Chapter 3: Sumire Karaage Rolls
On the night that his family decided to adopt Skye, Fanny returned to his room and extracted the second skill. However, the result was somewhat unsatisfactory.
The second skill was like the difference between heaven and earth compared to 'Ars Magna.' This made Fanny understand that this system's definition of a 'skill' was extremely broad.

Fanny almost thought that his eyes weren't working properly when he saw the skill he had extracted. He never expected a cooking skill of all things to come from the system. He felt like he had seen everything there was to see in this world. He resisted his overwhelming urge to uninstall this broken system—though it wasn't like he knew how to uninstall it.
He secretly tested the skill after he calmed down and found that it wasn't as useless as he thought. Unlike 'Ars Magna,' he could use the skill 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' immediately after extracting it, and there were two ways to do so.
The first was to go buy the ingredients himself and follow the recipe.
The second was to summon it out of thin air. That's right, there was no need for any raw materials or kitchen tools. He could use the skill to directly produce fried chicken wraps out of thin air within a meter of him, along with its packaging.
Well, at least I wouldn't have to worry about starving if I get into unexpected situations in the future.
In any case, whether making it from scratch or summoning it out of nowhere, he observed that the progress bar in his mind increased little by little every time he used the skill. The increase was almost imperceptible, but it was at least faster than the natural progression. It made him certain that the progress bar worked akin to an experience bar that tracks the usage of skills in addition to the passage of time.
The experience gained from 'Sumire Karaage Roll' usage was pitiful, but it still gave him hope.
From that day on, Fanny studied these two skills on a daily basis. He tried to reproduce the scene when he summoned Skye through 'Ars Magna' that night.
From Loki being a little girl to Hulk having a good temper, Fanny slowly lowered the scope of his thought. He finally settled for getting a strand of hair to float in the air, and he succeeded in using 'Ars Magna' again after focusing for a good minute.
Although his ability was terrifyingly weak, Fanny was happy enough to almost jump in joy. The current situation was already a massive improvement compared to the past seven years. Moreover, he gained a direction for his future actions; that is, to continue using his skills, increase his experience, and extract another skill.
After a few tests, he also found a few key points to use 'Ars Magna.' First, his mind had to be focused, with little to no distraction. Second, vocalizing his wish could help increase his success rate: because spoken words could clarify and give more concrete form to the thought in his mind. For example, it took him about a minute of pure concentration to make a strand of hair float, but with a spoken 'command,' it only took three seconds.
Unfortunately, the experience gained from using 'Ars Magna' was rather pitiful as well. Floating a hair with 'Ars Magna' gave him even less experience than summoning 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.' This made him wonder why the incident with Skye had increased his experience by so much—through his calculation, the incident increased his experience by around five years' worth of natural growth.
Using 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' would allow him to accrue substantial experience, but Fanny didn't dare to use it recklessly. It would be fine if he bought the ingredients and followed the recipe, but summoning them out of thin air was inherently problematic, especially in a large amount. He wouldn't be able to easily hide or dispose of them, and it would be the end if Hydra or SHIELD caught the scent of his ability.
There was also the problem of stamina consumption. Fanny found that 'Ars Magna' would make him dizzy after prolonged use, which didn't happen with 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.' As a result, his proficiency in using 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' progressed way faster than 'Ars Magna.' Initially, he would need about ten seconds to summon one 'Sumire Karaage Rolls,' but right now, eight years later, he only needed one second to summon two. His range also improved to five meters. He was certain that no one in this world could make Karaage roll faster than him.
Within eight hours of a work day, assuming Fanny continuously produced the 'Sumire Karaage Rolls," he would be able to make over fifty thousand of them. Laws of physics, conservation of mass, scientific reasoning—they all went out of the window against Fanny's magical 'Sumire Karaage Rolls.'
Eight years had passed, but Fanny still hadn't been able to extract the third skill. It wasn't that he hadn't worked hard enough; it's just that the experience gained through 'Sumire Karaage Rolls' was too minuscule, especially since he couldn't just randomly produce a massive amount of it anywhere. Nevertheless, his constant effort wasn't in vain. At last, the experience bar was almost full, and it wouldn't be long before he could extract his third skill.
This also puts into perspective just how much experience he had gained from the first time he successfully used 'Ars Magna.'
This third skill would determine Fanny's future. If it was also useless in combat, he would have to rely on his knowledge of the Marvel world to increase his strength.
Snapping back to reality once more, Fanny looked at the silent Skye in front of him and sighed, "Let's go to the shop first. I will tell you what happened just now!"
Skye silently started the car and drove.
The shop that Fanny mentioned was a snack shop that Skye helped him open after she graduated high school two years ago. The shop was not big, but it was located on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Even though the location was a little remote, it was still a rarity.
Arriving at the high-rise jungle of Manhattan, a particular building caught Fanny's eyes: the iconic Stark Tower, a constant reminder of what kind of world he was in.
One year. In just one year, that sassy playboy would usher in a new era.
When they arrived at the shop, Fanny was greeted by a door sign saying, "Opens from Time to Time." He looked helplessly at Skye, that acted innocent beside him, and took it off.
"Hey, Fanny, Skye, you are finally here."
"I have been waiting for you for a while. Open the door quickly!"
Just as they arrived, a group of people came out of nowhere and greeted them excitedly. Then they rushed to the door of the shop and consciously lined up to wait for the door to open.
"Fanny, you are half an hour late today." The man closest to the door complained to him.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Doke. I have something to do at school today!" Fanny greeted him with a smile. Although it's a snack shop, it only sold one type of food, the same one he had made for eight years.
"Alright, alright, stop chatting. I'm starving to death," One of the people in the back of the team shouted unhappily at Fanny's nonchalant attitude. Then, he urged with anticipation, "Fanny, I have to say, you'd be better off stop going to school. We will invest in making your chicken roll into a national chain. I guarantee that it will be popular across America."
"Yes, yes, I will definitely invest in you."
The crowd in the queue echoed, impatience brimming in their faces. Skye silently rolled her eyes; she was already used to this kind of situation. However, she had to admit that the fried chicken wraps Fanny made were the most delicious food she had ever eaten.
"Alright, alright. I already said that this is just a hobby. I have other dreams."
Fanny shook his head helplessly. He entered the shop and began preparing the ingredients. Although the sign said that the shop was only open "time to time," he still came almost every weekend to practice his skill. Thus, he gained quite a few loyal customers.
