Chapter 12: What is the Will of Fire? This is!

"So fast!"

Shisui couldn't help but exclaim.

He thought his teacher might be quite skilled, but never imagined Kyōichi's Body Flicker Technique was so quick he barely needed hand seals anymore, activating it with almost no tell.

Just now, he had barely sensed any chakra disturbance.

This meant...

If Kyōichi was hiding and suddenly rushed out to kill him, he might not even have time to defend himself.

"So powerful."

The other students were also full of amazement.

They didn't understand.

But.

Very fast!

So fast it was almost instantaneous.

"Shisui, demonstrate for everyone."

"Yes!"

Shisui didn't hesitate.

Forming hand seals, mobilizing chakra, he then flickered behind Kyōichi.

But.

His speed was clearly much slower.

The difference seemed small, but it was obvious which was superior.

"Does everyone see the difference?"

"Yes!"

Shiranui Genma nodded eagerly.

He understood now.

Even though it was the same Body Flicker Technique, the chakra control, hand seals and other details were slightly different, but in actual combat, those minute differences could be hugely impactful, potentially deciding the outcome of a fight or even life and death.

"What I taught today was the intricacies of the Body Flicker Technique."

Kyōichi began explaining the many details involved.

The civilian children were enraptured, including the kids from minor clans like Shiranui Genma. Though not secret techniques, the knowledge Kyōichi shared was incredibly valuable to them who had little access to high level skills.

Asuma, listening below, was filled with confusion.

Why was Teacher...

How did clans establish themselves?

It was these techniques and secrets, yet Kyōichi was freely imparting his insights and knowledge to students at the Academy, no different than handing down the foundations of his clan.

It made no sense.

The Asuma now was not the jōnin who had returned from the Daimyō's side, enlightened to the essence of "King."

He was very lost, full of doubts and curiosity.

To Asuma, it seemed normal for one to use such skills to strengthen their own clan, not share them with others like this...

After one class.

Asuma had barely absorbed any of it.

"The war is nearly over, shinobi are returning to the village, you'll likely be reassigned into new classes by grade, chances to continue learning together will be limited."

Kyōichi lamented, "Actually these techniques were extracurricular, I could have chosen not to teach them."

"!!!"

Hearing this, Asuma instantly pricked up his ears.

That's right.

He was curious!

Not just him, many kids were curious, Shisui included.

"But with how frequent wars have been in recent years, this year's war with Suna has ended, who knows what next year will bring. My parents died on the battlefield long ago, I was fortunate to survive certain accidents."

"Many of you will graduate this year, I hope you'll live on."

"Dismissed."

Kyōichi waved his hand, signaling everyone could leave.

But.

None of the kids left, they vaguely understood the circumstances.

Teacher might be leaving.

Just as Kyōichi said, this class was a mishmash formed due to lack of shinobi teachers during wartime, naturally it wouldn't continue mixed like this with the war over.

And...

"Someone as powerful as Teacher definitely can't remain a teacher, he probably already has a jōnin assignment."

Kurenai said softly from the back.

Her father was a chūnin instructor, so she was familiar with normal chūnin skill levels.

The village wouldn't sideline a jōnin.

Especially at wartime.

Asuma was utterly shocked.

He thought of his father's words.

Will of Fire!

What was the Will of Fire?

Perhaps Teacher Kyōichi's actions like this, were the Will of Fire!

"You brats stop guessing randomly, alright dismissed, don't forget extra training after class, I will inspect your progress next time."

These parting words Kyōichi came up with on the spot.

One, to verbalize some "inner thoughts."

Two...

He wanted to test whether the system rewards were related to the psychological response of those taught. If so, more experience fleecing them for wool.

And.

Wasn't speech and moral education also teaching?

Good deeds not spoken won't be known by the Sandaime and others.

Kyōichi was quite impressed with himself.

In fact.

His guess wasn't wrong, right now there were quite a few people watching him, the Sandaime among them.

Witnessing this scene, the Sandaime was very shocked.

Then deeply moved.

As expected.

Kamida Kyōichi truly understood the Will of Fire!

"Worthy of being Teacher's descendant."

The Sandaime was filled with complex emotions.

Using his Telescope Technique to observe, he naturally also saw Fugaku Uchiha by the school gates, and thinking of the Uchiha clan, he couldn't help but chuckle.

Kamida Kyōichi was truly capable!

Making him a temporary teacher, he even nurtured Shisui into a good kid like Obito.

What a shame he wasn't of his lineage.

If he could become Tsunade's disciple, there was no doubt he could have a place as Hokage in the future.

The Sandaime sank into contemplation.

...

"Shisui."

At the school gates.

Shisui had followed Kyōichi out the entire way, asking several details about the Body Flicker Technique, to which Kyōichi freely imparted all he knew.

Seeing Fugaku in the distance, Shisui paused, turned and bowed deeply.

"Teacher, are you going to become a jōnin?"

"If nothing unexpected happens, probably."

Kyōichi murmured, then slowly nodded.

The jōnin exams were just a formality since his accomplishments were insufficient, so it was more of a routine promotion within the village.

Even if not just for show, he was confident.

"I see, thank you Teacher... oh right, I should get going first."

A smile rose on Shisui's face.

Then, taking a deep breath, organizing his thoughts, he turned and headed toward Fugaku.

Fugaku's eyes narrowed slightly, exchanging a nod with Kyōichi from afar, then left with Shisui.

Returning to the clan grounds.

Only then did Fugaku speak: "Shisui, that person was the substitute teacher recently?"

"Yes, his name is Kamida Kyōichi, a great teacher."

Shisui respectfully replied.

"I heard you've been following Obito lately, always helping the villagers fetch water and gather firewood?"

"Yes, because I noticed those civilians don't seem to like me, but they're almost without prejudice toward Obito, I was very curious, so I observed and tried it out, and as expected, those civilians don't reject me anymore."

A smile rose on Shisui's face.

Raising his head to look at Fugaku, he said: "Clan Head, I feel like our clan could also try more interaction with them, or else they'll keep misunderstanding the Uchiha."

"..."

Hearing this, Fugaku was shocked, stroking Shisui's hair in silence for a long while.

Shisui was only 5.

Yet it was a child's words that shocked him most.

Because Shisui was only 5, yet already viewed things from the clan's perspective.

This was quite rare!

Looking at Shisui for a few seconds, Fugaku let out a long sigh, saying: "Easier said than done... but it's good you think this way, seems like you are different from Obito after all."

Obito acted purely from his heart.

Shisui did things with purpose, observing intentionally. The two were clearly different, which reassured Fugaku somewhat.

"Clan Head, may I follow other jōnin after graduation?"

Shisui continued.

"You wish to join that Kamida Kyōichi's squad?"

Fugaku fell into turmoil.

Previously he would never have agreed, but Shisui's words made him further recognize this child's intelligence, and...

Shisui didn't know, but he understood.

Currently the Uchiha were like fish in a pond, he wished to try, but couldn't find direction.

Now Shisui seemed to be an opportunity!

To build ties with Kamida Kyōichi, as a stepping stone once more into the Hokage's Anbu.

Thinking of this, Fugaku slowly nodded: "I understand, if Kamida Kyōichi can be promoted to jōnin and is willing to lead a squad, I will suggest it to the Sandaime."

"Thank you Clan Head!"
