Chapter 33: Chapter 33
Every other person looked at them including 1. GMN-7 felt like pulling their eyes out and giving it to them to eat because it was of no use.
"Prove it" GMN-6 said. She didn't know what to believe. She had walked in with GMN-1 but it was also 1 who attacked them judging from the video. She wasn't really interested in the 'if...' as much as the 'why'. If they knew it wasn't GMN-1 then they have to have something to prove it. GMN-1 wouldn't leave without 4 or 9 noticing it unless they were covering for her which didn't seem to case. GMN-2 had been with them yet he had believed that the person who attacked wasn't 1.
GMN-1 threw the can she was holding back across the room without looking and it landed right in the trash can just as GMN-4 was saying
"If she wanted any of you dead, you'd be dead" GMN-4 stated. It made a lot of sense. GMN-1 wasn't know to miss a shot even if the target was moving at an irregular speed and Doc had been pacing not even driving. She also had a chance to strangle Doc and shot Deccan but she didn't, GMN-1 wasn't one to play around.
GMN-2 took the video back and paused it then zoomed in, enlarging GMN-1's profile on the screen.
"They look alike but they are different. Her eye colour, lips, chin almost everything has a slight difference" GMN-2 said
The others took a closer look and for sure there were differences.
"You sure pay attention to details" GMN-4 said. If you didn't listen carefully, you wouldn't notice the subtle change in his tone. It wasn't that he didn't recognize these subtle differences but the fact that 2 recognized them too was grating on him.
"I pay attention to every detail" GMN-2 replied in like manner
GMN-1 just looked at the two of them. Were they struggling to take credit for who could recognize her best. The rest of the GMNs looked from the screen to GMN-1 and back. She knew the moment they accepted that she wasn't the attacker. So the problem of who the attacker was still remained.
"It has been proven that GMN-1 wasn't the one that attacked me" Doc said a bit relieved. If GMN-1 hadn't been the one then that means she hasn't remembered, so there was still time. She had a feeling that if 1 remembers she could make other people remember. She had to move fast. She underestimated a 'Stone' [1] once she wasn't going to try it again.
"So if it wasn't her, who was it and why does the person look so much like her? " GMN-5 asked
"I'll look into it... " Doc began trying to get to the point she wanted to but she was interrupted. She was shaken but if they perceived that, she would look weak in their eyes and they may no longer value her.
Williams opened his eyes to a somewhat dim room, he closed his eyes again. His body was aching all over. He moaned in pain. The sound brought other people's attention to him. When he opened his eyes again he was surrounded by pairs of bright eyes looking at him. He adjusted his position to see their faces very well. He felt another faint coming up. There were seven new faces, five of them he recognised as among the missing children. There was a woman who seemed familiar and a man he didn't recognize.
"Where am I? "Williams asked rubbing the back of his head
"Hello Timothy. Take him to room 150B" Doc said to no one in particular and no one responded.
"7!" Doc called again before GMN-7 carried the confused man out.
GMN-9 looked at 1 and 4 but they seemed not to notice. He didn't know what Doc wanted with Williams.
Doc cleared her voice and they all turned their attention to her.
"This unfortunate incident shouldn't have happened in the first place. I don't know what is going on but I intend to look into it. However there are issues that need your urgent attention. It is now obvious that our enemies are hot on our trail so we'll have to act fast. GMN 1, 2, 3 and 6 you will retrieve the box. GMN 4 and 5, I have a special assignment for the both of you. GMN 7 and 9 you'll stay back and help us find the breach in our system." Doc said
They all starred at her. They just came back from the one they went on and she was sending them on another one.
"What box? " GMN-1 asked
"The others will fill you in, the location has already been sent to the GPS. 7 and 9 go with Deccan. 4 and 5 come with me."Doc said turning to go. They obeyed. This night was far from over.
Deccan led 7 and 9 away.
"You are going to be working with the tech and security guys for the rest of the night. We need to find out how she came in and how she left. " Deccan said. The two GMNs did not reply bit only nodded. Deccan knew that wasn't the only reason why Doc had asked them to stay back. She needed them as additional security. He was grateful they didn't confess to anything when they were faced with the fake GMN-1 or it would have been caught on camera. He didn't know there was a camera in Doc's office. Was there also a camera in his office? He needed to find out.
Doc led GMN 4 and 5 to her office. She had a special assignment for each of them. She reached her office and brought out four files. She had contemplated adding the fifth one but she decided to save it for later. It was among the ones she was hoping to enjoy. She handed the files to GMN-4. He opened the first file, looked over it and did the same with the rest. He looked up at Doc.
"You want me to...? " GMN-4 asked. He obviously knew this mission was for him but he didn't know why 5 was tagging along.
"Kill them" Doc stated
GMN-4 nodded and left. GMN- 5 followed behind him not before she caught the sign Doc gave her. She nodded.
GMN-4 went back to the common room fortunately, the other GMNs were still there except 7 and 9. From the look of his face and the file he was holding they all knew what the special assignment was. GMN-1 was beginning to think Doc had a list. She didn't just give them names she gave them background information and the targets' routine information like she has had them under surveillance. This posed another question. If she had them investigated why were they the ones doing the killing. She shook her head; even though the reasonable part of her was questioning these killings there was a part of her that was fueled by it. She watched 4 pick a car key and head out with 5 behind him. He exchanged looks with 2. It was more like a warning look. Why does it seem like these two were on each others tails? She pushed it to the back of her mind.
"I was told to tell you that you are time constrained" GMN-9 said coming in just as 4 was heading out. The others headed towards the door. GMN-1 kicked something from beside the chair. GMN-9 looked at it but said nothing. He understood what that meant. What she kicked had fallen off Williams and it was a note to him to keep an eye on Williams.
They got to the garage and stood close to their cars. GMN-4 gave 2 that same look again before entering the driver's seat. GMN-5 looked smug, eyeing her as she got into the passenger's seat. She was tempted to laugh. GMN-5 was obviously showing off that she was the one chosen to work with 4 and not her. She wished she could invisibly tag along just to amuse herself. Well, she wished 5 luck on her front. GMN-4 drove out leaving them.
GMN-1 turned to find 2 watching her and the rest watching them. From the look on 3 and 6 she had a feeling she had been dragged into the beef [2] between 4 and 2 without her knowing. GMN-2 starred at her with varying emotions playing on his face, then he snapped out and got into the driver's seat. GMN-3 took the passenger's seat so she ended up in the back with GMN-6.
"About the box? " GMN-1 inquired
"So we go to nab the box and there's this huge notice on the gate that says 'gone to country house'. We make it inside, no targets and no box. Did I forget to mention the place was unkempt and full of booby traps. Those maniacs actually wired the door and spiked the gates" GMN-6 said
"You're the maniac, they are psychos" GMN-2 countered and 6 rolled her eyes.
"The box? " GMN-1 asked again. GMN-6 didn't actually answer her question.
"I told you it wasn't there so we are going to get it" GMN-6 replied seeming frustrated. She had just explained that.
"We don't know much about the box except it's a bronze box in the keep of two psychos which we are not to open" GMN-3 replied
This was a bit better that 6's explanation except she couldn't get much from it. They were actually going to the home of psychos to retrieve a bronze box. What if there was more than one bronze box or the content has been removed? They just took the mission like that? She stifled the urge to shake her head. The logical part of her seemed to be working over time today. She rested her head on the head rest and closed her eyes. She was feeling mentally exhausted.
She felt GMN-3 pass her something. She collected the thing without opening her eyes and then opened it when she noticed it was a paper. She read the note
'I think someone tampered with your brain'
"What!? "
