Chapter 10: The Precious Beast Father and Son, Living Up to Their Reputation

Things are not quite the same as in Naruto's era.

The Chunin and Jonin selection exams, they were actually decided by the village. The joint Chunin exam was an inter-village bargaining tactic during peaceful times after the war ended.

So this Jonin exam, it was being held internally within the Leaf Village.

During wartime, Jonin promotions were usually simple, but the current circumstances were a bit different - the war was nearly over.

Yes.

The Third had mentioned it to Kyōichi.

The fighting on the frontlines was completely over, the Sand had sued for peace, and now the shinobi had withdrawn, the war was in its closing stages, some shinobi would even return to the village soon.

The Ninja Academy graduation exam was also on the agenda.

"Looks like I'll need to find a way to speed things up during this time, can't miss out on shearing these fat lambs," Kyōichi secretly plotted.

If his guesses about the system were correct, teaching the Body Flicker next should yield considerable rewards.

However.

Just teaching the kids would only give so much reward.

"Looks like I'll need to research this system more," he thought.

Based on the newbie rewards, what he had gotten so far really wasn't much.

There must be ways to get even higher rewards!

The next day Kyōichi didn't have classes, so he let a shadow clone practice swordplay while he went out to train his body.

There were noticeably more people in the streets.

It looked like some shinobi had returned!

Kyōichi saw a familiar face.

All in green.

Might Guy.

He had graduated from the Academy at 7, and during that exam he had fought Obito directly, interrupting his Fireball Jutsu hand seals.

After running some more, Kyōichi saw another "familiar face".

Might Duy!

Dressed the same, just with more facial hair, he looked like an enlarged version of Guy.

Might Duy?

Kyōichi's mind stirred.

This was a good target!

Others didn't know, but he understood how powerful Duy's body was.

In the original work, Duy didn't know any taijutsu forms, relying solely on his mighty physique to open the Eight Gates, and sent the famous Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist flying with just some punches and kicks.

If he could learn proper taijutsu forms, how strong would he be?

Kyōichi was very tempted.

If he could instruct Duy, the rewards would definitely be exceptional.

However.

If he just went up and offered to teach out of the blue, the other party might see him as a weirdo.

He would need to approach this carefully.

With this thought, he didn't say anything more, just kept on running.

At first Duy didn't notice.

But on the second lap, he noticed Kyōichi persistently running.

There was still someone in the village so dedicated to taijutsu?

And.

Very young, 15 or 16 at most.

Duy became rather curious.

Third lap, fourth lap...

Guy sped up.

Kyōichi laughed inwardly.

Kids really couldn't sit still, trying to compete after just a little provocation?

He increased his speed as well.

Kyōichi had Senju bloodline, his body recovered quickly, although not as sturdy as Duy, but...

Can't outrun your dad, but you think you can outrun me?

After an hour.

Guy noticed Kyōichi wasn't red-faced or panting at all, clearly not exerting much effort, and could definitely go faster without tiring too much.

Just as he was considering taking off his weights.

"Guy! You..."

Boom!

A heavy muffled sound.

Guy was kicked flying.

Right after,

Duy rushed over in a blur, tears streaming down his face as he hugged Guy's head saying: "You! Hard training isn't for competing and fighting fervor!"

"Yes, father, I know I was wrong."

"..."

Taking a deep breath.

No wonder Guy was called a Precious Beast by Kisame, this could be seen from Duy's behavior currently.

The two hugged each other bawling.

Even having seen it in the anime, Kyōichi still felt a strong discomfort. If these two were in his original world, they would be typical social showoffs.

Too intense!

Though to onlookers, it was a bit awkward.

At this time, he was considering whether to leave for a bit first, then come back later.

Luckily the crying stopped then.

"Thank you for not comparing notes with my boy!"

Duy said gratefully.

Although not knowing Kyōichi's rank, he vaguely felt the other was at least Chunin if not stronger.

"Just training, nothing much."

Kyōichi shook his head.

Then, he bid Duy and Guy farewell, continuing his run. After running some distance, he went to a roadside grove to practice forms.

Which were the taijutsu forms Guy had researched.

Leaf Hurricane.

This was the core of Guy's Strong Fist style, and many later taijutsu moves built off it. The difficulty wasn't high either, Kyōichi's shadow clone had practiced it proficiently in half a day.

At first Duy and Guy didn't mind.

But after passing by several times and seeing Kyōichi still practicing his flying kicks, they couldn't help but scrutinize the move.

As a result.

"You're not running anymore?"

"Ah...we're deeply sorry, just now we were secretly watching you practice, really inappropriate of us!"

Duy immediately bowed in apology.

Although shinobi training wasn't too taboo to observe, staring at techniques like this could easily lead to conflicts.

"No problem, I'm also still researching this move, if you're interested we can discuss it together. Let me introduce myself, I'm Kyōichi Kanda, a teacher at the Academy, what about you?"

"You teach at the Academy?"

Guy was a bit surprised.

Didn't look more than a few years older than himself...

"Teacher Kanda, I'm Duy, this is my son Guy."

Duy introduced them.

"You two have very strong physiques, want to research taijutsu together?"

"This..."

"You're really willing to teach me?"

Duy hesitated, but Guy couldn't hold back.

He liked the look of that move!

He wanted to learn.

But Duy had said before that it took him 20 years to develop that one move. If Guy split his focus, he might not fully grasp his father's techniques.

Guy was conflicted.

In fact, Duy was also hesitating.

He was an eternal Genin, his son Guy also no genius, aside from taijutsu his grades were failing in the Academy, only passing due to exceptional taijutsu.

Usually, the two were unpopular.

This youth was already a Chunin so young, and was kind enough to even offer teaching them taijutsu...

"Teacher Kanda, this..."

"Just some taijutsu moves."

Kyōichi didn't press them, only focused on his own practice.

Guy imitated the motions at the side. Duy hesitated for a bit, but didn't pull Guy away in the end.
