Chapter 3: Plan of Action

After checking on Michael's condition, Naya had to leave to care for other patients. Wren decided to meditate to collect her thoughts and energy while she waited. Wren took deep breaths to calm herself, focusing on her thoughts and the soft ticking noise from the clock in the outside hall. "Guide me in the right direction...Help me to find the right-" *KNOCK KNOCK!* Wren was shaken from her thoughts by the knock on her door, "C-Come in?" There was a slight pause then the door slowly creaked open.

A man dressed in a doctor's coat and scrubs entered the room. "Miss, it's time to change your dressings," Wren was instantly skeptical of the man and kept on her guard. He was about average height, had a thin build, tan skin, black shoulder-length hair, a deep scar running from his forehead over towards his ear, and an odd smell. "Why are Nurse Naya or Nurse Amanda not here to change my dressings? It's normally not a doctor who does it, who are you really, what do you want?" The man quietly closed the door behind him as he entered the room.

Wren was growing increasingly nervous but the unknown man remained calm and didn't move closer to her. He had a stethoscope around his neck and was holding a clipboard that looked to have patient information on the printed papers. "I think you know who sent me Lady Wren. The Elders are not happy that you released him into the human world again. Just because you can see ghosts and spirits-UGH! I don't feel like explaining this to you it's a waste of time. Just know, it was your clan who sent me; when you come back as a vengeful ghost or whatever you Priestess' come back as, remember it was them, this wasn't my choice. I would rather not dispose of you, but hey a job is a job and I could use the money."

While this man was rambling, he began walking closer to Wren. She decided to try and figure out if this man was someone she had met before. "What do you mean to let him out? The clan? Haruki was the one who attacked me. I located him wandering about in our world and I tried to send him back but my energy was depleted. Why would the Elders or my Clan as you put it, send a small little thing like you to quiet me anyways?" Wren smirked as if she was trying to purposely provoke the man.

He slyly grinned in response. "Lady Wren, do you think you're that untouchable? Just because you're affiliated with the clan, the Elders, and in the Shadow Unit, doesn't give you the right to do as you please." He took a few steps closer to the bed, "If you do not follow the rules there will always be punishment. That is why we were banded together to start with. You need to be made an example of, for the other young members of the clan. You have achieved such a high level and control of your spiritual and nature energy at such a young age. Why bother with lying and sneaking about when you have so many-" *SMACK!*

Wren reached for the closest object to throw at the man, which happened to be a remote. The remote hit his face with a dull smack and immediately left a red mark. Wren hit the call button next to her bed just as she threw the remote, resulting in a nurse coming quickly into the room after the remote hit the man's head. "Miss Wren is something- excuse me sir, who are you? Miss Wren is in no condition for visitors. Also, please make sure you check in with our staff at the front counter to be sure you have the proper credentials, D-Doctor...?"

The man was flustered and left the room still holding his face. The nurse was standing by the door with a confused look on her face, "Thank you, nurse. He was a real pain in my side." The nurse turned to Wren and smiled. "It's not a problem Miss. Oh, I also came to inform you that Mr. Michael is stable and will be released the same day as you. Unfortunately, neither of you can leave the bed for long so if you need to talk feel free to use the hospital phone. He is in room 427. Is there anything else I can get for you?" "No thank you. I appreciate your help nurse...um" Wren trailed off, realizing she didn't know the nurse's name.

"Oh, pardon my manners, you can call me Nurse Wendy. I'm Nurse Naya's fill-in while she tends to other patients," She smiled sweetly and left the room after Wren nodded. Once Nurse Wendy left the room, Wren immediately picked up the phone and called Michael. "Uh-Hello? Who is this?" Wren rolled her eyes, "It's me, Michael. Nurse Wendy told me what room you were in. Are you doing fine? What happened?" She did not feel like making small talk but she wasn't sure if the conversations were being monitored.

"I'm doing well Lady Wren. They did not find much difficulty with my injuries so they patched me up and said I could leave with you tomorrow morning." "...Okay Michael. Please be wary of our upcoming lecture. We wouldn't do well to miss Uncle's information." Unbeknownst to the woman who was listening in, Michael and Wren were now talking in code. The lady had a look of confusion and anger all over her face. The two continued talking for a few more minutes then hung up the call. "Well, that call was useless!" The lady listening to their conversation stormed out of the small office and returned to her normal duties and patients.

Wren smiled after talking with Michael. He was someone who always made her feel better even if she was still far from being happy, 'What would I do without that man...' she thought to herself. The next few days would be busy for them once they were at the Temple. She made a quick plan but wanted to flesh it out more and get the other's opinions. She needed to speak with the Clan Head to see if they believed it was her fault or not. She would never let Haruki out on purpose, because of his intense bloodlust and unkempt nature energy. "Who was that "Doctor" guy and why the heck did he blame me? Hm, why did collecting simple intel have to turn into such a nightmare?" She spoke to herself and leaned over in bed to reach her small tray of food from the side table.

"They might have fixed the problems with our freshwater sources but *BLEH*, couldn't they have saved some recipes or found something more edible? Someone from before the disaster should know how to forage. There are plenty of plants and small animals around..." She scrunched her nose and put the lid back on her food. 'The war has been over for a few years now,' she thought to herself, 'Why don't we have better food?' As she continued to grumble about her hospital food, she heard someone talking in a hushed tone outside her door.
