Chapter 94: Soul Offer

"Got any new goods?"

Beeman also gave up on the matter that shouldn't have concerned them at their level and began to take out demon-hunting weapons from the briefcase.

"This is holy water collected from The River of Jordan."

"These are the Screech Beetles. Their screams can make demons collapse."

"This is the Dragon's Breath you asked for last time."

"The Dragon's Breath? Didn't you say you couldn't get your hands on one again?" Constantine, now fully awake, exclaimed with some surprise.

But Beeman just shrugged smugly, a satisfied smile creeping onto his face, feeling proud and self-satisfied.

"I happen to know someone who knows someone, so... you know."

After saying that, Beeman solemnly handed Constantine a cylindrical object wrapped in newspaper. Constantine took it and immediately unwrapped the newspaper, intending to test out the Dragon's Breath he had longed for.

However, when his gaze inadvertently fell on the newspaper wrapping the Dragon's Breath, he froze in place, his entire being fixated on it. Because on that crumpled newspaper was a figure he would never forget in his lifetime.

"Beeman, do you know who this is?"

Without hesitation, Constantine set down the dragon's breath he was holding and smoothed out the wrinkles in the newspaper, pointing to the photo that occupied half of the newspaper page.

"John, since when did you start paying attention to those billionaires?" Beeman joked.

But Constantine wasn't in the mood for jokes. His tone was unusually serious as he spoke slowly and deliberately.

"Beeman, tell me, who is this? It's important to me!"

Seeing Constantine's seriousness, Beeman understood that it wasn't the time for jokes. He hurriedly replied, "This is Zane, the chairman of Skynet Technology. He's hailed as one of the most outstanding business geniuses in the US. He founded Skynet Technology at the age of 16, and now he's only 21 years old, but his net worth is estimated to be over tens of billions of dollars."

"Unfortunately, while Skynet Technology produces healing agents, they can only restore severed limbs. If there were a cure for cancer, you'd be saved," Beeman said with a hint of regret. He didn't want to lose Constantine as a friend.

People like them were rare in modern society, and they were often seen as lunatics or freaks by others. Constantine was possibly Beeman's only friend in this world after their demon-fighting comrades had died or moved on to regular lives.

But Constantine didn't pay attention to Beeman. His eyes were fixed on Zane in the photo.

"He really is human. He really is human..."

"John?" Beeman nudged Constantine, as if trying to bring him back to reality.

Regaining his senses, Constantine neatly folded the newspaper on the table and tucked it into his pocket.

"Beeman, I have something urgent to attend to. I need to go out. Leave these things here," Constantine said hastily, throwing on his coat and rushing out the door before Beeman could say anything, leaving Beeman looking bewildered in the wind.

Half an hour later, Zane, still contemplating how to snatch believers from God and Satan, suddenly received a message from Skynet.

"Boss, there's a man named John Constantine looking for you at Skynet Technology. He asked me to relay a message saying the deal is still on."

Zane's eyes flickered with doubt. He was certain that Constantine had nothing he wanted, and judging from his previous attitude, he couldn't even avoid Zane. So why would he show up at his doorstep just half an hour later?

"Bring him over," Zane said calmly.

Despite his doubts, Zane wasn't afraid of Constantine causing trouble. With his power, Constantine couldn't stir up any waves under Zane's control. Zane wanted to see what this guy was up to.

It didn't take long for Skynet's efficient team to bring Constantine to the villa.

Constantine wasn't surprised by the luxury of Zane's villa or the high-tech gadgets inside. But when he saw Little Bone, his eyes almost popped out of his sockets.

Amidst his shock, Constantine felt a surge of excitement in his heart. With the unique power fluctuations he had sensed from Zane and Little Bone's attempt to understand modern society through the computer in Zane's villa, Constantine finally confirmed his suspicions.

That Zane, is a human who's on the path to godhood, even though he doesn't know where Zane's followers are. But the fluctuations unique to faith are absolutely genuine.

Because Constantine has felt similar fluctuations on the archangel Gabriel!

"What else do you have to offer me in exchange, John Constantine?" Zane asked, his expression cold.

Although Zane hadn't done anything to him before, it didn't mean Constantine could toy with him. If he couldn't give a satisfactory answer, Zane didn't mind gaining another follower.

Constantine faced Zane's questioning, straightened his disheveled clothes, took a deep breath, and walked slowly to Zane's front, making a move that left Zane dumbfounded.

He actually kneeled down, damn it, he actually kneeled down.

"I, John Constantine, am willing to follow you and become your follower," he said, looking up at Zane.

Seeing this scene, Zane couldn't help but feel a headache. Why were these people's thought processes so peculiar, kneeling at the drop of a hat? Didn't they know the floor had just been cleaned?

But Zane's main concern was curiosity. This guy, who had been terrified of him before, suddenly wanted to follow him.

"Why?" Zane asked again.

"Because I know you're on the path to godhood," Constantine said, still kneeling.

"How do you know?"

"I was guessing before, but now I'm sure," Constantine said with a hint of satisfaction.

Zane was speechless. He felt like he had been tricked, but he didn't mind. He had never intended to hide his potential for godhood. He was just surprised that Constantine had guessed it.

"Then why do you want to follow me?" Zane asked once more.

"Because I don't want to go to hell, and only you can help me escape Satan's clutches in this world!" Constantine's gaze held a hint of hope, a hint of pleading, and a hint of fear.

Zane nodded, indicating he understood, but he wasn't a saint going around saving everyone. You want to join me, fine, but you need to prove your worth.

"I remember you're a follower of God, and Satan is also after your soul. Why should I take the risk of offending two deities and accept you?" Zane asked calmly, sitting back and waiting for Constantine's answer.

Constantine, still kneeling, began to rapidly turn over his thoughts, trying to find something about himself that would make Zane favor him.

Strength? Definitely not. When Constantine first arrived at Zane's place, he knew that anyone here could easily beat him, including the driver who brought him here (Skynet).

Knowledge? No, his exorcism skills were useless against Zane.

Connections? Better not to mention them. His friends combined probably couldn't match Zane's skill.

Gradually, Constantine despaired, realizing he had nothing that would interest Zane. His once proud posture slumped.

"Am I destined for hell..." Constantine thought in despair.

"Wait, hell? Satan?"

Suddenly, Constantine seemed to realize something, and hope flickered back into his eyes.

"Have you made up your mind?" Zane looked calmly at Constantine.

"My soul is worth you taking me in!" Constantine said firmly, even his tone carried a sense of willingness to die.

"Soul?"

"Yes, Satan once said that when I die, he will personally come to take my soul to the underworld. Throughout history, only I have received such treatment. If beings like Satan value my soul so much, then I believe my soul must have hidden value."

Zane stared directly into Constantine's eyes, then smiled after a few seconds.

"You're gambling, aren't you?"

"Who isn't?"
