Chapter 10: Chapter 10
"The first forty-two students that completed the obstacle course, please stay on the field! Otherwise, please leave the field as you are not moving onto the next round! Don't worry, you can have your chance to show your abilities again during the minigames at break!" Midnight announces as she stands at her podium once more.
A lot of students grumble as they leave the stage. This takes a couple of minutes as there are so many students leaving. Eventually, forty-two students are left on the field.
"Let's move onto the next event, shall we?!" Midnight says as she spins the spinner again that appeared behind her. Like before, it seems like forever it goes until it lands on a picture, "The second event is the cavalry challenge! It works as the following!"
Behind her, a huge TV pops up with three teachers holding All Might up and numbers surrounding them.
Midnight turns her attention to the TV, "This round will be divided into teams of two to four students! One of the students will be the rider while the rest are horses that support the rider to keep them off the of the ground while protecting them. The rider's job is to protect their headbands while snatching other teams'," Midnight pulls out a headband for an example, "Each headband has a certain number of points on them, and that is based on the places of your teammates. Second place's headband has 205 points, third 200, and it keeps going down by five points per place. These points are added up for the total amount for your team! Of course, there is a little twist to this."
Out of nowhere, all the lights shine on Midoriya, causing the boy to freeze in place.
"First place has a million points!"
Midoriya looks like he is about to die as all the students watch him like he is their victim.
Midnight grins, "Whoever has that is guaranteed first place! Now, you have ten minutes to make your teams, so get to it!"
The lights disappear, and the students scramble to find people they are familiar with. Satoru can't blame them one bit. What makes the scene interesting is that nobody is going to join Midoriya. They are all after Bakugo, Todoroki, and him, which he is ignoring the people around him begging. Satoru is well-aware that Midoriya is going to get plummeted with attacks constantly.
That's exactly why he is going to join Midoriya's team. Satoru wants a challenge, and that seems like the perfect challenge for him. Besides, that starts him in first place above Bakugo, and he is more than willing to take that chance.
Satoru joins the worrying Midoriya's side, "Mind if I join?"
Midoriya looks like he is about to cry. He stutters out, "Really?"
"Yeah. I like a challenge, and you seem bearable to work with. You wish is my command!" Satoru says with a smile. Midoriya returns it though lackluster compared to his.
"Thank you so much! Should we get more people?"
"This is your team, not mine. I'm just here for the ride."
Uraraka shoves her way through the crowd and stands in front of Midoriya, "Hey, Deku! Do you mind if I join your team?!"
Midoriya seems emotional that people are willing to join him. He just nods excitably, "Please! Well, with what we have, it would probably be best if we have someone on the fast side- Iida!"
Midoriya rushes his into the crowd, and Uraraka and Satoru look between each other for a moment before following him.
When they find Midoriya, they find him standing in front of Iida, who has a disappointed face.
"I can't keep relying on you to win. I must win on my own terms," Iida says.
Midoriya fidgets, "Um, okay! Good luck, Iida!"
Iida makes his way to find a team, and Midoriya starts muttering, though Satoru can't understand him for how fast he is going.
That's until a pink-haired girl suddenly interrupts him, "Hey, one-million! Let me join your team!" Pushy is all Satoru can think.
Midoriya snaps out of it, "Sure, um…"
"Hatsume Mei of the support course! I'm here to demonstrate my babies, and if I show them helping one million, I could get an internship really fast!" Satoru has to cover his mouth to keep from laughing.
"Babies?!"
"My inventions!"
"Oh! Can you show me what you have?"
"Certainly!"
Hatsume, as it turns out, fits the final piece that the team was needing. She has hover boots and a jet pack, which allows them to take to the sky.
"Hey, Gojo? How does your quirk work? Uraraka said it revolves around playing with legos but I don't know what that could mean…" Midoriya enters another muttering tangent.
