Chapter 25: Gods and Demons

Russell searched through the walls and found two hot spots surrounded by six cooler shadowy figures. Those would be the weapons crews working their guns to keep us pinned down. Please don't ask me how he could make the shots through the warped geometry. I have no idea.

The angle was poor, and the lines of sight would be equally flawed, if not unnatural. Russell kept his eye on the scope as his hand traced his belt, searching. His fingers could easily tell the difference between the horizontal, diagonal, and vertical tape on the side of each magazine.

He only carried two cross-taped clips because only demons and enraged psychic entities justified using such destructive bullets. The heavy guns were the apparent targets, but he studied the thermal image through the scope. He made an educated guess, adjusted his aim an inch to the left, and switched to rapid-fire as he began to hum "From the Halls of Montezuma…."
