Chapter 68: Intentional Pretense, Pacific Elypsian, and Bright Smiles

"Where are you taking me, old mister?" I asked Ares as we walked through the dark, desolate forest.

The sun had set a while back, and the moon was yet to come out fully from its hide, so I was fully dependent on Ares' nocturnal vision to cross the woods.

Actually, if I tried I could have seen clearly and easily too. But for some reason, I wanted to depend on him.

My hand was intertwined in Ares' hand as he helped me to walk. Occasionally I would act like tripping on some non-existent twig or leave or rock, and Ares would prevent me from falling by wrapping his strong arm around my waist, pulling me to his chest. I would shiver from the tingles his hot touch gave me. And when he would help me regain my balance, I would act like falling again after a couple of minutes.

I think he noticed, judging by the twitch of his lips and the sheen of amusement in his light eyes, but he did not say anything.

Maybe he was enjoying my childishness as well.