Satoru claps his hands together to snap him out of it and grins, "I can manipulate particles in space. I'll explain it later, but right now, only Limitless and Red could be used here without hurting anybody. Limitless is my barrier technique. I can only bring it up around me, so I can't use it on the entire team. I can choose who and what I use it on, so I won't shove anyone under me away, but I can use it on projectiles per say. Red allows me to push everything away, but I have to be careful to not overdo it or else everybody will be smashed against a wall."
Midoriya nods, "So if you have the headbands and someone tries to reach for it, you can stop it?"
"Practically, yes."
"Practically?"
"Limitless works by dividing the space between one from me and myself nonstop, getting smaller and smaller. It would technically reach it eventually, but it takes a while."
"That sounds fascinating! Do you mind being the rider then if that's the case?"
"I have no problem with that."
Midoriya turns to Uraraka and Mei, "Can you two take the sides while I take the front?"
"Of course, one million!"
"Can do, Deku!"
Midoriya nods, determination gleaming in his eyes, "Here's the plan then: Uraraka and Hatsume, you will be wearing the hover boots. I will wear the jetpack. Uraraka, I will need you to lighten everyone so we can go into the sky to at least get away from everyone. Gojo, you will be pushing everyone away whenever necessary. Oh, wait, Gojo, do you have a limit?"
Gojo shakes his head quickly, "Nope! I can go for as long as I want!"
"Great! Let's go this!"
Everyone gets outfitted with their equipment except for Gojo.
Midnight snaps her whip to get their attention, "Your ten minutes are up! Please get into position!"
Satoru can't help but be amused by the fact that he is being carried by his teammates. It really gives the phrase 'I'm just here for the ride' a whole new meaning. Uraraka takes his right side while Hatsume takes his left. In front, Midoriya supports most of his weight while Uraraka lightens him up with her quirk.
"Try not to drop me, okay? If you do, I can catch myself to some extent, but one of you need to pick me up before then," Satoru teases.
"We won't!" Midoriya says with determination.
The field is silent for a moment as they wait for Midnight's signal.
Then.
"Start!" She screams with the snap of her whip, and chaos ensues.
Everybody immediately aims for Satoru's team. Despite Satoru being the leader, he knows that Midoriya can offer good plans, so he is in charge. While he probably would have run away, Midoriya has them wait. Perhaps too long as the ground below them becomes quicksand.
"Deku!" Uraraka says as she tries to struggle out of it.
"Now!" Midoriya says he starts the jetpack. Uraraka and Hatsume trigger their boots, and they fly out of the sand into the air, "Gojo, can you do a Red below us?!"
Satoru grins, "Yeah, no problem."
He sees what Midoriya is doing. He is pushing everyone away before they land. Clever. It makes sense now why he didn't just let Satoru use Red at the beginning.
Satoru lifts the mask from one eye so he can see as he doesn't want to over-do this and preps his attack, "Red!"
All the ants below them disperse away, giving them a safe landing point.
"DEKU!" Bakugo screams as he blasts his way towards them. Huh. He must have flew up before the attack, thus avoiding it. Satoru guesses this is legal since he isn't touching the ground.
Satoru decides to play with Bakugo for a moment by letting him get close. Once he is in range, Satoru punches Bakugo in the nose, and he flies back from the impact. Sero uses his tape to grab Bakugo and bring him back to his team.
"Oops!" Satoru jokes with a laugh.
They land and start running from the teams once more.
"That was awesome, everyone! Hatsume, your babies are amazing. Uraraka, your quirk is helping us out so much! Gojo, you're great offensively!" Midoriya encourages as he smiles back at them.
Uraraka nods, "Agreed!"
Satoru decides to keep the mask up, enough to see more but not enough to be see by the cameras. He doesn't want to reveal how beautiful his eyes are to the world yet.
They have peace for a mere moment, but it doesn't last long as a tongue tries to snatch his headband only to be stopped by Satoru's barrier. Looking in the direction, he sees Tsu and Tokoyami on the back of Shoji. Tokoyami seems to be defense while Tsu is offense. Satoru lets himself be impressed for a moment before snapping back to Midoriya's commands. He keeps the barrier around. Looking around, Satoru can see more teams approaching them.
