Chapter 1: Puppetry

After one fateful night, when the stars were shining brighter than they ever had before, children were found out with unimaginable powers. They just developed them. At first, it was only a few who had them, but then everyone in the new generation started developing one.

Blue was one of these fated children. He was part of the generation after the one who developed powers. (Meaning his parents were the first ones with powers. Second generation.) His parents went to the government to get his powers confirmed, and to get the danger test.

The government knew what even parents parents didn't know about their kid, since this was a common scenario by now. However, they didn't know everything. After asking the parents to step out, the child's spit was taken to a lab. When it reached the lab, test would be taken on the sample. Simple as it may sound, it actually took a while to analyze a sample, and to test a gene's true nature.

Based on the outcome, the government could tell if a child might be a threat to civilization. There were four levels of which the children were classified into. Green, yellow, red, and White. Getting worse in danger for that order. However, there was a major flaw to these tests: it only measured the base threat, not the growth potential. A red child would grow into a White one, while a Yellow had the ability to grow into a Red and a White. Green children didn't really have the threat of growth though.

When the results got back, they were shown only to the child, their parents, and the administrator of the test to keep the child from not being targeted. Of course, this was only if there was no threat to be measured. If there was, there would be actions taken. Worst case scenario, the child would end up dead. Most Reds got taken by the government and raised in an abandoned area, while yellows were just taken from their parents and put into the army. Whites were killed on the spot.

However, these tests were not perfect. All it could tell was what the danger level. If the danger was in the yellow or higher, the government would take custody of the child and develop it to reduce risk. You see, besides the basic abilities, there is always hidden things to find.

What this paper showed for Blue was one word, "Green." He was given back to his parents without any hassle, because he couldn't become a problem based on previous tests.

Another thing to mention is that there is actually an in-depth "skill tree" that only power holders themselves can see. It's not really tangible, but everyone who has a power has one. By making development in their powers. Take a water controller to further the example, if they grew up learning to move water, they would get a spot highlighted on their tree. Then, they would gain whatever that highlighted spot was for.

There was this obvious occurrence where the child couldn't speak or show the parent what their skill tree development was. I mean a baby is a baby. That is why the government would have to later make mandatory checkups after every few years. Blue was the one who reminded the government of this after his extraordinary performance later on in the years.
