Chapter 1: Prologue (Optional)
The year was 2025, and the world was in a state of chaos. An event dubbed "The Divide," shook the lives of everyone. News reporters from all corners of the globe were frantically reporting on an unprecedented event that had just occurred. It seemed as though the sky had split in two, with a blinding eruption of light emanating from the North Pole and an equally ominous eruption of darkness from the South Pole.
"Breaking news: We are receiving reports of a massive explosion of light emanating from the North Pole," said a news anchor from Canada. "No one knows what's causing it, but the impact is being felt across the entire globe."
Meanwhile, a news anchor from Australia was reporting on the equally terrifying eruption of darkness from the South Pole. "I'm standing on the southernmost tip of Australia, and I can see the sky turning pitch black as we speak. This is unprecedented, folks. We have no idea what's causing it or how long it will last."
News spread,and panic began to set in. People all over the world were scrambling to understand what was happening and how it would affect their lives. Governments were mobilizing, trying to keep their citizens safe and informed.
As the days passed, the world became acutely aware of the effects of the ethereal light and engulfing darkness. The light that emanated from the North Pole changed the way the world looked. It bathed the land in a gentle, almost ethereal glow that made everything appear otherworldly. Flowers bloomed brighter, trees swayed more peacefully, and animals roamed in harmony. The light had a calming effect on everything that it touched.
On the other side of the world, the darkness growing louder in magnitude than the light, an incomprehensible force was consuming everything in its path. The darkness withered the land it touched, sucking the life and vitality out of once fertile fields of crops. The wind whistled mournfully as it passed by, as if singing a death tune. Living beings which had been touched by the darkness began to feel frail and weak, their energy levels diminishing by the day. Human beings eventually began to feel the effects, with widespread reports of anemia, fatigue, and depression as the darkness seeped into their homes.
The world was thrown into a state of confusion, as no one could explain what was happening. The best of the world's scientific minds came together, but even they were at a loss to explain this phenomenon. Governments formed task forces to study and understand the impacts of the light and darkness, developing emergency protocols to deal with the crisis at hand.
It didn't take long before the darkness spreading through the southern hemisphere grew stronger, and so did its lethality. People began to fall sick, their energy drained, and their hope destroyed. The dark energy choked off the plants and animals, turning the once-thriving ecosystem into a barren, lifeless wasteland. The only thing that remained was death.
The governments of the world were left with no choice but to declare the southern half of the world uninhabitable. Evacuation orders were sent out, and people fled their homes, searching for any way to escape the deadly darkness. Boats and planes sailed and flew northwards, seeking safe havens in the untouched northern hemisphere.
Overcrowding quickly became an issue in the North as the world's population sought refuge, which put a strain on resources, challenging the very essence of humanity's survival. Despite the light's beneficial effects, humanity's inherent greed continued to harm them.
However, just as humanity was nearing extinction, an incredible event occurred - a massive burst of light emanating from the well of light occurred, which illuminated the entire world. The pulse was so powerful that it not only shone over the Northern Hemisphere but stretched all the way down to the South Pole. The light emanating from the pulse forced the darkness to scatter, and Earth was reborn.
The Light had a profound effect on Earth's ecosystem, and the changes were immediate. Flowers and trees that had been withered and barren for years now bore new life, and the air smelled fresher, and the water was cleaner. Life slowly began to emerge from the once-barren wastelands of the Southern Hemisphere. Those who had fled their homes during the darkness watched in awe and amazement as the world was reborn. With the elimination of the need for fossil fuels and the development of powerful new propulsion technologies, humankind's agriculture and medical industries were revolutionized as well. Economic barriers crumbled as energy, transportation, and medical progress ran freely across borders. The light was the cornerstone of the new golden age. Humanity had achieved what was once considered impossible and was now breaking more and more bounds.
As discoveries and new advancements were made, humankind ventured into realms of physics and biology that once seemed like far-flung dreams. The constant expansion of knowledge hinted at even more revolutionary innovations and capabilities. For the first time in human history, humankind felt like they had unlocked the secrets of the universe.
Humanity has achieved wondrous feats and propelled itself into a new golden age, however, rifts of darkness began to open across the world, labyrinth like realms began to appear, and rumors of otherworldly creatures started to enter the general public consciousness. Normal weaponry wasn't capable of inflicting any damage on these monster, and it wasn't until the light was infused into ammunition that humanity was able to prevent monsters from breaking free.
This only lead to a stalemate, and as the number of rifts continued to increase, humanity was once again facing in upcoming dark age.
The world was on the brink of despair in a war against the monsters that emerged from the rifts, until emerged a group of people who could wield the light in a way that no one else had seen before. They wielded the light, channeling its power into different elemental forces that could be used to destroy the monsters.
It was a perilous journey, but they emerged victorious, slaying the core monsters of the labyrinths and closing the rifts. Their triumph marked the start of a new era. People with the ability to wield the light became known as, "Light-bearers," and those who fought against the rifts were known as "Guardians." and a plethora of different titles. And their abilities became much sought after by governments and other organizations.
With the rise of the rifts and the emergence of the monsters within, a new kind of industry emerged, one that revolved around the closing of these rifts. Over time, the industry had become a crucial part of daily life, with people across the world relying on the light-bearers to keep them safe from the dangers lurking inside the rifts.
But this was not the end of how humanity has drastically changed.....
In the remote wilderness of Scotland, there appeared a mysterious phenomenon. A rift, unlike any other, appeared out of nowhere, a living flow of light emanating from it.
At first, people were afraid of the rift, not knowing what it represented or the source that had created it. The government acted fast, sealing off the rift and setting a perimeter around it. They quarantined the area and restricted access due to fear of the unknown.
But weeks later, they began to notice strange individuals emerging from the rift unscathed, a mix of elves, dwarves, and even other humans. Some of the non-human species also had those who were light-bearers, as well as the other human not of Earth.
The world was taken aback at the sudden turn of events, and as news spread, people travelled from near and far to learn about the rift and the beings that came out of it.
Governments launched expeditions to investigate the rift and ventured beyond to document the encountered beings. Scientists examined the apparent magic that defied their understanding, and historians researched the lore associated with these beings who resided in other worlds.
As the rift remained open, it became clear that it was a portal between realms, something that humanity had dreamed about for generations. More beings began emerging from it, and eventually, humanity began to explore these realms, providing insights into otherworldly cultures and sights that were beyond anyone's imagination.
The people emerging from the rift, hailing from different worlds, brought with them knowledge of new technologies, magic, and industry that could change humanity's future forever. Over time, they began to integrate into society, fostering cultural unity, and exchanging with humanity's most brilliant minds. The government, which had once sought to quarantine the rift, had now begun to set a framework in place for the integration of the species that emerged. Scientists, historians, and entrepreneurs, working together, had envisioned a new world, a world that pooled the strengths of different worlds and cultures together. They were different, but they all believed in the grace of the light.
The rifts of light that had once been deemed as a threat was now a source of hope and wonder for humanity.
