Chapter 10: Chapter 10 - Ava
Joshua quickly did a perimeter search in the sky before landing into the statue that the man told him about.
The place is peaceful and no one will suspect this innocent statue to be hiding something under it.
Since Joshua is not a guest he doesn't have the required card to open the thing but he has something better.
[Do you want to scan the statue?]
Joshua mentally said yes.
A bolt of lightning shot out from his chest and scanned the whole statue just like it previously did with Mjolnir.
Don't get Joshua wrong he can destroy this stone junk with brute strength but he was cautious that the noise will alert his target.
After a quick scan the system asked him if he wanted to activate the statue which Joshua replied yes.
Joshua thought that the statue would slide aside to reveal the secret entrance but, contrary to his expectation the thing actually went up with four beams of steel supporting each corner.
'I see sliding the statue will be stupid, considering that people will notice some weird marks on the ground,' Joshua thought.
Entering the place Joshua was in awe. How did this structure escape anyone's eyes, He meant that someone should have built this right? This place can't be created in one day.
After walking and checking every door in the hallway, Joshua felt that this place was too cheap. The 2 bathrooms were appropriate and have proper equipment but the armory is shit, barely has any weapons, hell he only saw two guns lying around like the place was already looted.
But Joshua knew that the place was not abandoned as he was hearing a faint sound of breathing in the end of the corridor which was also the final room that he didn't check.
Opening the door he was surprised how bright it was inside. It has pure white walls and multiple lights in the ceiling making the room blindingly bright.
Looking at the corner Joshua frowned when he saw something…or someone.
A Hispanic-American teenage female who has a thin but muscular build, brown eyes, and brown hair reaching mid-back.
If Joshua has to guess, the girl seems to be 14 to 16 years old.
The girl was wearing a white overall spandex and a noticeable black collar around her neck, she was cowering in the corner and seemed to be afraid of the man who suddenly entered his room.
Joshua slowly approached the girl as the girl tried to back away but she's already in the corner to do so.
"P-please don't," The girl murmured.
"Relax, I'm not gonna hurt you, what are you doing here?" Joshua said in a neutral voice as he crouched in front of the girl.
"N-no please, no more, no more!!" The girl screeches and pushes Joshua away but Joshua proves to be unmovable than she expected.
Failing at moving Joshua the girl uses Joshua's shoulders and somersaults her way behind Joshua.
Though her actions prove to be in vain as Joshua just caught her in princess carry before she can even land.
"I don't know what are you trying to do but-"
"Let go of me!" The girl said as she struggled to get out of Joshua's arms.
Joshua being a man of reason himself let the girl go without any second thoughts.
The girl was surprised by this unexpected action but using her flexible body she managed to turn and landed on all fours before acrobating 3 meters away from Joshua.
Now, the people are in standoff, looking at each other with a good 3 meters of distance between them, Joshua knows this is the time where he can talk to her.
"Like I said, I'm not here to hurt you, I just need to know where to find Himenez," Joshua calmly explained.
The girl is still on high alert, she was scared her only way out is the door on her left, but if she left this building she knew that her collar would explode and kill her. She has no choice but to calm down, bite down her fear, and calmly talk to the strangers in front of her.
But the problem is she doesn't know who Himenez is.
"I don't know," The girl simply said.
"What do you know? Do you know your name?" Someone might ask why Joshua is here and wasting his time chatting with an unknown girl. The answer is simple, Joshua already knows that the doctor is not here.
"Y-yes, I'm Ava, Ava Ayala," Ava said.
Joshua smiled to reassure her, He might be somewhat evil but not hurt anyone he saw evil.
"I see that's a nice name, it has a nice ring to it," Joshua said as he sat down and laid his back on the wall to show that he has no hostility and make Ava relax a little.
"W-who are you, where are the others?" Ava questioned, her voice is a little calm now but still not calm enough to not jump if Joshua made any sudden move.
"Others? There's no others, this place is literally desolated except for you, what are you even doing here? I assume you're not here out of your own will," Joshua said.
"Of course not! Those men in white they took me and my father, I-I don't know why but they made me wear this green gem that turns me into a tiger monster…" Ava said as Joshua can see the trauma in Ava's eyes.
Based on that little story, Ava's father should be in here too but no matter how Joshua uses his super hearing he can't sense other people.
"That green gem seems interesting, such a shame that I can't scan it, here let me take care of that," Joshua said as he quickly shot lightning from his chest and disabled Ava's collar.
Seeing that he won't get any more information from the girl Joshua decides to help her.
"How did you know about the collar?" Ava questioned while touching her neck the missing collar means that she is now free.
"It's pretty obvious really so I will not bother explaining, You're free so I'm out of here," Joshua said as he slowly walked out to the exit but then remembered, "Oh yeah, here."
Joshua passed his SHIELD encrypted phone, Ava easily caught it with a questioning look on her face.
"There's only one contact in there, I think his first name is Agent? Nevermind, the important thing is he can help you, maybe even give you a new life," Joshua said as he left the area.
He can't help Ava to find her father as he is already busy in finding Himenez so the least he can do is point her to people that can help her.
Whatever might happen to the girl he did what he could to help her.
Ava wanted to thank the white haired man but Joshua was already gone. Hugging the phone at her chest she swears she will return this favor but first she needs to find her father and the green gem that can give her power.
Ava thought with proper training she can harness the power of the gem properly.
"Thank You," Ava said in the air with a sweet voice. It might be too late but Joshua still rescues her and gives her some options for the future which clearly Joshua didn't need to do as saving her was already enough.
