Chapter 92: Flevateinn
Before Ryse was a sea of blood. Cries echoed through the sky and the stench of blood filled the air. In the midst of such a brutal war, Ryse watched two figures move about. Secluded in a small area, the sound of flesh hitting each other repeated.
("Those two are monsters…") [Ryse]
In a battle to the death, Askyros and Kafma exchanged blows. They struck each other until their knuckles bled, and then continued striking.
"HAHAHA!!! More! Show me more of your power!" [Kafma]
As if he was insane, Kafma laughed hysterically in his clash of power.
"...You're insane." [Askyros]
"Oh? Then what about you?" [Kafma]
His question left Askyros puzzled. Though he had no time to think in the middle of combat, Askyros couldn't help but wonder.
"I'm not insane." [Askyros]
He threw a punch at Kafma, but immediately received a fist to the chin. Staggering backwards a bit, Askyros spat out blood to the side.
"...That's a good look you have there." [Kafma]
Askyros wore a grin on his face. It was as if he was infected with the feeling of insanity Kafma gave off.
"Come, there's no way that punch was enough to put you down." [Kafma]
"I'm going to make you regret putting away that sword of yours." [Askyros]
The two traded blows. Their facial expressions displayed unnatural amounts of excitement as they bloodied themselves all over.
"BAHAHAHA!!!" [Kafma]
"KUHAHAHA!!!" [Askyros]
("These two have lost it!") [Adam]
Laughing through the pain, they eventually began to move sluggishly. Askyros' limbs felt like lead, and his vision blurred.
"Haah… Haah… Had enough yet…?" [Kafma]
"Haah… Haah… Not until you keel over." [Askyros]
Their emotions were burning with determination to come out on top, but their duel was interrupted with a cry for help.
"UWAHH!!" [???]
Askyros glanced behind him to see Ryse being swarmed by hostile soldiers. He seemed to be holding out against men under the Sovereign of Vengeance, but only barely.
"Finish him off already! It's only one man!" [Hostile Soldier]
"Teichos floge, Flame Wall!" [Ryse]
Pillars of fire burst out of the ground, surrounding him with flaming tongues.
"Tsk! Put out the fire with water magic!" [Hostile Soldier]
In response to his command, a few men stepped forward.
"Schismi nerou! Water Propulsion!" [Hostile Soldiers]
Columns of water spewed from their hands, dousing the fire walls into smoke.
("They're fast! I didn't think they would counter my magic that quickly!") [Ryse]
Gritting his teeth, he found himself surrounded.
("...I have no choice. I'll just take out as many as I can with my last resort.") [Ryse]
A circle appeared around his chest, spinning faster and faster until it illuminated an orange light.
"Ekragei, Explode-" [Ryse]
"Fragida, Lock!" [???]
An unknown voice spoke out, shattering the circle on Ryse's chest.
"What just-?!" [Ryse]
"He's vulnerable! Get him!" [Hostile Soldier]
("My spell is broken?! I need to recast it!") [Ryse]
He concentrated on moving his mana within, but it was all in vain.
("I can't use my mana?!") [Ryse]
In the midst of his confusion, his enemies closed in on him.
("We need to help him!") [Adam]
"Sto-" [Askyros]
"STOP!!" [Kafma]
A booming voice compelled those around to freeze. Looking at Kafma's expression, he seemed to be very displeased.
"Leave!" [Kafma]
He glared at his own allies, and they retreated away from Ryse.
("He… saved me?") [Ryse]
Kafma let out a sigh and returned his gaze back at Askyros.
"...Why did you order them to leave? We're enemies." [Askyros]
"Your attention would be on your friend, correct? I don't want an opponent who doesn't think of me." [Kafma]
"...You're a strange person." [Askyros]
"I could say the same to you." [Kafma]
They both released a small chuckle. Immediately afterwards, they leapt forward. The two slammed their fists into each other, sending each other flying backwards.
"Oof!" [Kafma]
"Ngh!" [Askyros]
Grunting from the impact, they picked themselves up and rushed at each other. As they pummeled each other, Askyros felt a strange feeling well up inside him.
("He's… getting stronger?!") [Kafma]
Askyros' breath seemed to steam, and his veins began to give off a faint glow. As his body shone brighter and brighter, Kafma's eyes widened in amazement.
"...Flevateinn?!" [Kafma]
In his surprise, Kafma received a blow faster than he could react. Through sheer instinct, his body blocked the strike.
("Ugh! My I can't feel my hands!") [Kafma]
Askyros became faster, and he hit much harder. He went on the offensive, forcing Kafma into a corner.
"Guard with your life." [Askyros]
The lights in his body converged to his fist, and Kafma immediately knew it was a fatal attack.
"Pano nefriti, Ground Guardian!" [Kafma]
The earth covered him like a veil, but Askyros' attack smashed its way through it. He felt the resistance of flesh on his fist, and Askyros saw Kafma hurtling out the back of the veil.
"Ugh… I didn't think you would have Flevateinn." [Kafma]
"I don't know what that is." [Askyros]
"Take a good look at yourself." [Kafma]
Askyros inspected his hands, finally taking notice of the bright blue veins shining through his skin.
"A condition where your body is empowered by excess mana and helps you grow in all aspects beyond belief. I can see how you grew stronger since I last saw you." [Kafma]
"..." [Askyros]
He looked up from his hands, and peeked at Kafma's sword in the ground. Keeping his silence, he pointed at The Giant Slayer.
"...You want me to use it?" [Kafma]
In response to his question, Askyros shook his head in objection.
"That sword… I'm going to break it." [Askyros]
