Knowing how much trouble she could get into if she let her father question Kim Ji-hun, Jang Ma-Ri immediately tried to stop him.

"Dad, please don't meet Ji-hun, I don't want our relationship to turn any sourer. He is already annoyed that I mentioned something from the past." 

Seeing how his daughter looked like she either had something to hide from him, or something to protect against him, Jang Deok-Hwa looked even more suspicious about the whole matter, but he did not insist on going after Kim Ji-hun.

Though he was very curious and interested in the matter, he tried not to show it. But given from his expertise, he highly suspected that his daughter might actually be the one lying.

Why would someone like Kim Ji-hun date her in the past and deny now that something like that never happened?

That was absurd.
