Chapter 21: The Chat

They both quietly walked out to the balcony. They reached a secluded spot where nobody could hear them. It was so quiet that they could hear the crickets.

"Belle, I'm sorry"

"Jay, I'm sorry"

They both said at the same time. Staring at each other they both laughed.

"Belle, it's been a while. I missed you. I'm sorry. I really am sorry. I drove you away. I didn't know what happened to you until Shiela told me. I shouldn't have expressed my feelings to you so quickly. I should have waited until you are ready. I really am sorry."

"Jay, it's not your fault. I had to come back. It was time. I'm also sorry I didn't tell you what happened. I was lost in your embrace that I didn't want it to end but I realised I wasn't ready. To be honest there are times I miss spending with you but I'm still not ready. I want to get back on track. I need to find myself again. It's been 7 years where I was a we but now I'm still adjusting to become just me."

"I understand. I will be waiting for you. When you are ready, my heart is open to you."

"No, Jay. I don't want you doing that. I don't want you to wait for me. You need to open your heart out to someone else. I don't know when I'll be ready. I need to be fair to you and I need you to understand. I'm sorry but I can't let you do that to yourself."

At that moment, Jay felt like his heart was shattered. He knew and understood what Belle had said. Deep in his heart, he knew he couldn't let her go. He loved her for who she is and how she put people before herself. He would watch her from the side and be there for her when she needed him. He decided that he will wait for her.

"Jay, let's be friends again." Belle said while putting out her hand.

"Okay. Friends. But as a friend, can I have this first dance?". Jay said as the music started playing.

He grabbed her hand and swirled Belle around. She chuckled and laughed. It been a while since she felt this way. Dancing away in each other's embrace, they both decided to enjoy that moment together.

But little did they know, they were being watched. At a corner, a pair of gleaming eyes were staring at them full of jealousy.
