Chapter 37: Testing Skills

-------

- Skills:

- [Analyse]

- [Loot]

- [Level 0 Mana Ball]

- [Level 0 Mana Missiles]

-------

Among the four skills that Ethan possessed, he had only ever cast the mana ball skill.

Despite recently acquiring and using this skill, Ethan found it to be quite effective and satisfactory.

The mana ball skill had proven to deal a significant amount of damage in his recent battle.

However, Ethan couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed that he couldn't cast a larger number of mana balls; he was currently limited to seven.

Though seven wasn't a huge number, it wasn't a small amount either.

Through his initial experience using the mana ball skill in combat, Ethan came to realise that the mage class had its merits.

While he wasn't strictly playing the game as a mage, Ethan recognized the potent firepower that mages typically possessed in various games, provided they had sufficient mana.

Mana, the resource needed for casting spells, was pivotal for mages.

Without an adequate mana pool, most mages would find themselves severely weakened.

This was also the case for Ethan, but he wasn't a typical mage.

Ethan's unique circumstances set him apart.

However, this didn't negate the frustration Ethan felt after depleting all his mana in battle.

The sensation of having almost no mana was quite unpleasant and also left Ethan with a feeling of discomfort.

Ethan's positive experience with the mana ball skill underscored the importance of his intelligence stat.

While he hadn't yet tried out the mana missile skill, Ethan found the mana ball skill to be immensely satisfying.

If the mana missile skill turned out to be as effective, or even better, Ethan contemplated making adjustments to his playstyle and possibly making sacrifices to accommodate these skills.

These thoughts were just fleeting considerations that crossed Ethan's mind; they were far from being definitive plans.

Ethan acknowledged that it was premature to jump to conclusions or make hasty decisions, yet he couldn't help but contemplate the potential benefits of these skills.

Apart from the mana missiles skill, there were two other skills that Ethan had yet to cast.

Based on the skill names, Ethan could deduce that they were not attack or projectile skills like the mana ball and mana missiles skills.

This deduction followed the typical logic of gaming.

One of these skills was named "Analyse," and Ethan's gaming intuition led him to believe that it might serve the purpose of checking information on various things, often encountered in games—be it living creatures or inanimate objects.

The loot skill, on the other hand, was more straightforward.

The skill's usage could be deduced from its name: looting.

This was a term that any player should be familiar with.

It was precisely because of this term that Ethan had collected the corpses of the two forest wolves.

The corpses were still in his inventory, and Ethan thought that it was finally time for them to serve a purpose.

In reality, this was not Ethan's initial plan.

Ethan had decided to gather the forest wolves' corpses at that time out of his gaming habit.

Loot was loot, and no matter how small a piece of mosquito meat was, it was still meat.

Ethan didn't anticipate that these corpses would become useful at a time like this or be utilised in this manner.

Regardless, Ethan's mind was occupied with thoughts about what might happen next.

Ethan was also feeling excited due to this.

With various thoughts racing through his mind, Ethan mentally accessed his status and immediately navigated to the inventory section.

-----

- Inventory:

- [Level 1 Low Common Grade Staff]

- [Level 1 Low Uncommon Grade Health Potion x1]

- [Level 1 Low Uncommon Grade Mana Potion x1]

- [Level 2 Low Uncommon Grade Mana Potion x1]

- [{Normal Grade}Level 1 Forest Wolf Corpse x2]

—--------

Ethan's inventory contained several items, although not an abundance of them.

Firstly, there was the starting weapon Ethan had received when he chose "mage" as his class.

Alongside that were the two level 1 low uncommon-grade potions, part of the newbie package for new players.

These potions were connected to the staff Ethan had received at the beginning of his journey.

Additionally, there was another potion in his inventory that didn't originally belong to Ethan.

It was the potion that Mia had given Ethan along with his sword, which had been destroyed recently, in exchange for allowing her to accompany him.

It was only now did Ethan realise the nature of this potion.

Although it wasn't the health potion Ethan had initially hoped for, it was of the same grade as the one Mia had consumed to survive the wolf attack.

Being the highest-grade item in his inventory, Ethan was content with having it.

After accounting for the potions and staff, Ethan's attention shifted to his original reason for checking his inventory—the forest wolf corpses.

Ethan planned to utilise these corpses to test the functionalities of his Analyse and Loot skills.
