Mister and Mrs. Hui. You may proceed to complete the ceremony." The lawyer reminded a very important part of the ceremony! The kiss!
"Woooo!!! Kiss the bride! Kiss the bride! Kiss the bride!" Everyone shouted from their spot and watched as the couple closed the gap between their lips. With their fingers interlocked, the couple leaned forward, letting their lips meet each other halfway.
"WOOOOOOO!! Yeah!!! Beautiful!!!" Everyone's cheerful laughter echoed in the villa as the couple completed their ceremony.
Celinda wiped tears from her eyes as she livened up the room with her teasing shoutouts. Standing by her side, Bryan watched his girlfriend's emotional expression with a sweet curve on his face. Earlier, he heard every word she whispered.
"Am I the right person?" He accidentally slipped his tongue.
Due to the loud noises in their surroundings, Celinda couldn't hear what he said. She looked up with a smile. Her lips parted, wanting to ask him to repeat himself. When their eyes locked onto each other, she found her words stuck.
His arm shifted from hugging her shoulder to her waist, pulling her into his embrace. Slowly, his face grew closer to her face. Thinking he wanted to kiss her, she naturally closed her eyes. Unfortunately, the kiss she anticipated never came. Instead, she heard his deep voice whispering in her ears.
Her eyes widened as he separated from her. She blinked several times, looking dumbfounded. "W..What did you just say..?"
