Chapter 57: Dungeon of the Vengeful (7)

The second boss room was identical to the first. It was the same size and had the same torch lighting and door mechanisms that activated once Enzo stepped into the room.

He already knew what to expect now, but the massive pile of bones in the middle of the floor confirmed what he assumed would occur.

The bones started rattling violently before they quickly flew towards each other at a speed that was almost untrackable to Enzo's eyes.

In just a few seconds a large skeleton warrior was standing in front of Enzo. It looked the same as the smaller versions of itself, but was over 10 feet (3 m) tall and carried a longbow instead of a cutlass.

[Skeleton Captain (Boss)]

[Level 12]

[HP: 5,000/5,000]

The skeleton was a level above the rest of the monsters Enzo had encountered in the dungeon, but oddly its health was lower than the Zombie Leader. The only explanation to this he could think of is that because the Skeleton Captain used an archer type class it had less health.

Enzo quickly unsheathed his katana and dashed towards the boss monster before it could ready its bow. However, the skeleton was much faster than he thought it would be.

In just a second the skeleton had its bow up and pointing at Enzo with an arrow nocked and ready to fly.

The arrow seemingly came out of nowhere as Enzo never saw the monster draw it. It looked like it was made of carved bone and the arrow tip was jagged and sharp.

Woosh!

The skeleton quickly let the arrow fly.

Enzo may not have anticipated the skeleton readying its bow so quickly, but he was able to gauge the speed of the beast because of it, so he was ready for the arrow.

Enzo jumped to the side and continued running as the arrow lodged itself into the ground where he was running just a second ago.

The skeleton jumped back a great distance and pulled its bow back once again.

Enzo was able to get closer to it than he was from the start, but the retreat of the monster created a lot more space in between them.

Woosh!

As soon as it landed the Skeleton Captain let the arrow fly.

Enzo rolled forward and the arrow missed him by multiple feet.

Enzo had quickly realized he could just look at the tip of the arrow to predict the trajectory.

It wouldn't be completely accurate, but doing this would allow him to dodge the arrows with eaze.

The arrow hit the wall behind Enzo and made a loud sound as it lodged itself within the stone.

The skeleton then jumped again in an attempt to get away from Enzo, but it had to jump to the side as it was against the back of the wall.

Enzo was still able to get within 15 feet of the skeleton because it wasn't able to go as far away when dodging to the side.

Once he felt he was close enough, Enzo stopped right in his tracks.

The skeleton raised its bow again and let the arrow fly.

Enzo instantly dashed in a diagonal direction.

He was able to cause the arrow to just graze his shoulder, but its speed still caused the arrow to take a lot of health points from Enzo.

The reason Enzo stopped and then intentionally got hit was because he knew if he dodged like normal he wouldn't be able to catch up to the skeleton as it jumped away. There was also the fact that if he got too close the skeleton would be able to shoot its arrow fast enough that Enzo wouldn't be able to react and dodge.

The skeleton still tried to jump away, but Enzo accurately predicted where it would go next.

After many fights, he now had a basic understanding of the intelligence of the monsters in Legends Reborn Online. They were definitely smart and it made fights much harder than they should be, but they were nowhere on the level of humans in intelligence. Monsters lacked the trickery and scheming that humans had, especially humans like Enzo.

Enzo is a complete natural when it comes to things like planning and schemes because of his high intelligence. He never had the opportunity to take a real IQ test, but even he would bet on his IQ being higher than average, and he is not a narcissistic person at all.

Enzo already predicted the direction the skeleton would jump in, and made alterations to his running direction when he saw the monster getting ready to jump.

He met the monster as it landed and slashed his katana towards the skeleton's torso.

The blue gem on its chest now had a deep gash in it and many cracks. Enzo knew the gem would be its weakness anyway, but he noticed the golden glow as he got closer to the monster, so he decided to attack there.

Enzo quickly stabbed his weapon back at the blue gem before the skeleton could jump away again.

It didn't do as much damage this time because the skeleton dodged mid attack, causing the sword to not pierce as far.

The skeleton also wasn't able to get far enough away from Enzo to make a difference because of not only the pain the attacks caused, but also because of the obstruction the second attack provided. The monster was only able to run a few feet before Enzo caught up again.

Enzo swiped his katana at the knee cap of the monster.

The katana hit it in just the right place, causing the lower leg to fall completely off.

Enzo stabbed at the blue gem once again, but the skeleton was ready this time. It brought up the bow to block the katana and then tried to parry, but the skeleton wasn't strong enough to do so with only one leg.

Enzo won the strength challenge and was able to slash his katana through the weak spot again.

The skeleton completely dropped the bow this time and attempted to run away, but forgot about the predicament it was in with its leg.

It fell to the ground with a loud thump.

Enzo jumped on top of the bone monster and stabbed his weapon through the openings in the rib cage multiple times, piercing the gem.
