Chapter 7: Ren Yamai in police custody

--- Alleyway ---

Akiyama, still pinning Ren Yamai to the ground, made up his mind.

Although this will bring some consequences with it, he can't let this girl get away unscathed. He needed medical attention, and Ren Yamai needed a therapist or similar.

Pulling out his phone he dialed 110, after describing the situation to the operator a police car arrived within 5 minutes.

Ren Yamai was still struggling to get away, she knew she screwed up big time, she just attempted murder, and likely won't get off with just a warning.

The police, handcuffing the resistant Ren Yamai took both her and Akiyama to the nearest police station for questioning.

Akiyama received medical attention at the police station, the cut on his left hand was sutured with 15 stitches.

Unexpectedly, Ren Yamai was cooperative and truthful during questioning. Akiyama expected that Ren Yamai would try to shift the guilt to him. During questioning, she, however, never shut up about Akiyama tainting Komi-san. Akiyama, explaining the circumstances, was able to clear the situation up to the police officers.

Ren Yamai, was, for the moment, held imprisoned at the police station. During later trials, she would be diagnosed with a mental illness and sent to a psychiatry for treatment.

The time being 22:19 Akiyama was finally released and allowed to go back home after signing a victim testimony.

'Sigh... This day was really stressful, I even missed my part-time job interview...'

His grandfather may be paying for the rent, however the money that is left over after paying rent isn't nearly enough to live on his own for. So, leaving him no choice, he has to get a part-time job to pay for his livelihood.

Half an hour later, Akiyama arrived at his apartment complex. Entering his flat, he changed his clothing to something more comfortable.

Strolling into the kitchen, Akiyama made himself some cup ramen, he is, for one, too fatigued to actually cook himself a meal, and secondly it wouldn't be easy to cook something solid with his left hand being wrapped in bandages.

Not owning a TV or any similar entertainment system, Akiyama had no clue what to actually do now. Pulling out his phone, he was surprised to see an SMS from Komi:

*Shoji, this is Shouko, once again, I will be in your care ❤️*

...

'What the hell?'

Akiyama knew that Komi had feelings for him, he isn't blind. He's the same, but he simply wasn't ready yet, his closest relative, his Aunt, just died. And even though he chose to not believe in his "stigmata", for the time being, he wasn't ready to go further with Komi.

Not knowing how to respond to such a text, Akiyama sent a simple response:

*Yeah, me too.*

...

'Haaa... Time to sleep'

Akiyama could really use a good night of sleep to process everything that happened today.

However, unlike Komi, Akiyama didn't have much of a pleasurable dream.

--- Wednesday, Itan Private High School, Class 1-1 ---

Akiyama arrived 10 minutes before class started. Sat down in his seat and prepared for the lesson.

Tadano was currently speaking to Komi, but only until Komi saw Akiyama and his left hand wrapped in bandages. Her heart speeding up, scared, she hastily came over.

*What happened??*, Komi wrote, pointing at his left hand.

"Ahhh... This... How do I explain this...", Akiyama said.

By now, the whole class quieted down, they were all looking at them through their peripheral vision. But, rather than looking at them both, more like staring at Akiyama with a scornful gaze.

"Let's... talk about that later, okay?", Akiyama asked. Although Ren Yamai attacked him, it wasn't his style to defame someone publicly, this is something that should be kept behind closed doors.

Not to mention that the school would definitely find a way to get back at him. Itan Private High School is a private school after all, having their reputation tarnished is something they undeniably would want to avoid. And spreading the news that a student tried to murder another one would unquestionably portray the school in a bad light.

Komi, unwilling, looked Akiyama deep in the eyes, her gaze containing concern and worry.

*Fine...*, she wrote and went back to her seat.

Tadano, at this point, was thoroughly astonished. Since when did Komi know the new transfer student? Judging by the atmosphere the both had, Tadano guessed that they were somewhat more than just acquaintances, could the new transfer student be the reason why Komi was so absentminded the past few months? They definitely knew each other longer than just a day, that much was clear.

Whatever the case may be, Tadano was jealous, he became quite close with Komi in the past few months, but there was just one wall he couldn't climb, no matter what he tried, the wall named the "friend zone". And just now he seems to may have found the reason as to why exactly.

--- Lunch break ---

Once the class ended, Komi immediately went up to Akiyama's table and dragged him onto the roof.

A select few of the class wanted to tail them, annoyed by the transfer student getting that much attention from the school madonna, but Tadano shut them down. Even though he too wanted to peek on them, he felt that it wouldn't be right to intrude on their privacy.

*So, what in the world happened to your hand?*, Komi hastily wrote. She was really worried, but not quite sure why she's so worked up about this, he may have only cut himself while cooking.

"Aahhhh. How do I explain this... Komi, you know our classmate Ren Yamai, right?", Akiyama asked.

*Ren-san, yes obviously I know her.*, Komi knew Ren Yamai, she knows the name of everyone in her class, even if she's not personally acquainted with them.

"Well, then, did you know that Ren Yamai stalked you?", Akiyama carefully asked.

*???*, Komi wrote, not sure what exactly he's talking about.

"Ren Yamai attacked me with a box-cutter in an alleyway yesterday, she became jealous after she saw us hugging on the rooftop. The police said that Ren-san may have a mental illness. Limerence they called it, if I recall correctly.", Akiyama concluded.

A moment of silence passed.

*This... Sorry, I had no idea...*, Komi was shocked and not sure how to react to this, the kind, popular Ren Yamai was her stalker? If it wasn't Akiyama saying this, she wouldn't believe them.

*I'm really sorry...* now tears pooled in her eyes, even though it wasn't Komi's fault in the slightest, she still felt the need to apologize. In her mind, it was her fault.

"What are you talking about, silly?", Akiyama closed the gap between him and Komi, flicking her on her forehead.

Komi, feeling wronged, looked up, she just apologized and gets flicked on the forehead? Unfair.

This time, Akiyama took Komi into his arms, hugging her. She had to know that this was, in no case, her fault. No one can control their stalker, especially if you're unaware that you even have one.

"In no way is it your fault", Akiyama whispered.

'Too close... But he smells good...', Komi thought, turning red.

After spending a good half minute hugging, they separated.

*And where is Ren-san now?*, the flustered Komi asked.

"The police is holding her in custody.", Akiyama responded.

*That's good, I hope she'll get better*, Komi said, although she was angry at Ren Yamai for attacking Akiyama. She couldn't blame her entirely, she did have a mental illness after all. So Komi hoped for her recovery.

CREATORS' THOUGHTS

Hey guys, Author-san here yet again.

Based on the comments on last chapter, sending Ren Yamai to prison got 5 votes, while keeping her in the fan-fic got one vote.

Therefore, Ren Yamai is now in prison. Makes things easier for me, now I don't have to struggle thinking about how a stalker would react in different scenarios :').

I hope the whole police act was somewhat believable, I've never been in police custody, nor have I ever testified for anything ever. Therefore, the whole process was based on my imagination and some research.

Well then, thanks for reading and until next time, byeee ~
