Chapter 2: Corpse Walkers

Ver was shocked at first, how could people walk on air, then he remembered about the stories his parents told him.

Mages. Mages were the highest existence one could achieve, below the powerful royal families of course. They are powerful, they can destroy whole towns, teleport, reanimate bodies, summon magical creatures, if you can think, a mage can definitely do it. However, getting that power is hard, mastering it, harder still. In order to gain these powers, there are multiple ways. A person can receive a legacy, which forcefully unlocks their mana, have enough talent to naturally feel mana, or the rarest, to be born with mana. Of course that is one in centuries. As Ver was thinking about magic and how he craved it, the robed figures started to speak.

"How did it feel, to kill thousands of innocent people..." One said in a mocking voice. Sounding quite like a young man.

"Innocent,.... innocent, ha, this is their punishment for following a dirty damned king, he knew the consequences, but he still did it...." He laughed, sounding like an old, but experienced man.

"So what now, are we going to leave the bodies here, burn them, perhaps..."

When Ver heard that, he was terrified, he knew if that they decided to burn the battlefield, he could not escape, he could try to run. They would, however, instantly kill him.

"No.. No..No, no need to be so hasty, we might as make use of this opportunity, I will cast the summon Corpse Walker Spell, and let it roam. It will get rid of any survivors and will collect death essence...."

"But master, the Hebron mages will arrive soon, they will not miss that an army has gone missing..."

"You are correct, so I will tell it to leave as soon as it senses any magic, that way, we get our reward and safe guard our identitys...."

After he said that, he spoke in a mysterious and powerful language, Ver could feel his very being gripped by fear. It was natural, his body and soul feared higher existences. It is a miracle he has not been knocked out, he is only a mortal in the presence of the supernatural.

As soon as he quit chanting, a black hole appeared in the middle of the corpse ridden field. Then a figure rushed out. It looked human shaped, but its skin was hanging off, its nails were sharp, it had black, rotten skin, its guts were hanging slightly. And its bright red eyes were flashing in excitement at its meal.

After giving his orders the robed figures flew away faster than Ver could see. Then the feast began. The monster started eating anything it could get its hands on. Never stopping, never satisfied. It was looking for live flesh. Mindless undead always craved for the living, their vitality and heart beat.

Ver knew as soon as he made a run for safety, it will chase him. He knew, due to its magical nature, it will be faster and stronger than him. So he must be prepared.

Thinking quickly, as the walker will slowly sniff him out, started gathering the supplies, any thing that will give him a slight chance survival.

He wished himself luck, and hoped his mom is also, then he dashed out of the bodies.

The walker turned its head, its eyes beaming with joy, it found its main dish.
