Chapter 12: Paradise Island pt.3

"I think it would be better if you come with me," Roman said as he got on the boat.

"And spend days on a trip I can end within a day? No thanks." Howard said, "Unlike you, I am not afraid of flying and it's much quicker this way."

"Sigh! I can't help but have a bad feeling about this." Roman said, "But you're the boss."

"Stop jinxing me, idiot." Howard reprimanded as Roman laughed raising his hands.

"It's just a joke."

Howard who originally died in a plane crash didn't quite appreciate such jokes. If it wasn't for his healing factor, Howard was sure he would never even be gutsy enough to touch a plane in his life.

"Fuck off!"

Roman left early on as he went by boat as Howard prepared to leave on his plane. Settling things with the researchers, scientists, and workers, which were just basic villain threats about harming their family if they try and run away, or in any way compromise the research, told in a cutesy way. He left the Island forbidding anyone from going out till he gets back.

For the first hour, the ride was completely fine. The weather was decent, the transmission cleared that everything was okay and the plane was stable and fast enough. Nine months ago, they released their new model specially designed for the military and it attracted the attention of the allies and nonetheless earned him a specific contract with the military including that of allied countries as well. So besides the military, he was the only one in the whole world who currently owned the fastest plane in the world.

Just as he was flying over the vast empty ocean, the transmitter suddenly started making weird noises. He had not flown over this area before and was taking another route to reach London as quickly as he could, so he wasn't sure what was going on.

He tried contacting through the transmitter but it was dead. The compasses started going crazy, just turning around in circles swinging left and right and even the fuel gauzes were going crazy. If that wasn't enough suddenly the clouds started turning darker and before long it was all thunderstorms and rain.

"I am going to kill that son of a bitch!" He cursed Roman for jinxing him even as a joke trying to maneuver the plane and keep it as steady as possible. The rain hit all over his face as the strong wind swayed the plane around. He wasn't even sure which direction he was headed to as all he thought was about reaching land. After all, even if he didn't die getting stranded in the middle of the ocean with nowhere to go wasn't the best idea.

He kept flying through the rough conditions finally making it out of the storm. Panting, Howard finally breathed a sigh of relief never feeling so tired and stressed like today in a long while. As things were just getting normal he suddenly entered a foggy zone which he couldn't see before.

"God, what now?" Howard looked around as he heard a couple of gunshots here and there but there was nothing he could see due to the fog.

'Did I enter a battlefield?' He pondered a bit worried and not sure where he even was, the transmitter was down like before and there was no way to know in which part of the world he was lost in. And as if things couldn't get worse the plane's engine began rattling as finally, the fuel indicator bleeped warning about an empty tank as his plane began diving straight down.

Howard tried maintaining his pace as he tried to hover with control when within a blink of an eye he suddenly got out of the fog as if it was never there. It was sunny and bright and there was an Island right in front of him. With a couple of houses he could see from the distance he was sure the place was civilized by people but he couldn't understand what was going on. He turned around to see no traces of the fog.

Not trying to dwell with mysteries as he had bigger trouble to deal with right now. He calculated the risk and figure he could land the plane on the beach of the island as long as he maintained a proper balance without much damage to neither the plane nor him.

But as if anything went right today, another plane appeared out of nowhere, smoking as it surely had been shot at. It came crashing directly towards Howard's plane tearing off the right-wing of his plane as it dived toward the water.

"Fuck!" Howard cursed as before he could even jump off the plane, the plane spiraled away out of his control crashing into the cliff before it came down hitting the water near the beach.

Howard felt blind in one of his eyes and the other one was still a bit blurry. A figure suddenly jumped near him, from the way her body looked Howard was sure that the figure was a female. The woman tore and bent things near him, pulling him out with ease as she carried him away and laid him on the beach.

"It's going to be okay! Stay calm." The sweet voice entered his ears as the woman stood up and began running into the water again, "There's another one, so stay put till I come back."

Figuring she was talking about the guy in the plane that crashed next to him, Howard closed his eyes heavily breathing. Howard slowly felt his arms again as he pulled out the large piece of glass stuck in one of his eyes.

Howard as he was recovering wanted to just die at the moment. He felt that life was pointless if he was going to carry on like this or maybe it was just something about flying which wasn't meant for him. He was a good pilot, hell he might be even considered one of the best in this era but there was always an external factor that lead towards his demise. If not for his healing factor, he was surely a dead man right now.

As Howard was having a mid-life crisis, the woman pulled the other man out of the water laying him on the beach as well. The man slowly opened his eyes coughing and panting, as he had nearly drowned.

"Wow!" he muttered as he saw the woman for the first time.

"You're a man as well." The woman said as she glanced over at Howard, "We need to help him."

The guy stood up as he looked towards Howard's direction as well but before he could go he saw something that caught his eye as he caught the girl's hand. The girl noticed the unusualness as well, as she saw small boats and a large ship heading towards their way.

"Germans!"

"Germans?" The girl asked not looking sure of what the guy was talking about.

"We need to leave." The man said, "Those are real bad guys and wouldn't hesitate a second before they kill us, so let's leave."

"What about him?" The girl asked,

"His neck is twisted the other way around." The man said shaking his head, "Even if he's breathing I am not sure he'll survive this."

"Diana!" Suddenly women in horses and armors gathered as the one in lead spoke, "Get away from her, now!"

The woman glanced over at the ships with a frown on her face as she ordered, "Ready your bows!"

The women around her immediately followed through as they prepared their fire arrows ready to shoot at any moment.

"They have guns right?" The man asked Diana.

"Fire!"

"Fire!"
