Chapter 11: (11) Vousenne [1]

Veren's divinity was stuck in the peak of Level 8, but he wasn't very worried about it.

Having level 9 divinity till the age of 12 was natural in this world. Even the protagonist had level 9 divinity till the age of 12.

The only reason Veren's holy divinity grew at such a rapid rate was due to the dark divinity being purer than the other.

The weaker divinity was motivated to grow due to the stronger divinity – which would be simpler to understand.

'Vousenne....If it proceeds as per the novel, she just kills a few maids after going crazy...but if by any chance she aims for my life, I wouldn't stand a chance against her spirit queen.'

To be on the safe side, Veren just wanted to stay away from the mansion. Which was impossible without the permission of his father.

They wouldn't allow Veren to step out just yet and more especially so when there wasn't any good reason to.

Gathering information from the maids, he knew that Vousenne's health had started to decline rapidly just recently. The servants of the house were very obedient to Veren. Which was the only influence he had here.

'I wonder if they will snitch all my actions to the Duke later on...' Still, Veren didn't trust these servants with everything.

"What shall I do now..."

.....

'It hurts....my body doesn't listen to me at all. It feels like I'm being boiled alive...why?'

Vousenne, who was unable to leave the bed for a whole day, felt stiff all over.

What worried her the most was the fact that no one tried helping her. She couldn't move a finger! How was she supposed to eat and go about her private life?

'Hey...help me, isn't this happening due to you...? Do something about it...!' Vousenne turned her indignation towards the queen of water spirits.

['.....']

That's right. The disease Vousenne suffered from was called spiritual dysfunction. Where a stronger spirit signs a contract with a weaker or no-affinity being.

People suffering from this disease die without any exception.

Vousenne gathered all her strength to open her eyes, 'I have to eat something...or else I will die from hunger before this cursed disease.'

As light entered her eyes, Vousenne's heart jumped seeing the creepy black mask beside her. It didn't take her long to understand who it was, but she couldn't even speak or scream in her condition.

'Am I going to die....? Why...? I definitely survived in the novel, so why is it like this in reality? No...I don't want it to end so abruptly, please...'

However, what Vousenne expected didn't come to pass. Veren just sat on a chair beside her blankly.

Veren mused to himself: 'She doesn't die from starvation only due to the doctor who will appear soon. This would mean the incident - 'a spark left behind by a god' - will start soon.'

While reading the novel, Veren liked Vousenne's backstory quite a lot. He could say it to be one of the best moments in the novel too, at least to him.

Nevertheless, Veren didn't want to help, due to encountering something that could trigger his trauma. He began loathing the notion of holding in his vomit every time.

The feeling was worse than when a person vomited for the first time after drinking heavy alcohol.

"....."

So, what was Veren doing here? It was to be affected by what would start Vousenne's nightmare.

The incident starts at night, hence Veren had a general idea of when he should visit Vousenne.

'But...today isn't the day, seeing the doctor has yet to appear.'

Veren got up to leave, only to freeze seeing Vousenne's eyes.

After Vousenne calmed down, she understood that Veren hadn't come with any bad intentions at the least. It was thanks to the spirit.

['He seems worried...']

'About me?'

['I don't know....']

The queen spirit could look into people's minds, but that didn't mean she could read their thoughts. It was more like inspecting their mindset or soul.

Vousenne couldn't help but look at Veren with a pleading and expectant gaze, but his reaction was strange.

Veren's eyes were squinted into a slit as if he was trying to hold something in.

'I will gauge those eyes out...!' Violent thoughts rose within him, Veren used his holy divinity to cleanse his mind, before he actually did the deed.

Veren had experienced such instances many times, where the dark divinity tried to take over his mind and body.

'I have no idea what I would do if I'm under its influence. Still...why the hell does she have to make the same expression as her? I feel like punching her even without being affected by dark divinity...'

The image of his sister, after he was released from jail, played out in his head.

"Please.....Help....I...." Vousenne tried to force herself to speak, seeing Veren standing in one place.

".....sigh...."

Veren moved towards Vousenne's table, 'Why is it always so complicated? If only I was more ruthless, more twisted enough to kill people just cause they were an eyesore....it would have been so easy...'

'I wouldn't have bothered if someone killed her before me, I'm confident in analyzing myself. So I do think the path of neutrality suits me very well...Why does she have to make me remember my sister though....'

"...." Remembering how his sister sent him letters till the last moment, he felt his mind a little dizzy.

"Sigh...."

Veren easily made Vousenne half-sit on the bed. With his current strength, he could easily punch holes into the thick walls around him.

Veren fed Vousenne with a spoon while closing his eyes to not look at her. Thankfully, his senses grew tremendously in the past, allowing him to do such an act with some difficulty.

'...I should have focused on training with my senses too.' Veren thought to himself.

Vousenne's body couldn't help but quiver both due to happiness and weakness. She glanced at Veren, only to find him with his eyes closed.

'What is with him....he didn't care about me throughout the whole past year, but now he is helping for no reason...' Vousenne opened her mouth with much difficulty and ate the food delivered to her.

Silence spread across the room, not even the sound of their breathing was audible anymore.

Strangely, when Vousenne looked at Veren again, he seemed to be looking out of the window.