"We're going up again!" Midoriya commands.
In a split second, they are in the air again. Satoru takes the chance to see what everyone is busy with. Todoroki's team seems to be after them along with others, though the main issue is Todoroki's team for how close they are. Bakugo's team, however, is focused on someone else. That's useful for them.
Midoriya hollers, "We're landing again! Gojo!"
"Red!"
Once again, almost everyone is forced back so they can land. This time, Todoroki's team was prepared. A huge shield covers them to prevent them from being thrown across the field despite being so close to where it happened.
Midoriya is worried, "Hatsume, can we stay in the air any longer?!"
"No! My babies can only go for a certain amount of time or else they will overheat!"
Midoriya nods as they land right in front of Todoroki's team.
Todoroki looks unamused, "We will be taking that."
Satoru decides to mess with the boy for a bit by shrugging, "I mean, you can try. No guarantees. I recommend going after a different team."
"Gojo!" Midoriya yells, freaking out as he tilts his head to look at Satoru.
Satoru smiles as he pats Midoriya's headway too happily, "It's alright. We got this!"
Satoru keeps an eye on the other team, and he notices how Iida's legs are heating up while he is talking to his team. More so than usual.
"I think Iida is about to go faster than usual," Satoru muses as he brings his barrier up. All he can hope for is that Todoroki won't break his arm trying to snatch the headband while Satoru has his barrier going.
"What?! What makes you say that-?!" Uraraka starts to ask.
However, she doesn't get to finish when in the blink of an eye, Todoroki's team zooms past them. It only happens once, as when Satoru turns his head, he sees Iida's engines suffering from it. Todoroki looks at his hand to find nothing.
"What? How?!" Todoroki growls. The teams face each other, mostly focusing on Satoru. Iida looks more frustrated with him than usual.
Satoru shrugs, "I told you that you could try. You did. Now scurry along because we plan on keeping this band."
"But how did you see Iida's attack?!"
"I could see Iida's legs heating up. I can see heat. I keep my eyes hidden for a reason. It was a predictable move that he was going to go fast. Nice speed, by the way!" Midoriya seems interested in his eyesight, but he'll explain to the boy later.
"Then we'll keep coming back until we get that headband!" Todoroki's team starts to approach once more with a plan in mind considering Yaoyorozu is creating a bunch of things.
Their luck with Bakugo seems to have run out as well as Bakugo blasts his way over to them once again, screaming nonsense that Satoru simply does not care for.
However, Satoru smirks as well. Finally, a challenge-
"AND TIME IS UP!" Present Mic announces over the speakers. Todoroki's team stops preparation and Bakugo simply plops on the floor.
Satoru's smirk disappears. It has already been fifteen minutes? It didn't feel like it. He's disappointed. He wanted a fight between them, but he guesses that will happen later.
"In first place, we have Team Gojo! Second place holds Team Todoroki! In third, we have Team Bakugo! Fourth is held by- woah, how did this happen?! Team Shinso holds fourth place!"
Midnight comes back to her podium, "We're going to be taking a break! If you are part for the four teams, you're in the final round and will need to return in an hour! Meanwhile, you can go to the stands or hang here to play the minigames! The break is for an hour, so make the most of it!"
Midoriya turns to his team, "Good job and thank you for the help- wait, where's Gojo?!"
"Um, he ran out of here as soon as he heard break and stands," Uraraka informs him.
"I guess I will have to tell him later."
Midoriya ends up getting taken by Todoroki to a remote area. Meanwhile, everyone goes to the stands for lunch and to maybe find Satoru.
It's very easy to find Satoru as they find him taking up an entire table full of sweets.
"Gojo!" Ashido exclaims as she runs over to him stuffing his face, "How did you get so many so quickly?! It's only been five minutes!" Satoru shrugs, "Can I have some?"
"Nope. Get your own," Satoru states firmly as he gobbles down his treats with the happiest expression any of his classmates have seen on him yet.
Satoru remains there the entire time, eating all the sweets he can get his hands on until the very last moment when he has to run back to the field.
