Chapter 29: [Bonus chapter] Cheating?

"Que. Que Mo Hendricks, it's you." Kevin whispered in a sullen voice which had gotten deeper over the years as if confirming his sight. It sounds so much different compared to times they'd spoken over the phone.

Que stood up slowly in a daze, not quite believing her eyes.

"You..."

It is official. Her heart has stopped functioning, apart from pumping blood that is. Even that isn't guaranteed as it still somehow manage to skip several beats as well.

He is back. Just as he had said. And so is her wounded heart.

Memories from six years back flashed through her brain and they were suddenly back at the airport on the day of his depart. They were standing at a distance hidden in the crowds so his family members, especially his grandma that had came to see him off wouldn't see them.

She was trying so hard to rein back her tears, trying to act tough in front of him so he wouldn't need to worry about her. Just like now.

She was hurting, badly hoping he would stay with her but she knew that was selfish and couldn't bring herself to tell him that. So they stood there staring at each other each controlling their emotions, no words were spoken. She could tell he was hurting as well and couldn't bring herself to look at his face.

She sniffed and buried her face underneath her face cap and wipe the stubborn tears at the corners of her eyes. That small gesture didn't went unnoticed by him and she was wrapped in warm hug, his arms tightened around her as if that would stop her from hurting.

He was cute and a little bit clumsy back then, and his face held traces of boyish features, unlike the matured version of him standing before her now.

She wiped her tears and beamed up at him, plastering a fake smile on her face but of course he saw right through at her act and that was how they ended up having their first, cringe inducing kiss.

Kevin looked to the left side of the road, then right, then glanced at her from head to toe with knitted brows, his face twisting as his gaze wandered back to her face. A warm smile crept up his face which wasn't doing her heart any good and matter how he tried to fake it, his eyes held a pained look which didn't skip her eyes.

"I never thought I'd ever see you again." he muttered to himself.

She was snapped out of her thoughts and cleared her throat, slightly wincing at the memory of their kiss. Her face heated up a little. This is the first time she is seeing him after that, she had no idea how to deal with this. She'd never imagine the next time they'd meet would be after their break up.

She tried to come up with something, anything that would distract her from her chaotic thoughts.

"Oh," she grimaced. Oh? Oh!? What in the world is "oh?" Is that all she could say? Did her brain stop functioning along with her heart? She racked her brain for something to say quickly to avoid looking like an idiot.

A homeless idiot.

"You've.... Returned." She shrunk back subconsciously. Dear Lord, this is so embarrassing. She didn't want anyone to see her like this. Especially not him.

"Mm. I returned two weeks ago, I told you that right? I...oh Que," he sighed hastening towards her. She was lucky enough and acted fast, raising her hands and moved back as he stepped forward preventing him from engulfing her in a hug.

"Stop...Kevin."

"I...ahem," he paused mild halt his hand hanging in the air. "Sorry about that. I... couldn't... Are you alright?" he dropped the hand back awkwardly.

"It's....It's okay. Just.....don't do that." She nodded, one arm hugging her chest while the other hanged limply by her side.

"I see. I went to your house but jiji told me you've moved out. She refused to give me your address. I couldn't blame her though. I understand where she's coming from." he sigh.

Que only hummed in reply looking at him. The longer she stared at him the more complicated her emotions got, if they could given her previous state and she could feel her eyes moistening.

No, not now. Not again.

His strong musky cologne assaulted her which had her scrunching up her nose. Too strong, not as good as coffee and cream.

Wait, why is she thinking about coffee and cream?

Coffee and cream!

She glanced around for any signs of the devil. This is not good. Her stomach twisted as she remembered her current situation. She is supposed to be married and Zeus could be here any moment. Why did this felt as if she was cheating? The marriage was only a sham, so she could see other people right?

Wrong.

Given the temper he have, he'd throw a tantrum when he caught her with her ex and kick her out. She has no where else to go, and Kevin, well he'll just strangle him to death. Or burn him alive.

"I know you have hate me..."

"Listen, i..I've got to go. I'm sorry."

"Wait.. Let me atleast treat you to a drink."

But no, she was not listening. All that's going on in her head is how to escape before Zeus got back. She walked passed their car in the direction he went before remembering his command. He had specifically told her to wait here. It wouldn't do her any good to wander about after what happened last night, going after him was out of the question since she had no idea where he went.

She turned back and almost knocked into Kevin who was hot on her heels. Side stepping around him, she sped into the trees where she had sat. It was a small park with not so many trees beside the road. She would see him from here, it wouldn't be considered wandering around right?

"Stop following me!" she yelled when she heard footsteps behind her.

"Please," she whispered dashing into the cluster of trees. Luckily the footsteps stopped. She found a tree not too deep into the park where she could see their car and slumped to the ground, hugging her knees.

She closed her eyes and counted one to ten, clearing her mind. She refused to think about anything, it is too much for her brain and heart to take. She worry about this later. All she needed to do now is wait for Zeus to come back and to return home.

She must've counted to 250 when she got tired of waiting and glanced up. Kevin was no where to be found. He must've gotten tired and left, or for whatever reason.

It would be best for them both if they never crossed paths again. She don't know how to deal with this.

She returned to the car and decided to wait inside this time. What is taking him so long? He'd been gone for hours, she needed food, she's hungry for Pete's sake.

The interior of the car was cool which was relaxing, blocking out the scorching sun. Why hadn't she thought of that before? Had she done that earlier, she wouldn't have run into Kevin.

She hugged her stomach and waited wishing she had brought her wallet. She could have bought something during the time she spent waiting. Resting her head against the dashboard, she switched on the radio to distract her from her growling stomach. Some part of her is seriously regretting not taking Kevin's offer.

Who knew if that devil had forgotten about her. She might have touched the wrong panel and a loud banging music blast from the speakers. Scared out of her wits, she fumbled with the buttons, where is the damn switch!

She had no idea what happened and the next thing she knew, a large hand with long fingers appeared and the music went off.

"Keep your hands off. Unless you are willing to sell yourself, your salaries for five years combined wouldn't be enough to repair my car." Zeus sat in the driver's seat shutting the door after him.

"You took your sweet time." she muttered looking outside ignoring his remark. Even if he heard, he ignored her as well and started the engine. Had she added five more minutes outside he would've caught her. Had he seen when she returned? Her brows knitted in thoughts when a warm object was placed on her lap.

She glanced at the brown bag then at him but he looking straight ahead, his eyes on the road. She opened the bag and her brows knitted even more.

This...

A takeaway and a can of soda?

Had he gone all this while just to buy food for her? Her stomach growled again and she shoved all thought aside and dug in.

Food is always first.

As her stomach becomes heavy and warm with food, so as her heart. Maybe he is indeed a tiny bit considerate.

This guy is the most confusing creature she've ever met. One time he is cold and distant, the next time he is warm. But nonetheless, a small smile graced her lips.

She unwrapped the last sandwich and was about to take a bite when she realised he had only brought back one bag. What about him? Had he eaten? Her eyes darted between the sandwich in her hand and him. After a great battle, she made a huge sacrifice and extended the sandwich towards him.

"Here, have some as well." She smiled, it's all right, your stars would keep shining. Your stars would keep shining.

He took his eyes briefly off the road and glanced at the sandwich then resumed his driving ignoring her.

"You can have it, I didn't bite." Take it, damn it. It's taking all of her will power to share her food with him.

"Eat up, I'm not hungry." He pushed the sandwich back to her. Que shrugged, it was hard for her anyways.

"You know you haven't completed your push ups right? You'll finish that once we return." She choked on the food in her mouth.
