Chapter 2: Chapter 2: The Spell of the Divine Protector

John Smith was having a long dream.

In his dream, there was a man named Jack Davis who lived in a world called Earth where there were no monsters or conflicts, and everything was peaceful.

As a programmer, he led a mundane but fulfilling life of 997.

One day, Jack Davis stayed up for two days and two nights to fix a glitch in a game called "Food God," but he never woke up again due to exhaustion.

However, he did not die; instead, he became a strange "soul" that drifted aimlessly in the void cracks.

After an unknown amount of time, perhaps a year or maybe hundreds of years, a light appeared before Jack Davis.

Through the light, he saw a young boy lying in a pile of rocks, bleeding profusely and barely alive.

A strange feeling overcame Jack Davis, and like a magnet, his soul subconsciously drifted towards the boy's head...

"No! This is not right!" John Smith woke up abruptly.

The heavily injured boy lying in the rocks was none other than his own reflection.

"John, John!" Suddenly, Emily Jones's familiar voice sounded in his ears, trembling and with obvious tears. "I can't die. How can I die?"

With a strong desire to survive, John Smith's blurred consciousness revived.

He was the first to notice that there was another soul in his mind, gradually taking over control of his body.

"Time travel...possession...rebirth..." These words that he had just learned suddenly came to mind, sending shivers down John Smith's spine.

Perhaps after drifting in the void for too long, the soul of Jack Davis was evidently stronger.

John Smith tried to resist several times, but he was always defeated and constantly consumed.

John Smith knew that the moment when his soul was completely "eaten up," he would be finished!

"Even if I die, I don't want another person to occupy my body and live this life for me..."

The illusory soul clenched its fists, and John Smith hesitated briefly before rushing towards the heart of his body.

  He remembered his past life.

Sixteen years ago, John Smith was born in a small village in the wilderness, and until the age of six, he lived a happy and peaceful life.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened until one day when he was six years old, a disaster struck.

The princess of the Abyss Blood Clan awakened from her ice coffin after thirty thousand years and needed a large amount of young boys and girls to replenish her blood.

In order to please the princess of the vampire clan, their minions slaughtered numerous villages in the surrounding area, with all eligible children being their targets.

John Smith's small village was one of them. As a young boy, he watched helplessly as his parents were brutally killed trying to save him.

The feeling of powerlessness still haunts him to this day.

Fortunately, just as the vampire princess was about to bite into his neck and drink his blood, the angelic legion belonging to the Holy Court arrived through a spatial tunnel.

Led by the six-winged guardian archangel Asmodeus, they successfully repelled the vampires and saved John Smith.

While his life was spared, the vampire princess was too powerful.

She was one of the oldest vampire members from ancient times and had rare and noble blood. Her saliva naturally carried extremely ancient and vicious blood toxins, and John Smith could not avoid being infected after being bitten.

This blood poison was extremely dominant, taking root in the depths of the human body and constantly sucking on life essence.

When the time was right, it would break out and open into a six-petal blood flower, causing the soul to scatter and the body to be destroyed.

Even the legendary six-winged guardian archangel could not eradicate this ancient blood poison!

Kind-hearted Asmodeus did not want to see a young life die in agony and spent his energy casting five divine protection spells to help John Smith seal the blood poison deep in his heart, allowing him to survive to this day.

Asmodeus reminded him that the divine protection spells were not a permanent solution, at most protecting him for fifteen years before the power is exhausted.

Now, John Smith faces the life-threatening crisis of his soul being devoured and cannot afford to worry about what will happen five years from now; he only wants to fight back.

Perhaps this divine protection spell is his only chance of survival!

His blood-red heart beats rapidly. In his soul state, John Smith sees clearly that there is a circular light barrier in the depths of his heart, inside of which is a slowly flowing red liquid, emanating endless horror and evil.

As if sensing John Smith's consciousness approaching, the red liquid suddenly transforms into a blood-patterned python, hissing and spitting snake letters, displaying a greedy, thirsty, and hateful expression in its dark gold vertical pupils, without any concealment.

  "Buzz!"

Two pieces of golden talisman paper inscribed with golden inscriptions quietly appear and turn into golden chains that pierce through the body of the blood-patterned python.

The blood-patterned python screams in agony and then explodes like a bubble, turning back into red liquid that slowly flows inside the barrier.

The soul lightly touched the two golden talismans.

These were the fundamental core power of the Guardian's spell.

Originally, there were five of them, but after ten years of natural wear and tear, only two remained.

"Life or death, it's up to you!"

John Smith concentrated all his willpower and actively detonated a divine Guardian's spell within his body.

  ...

  Outside.

The sky was nearing dusk, and the sun was about to fade away.

This seemed to be a valley in the desert, with large and small sandstones scattered all over the ground, as well as many fragments and body parts of airships that had disintegrated, which looked appalling.

John Smith was lying on the ground, and blood was flowing from all corners of his body without stopping.

Emily Jones shook him with teary eyes, calling out his name over and over again, trying to wake him up.

Suddenly, dense golden spots of light permeated from John Smith's body, repeatedly washing in and out.

The gruesome wounds on his body began to heal at a visible speed, and soon recovered completely.

  "Huff...huff..."

John Smith suddenly sat up, his gaze vacant.

"Great, John, you're awake! I was afraid I wouldn't see you again!" Emily Jones threw herself into his arms excitedly, sobbing.

  "I..."

John Smith was stunned for a moment, then became clear-headed and quickly checked his own condition.

Apart from the tattered clothes, there wasn't even a scar left on his body, as healthy as ever.

"It's obvious that my own consciousness is controlling my body now, and everything has returned to normal. So, where did that guy named Jack Davis go?"

Many thoughts rushed into his mind. Originally, John Smith's idea was that the divine Guardian's spell had amazing purification and healing abilities, and was a natural enemy of evil powers.

By detonating one of the spell seals in his body, he might be able to expel Jack Davis.

There might be some risks, but there was no other way at the time, so he had to take a chance.

  "Huh?"

John Smith was surprised to find that a transparent crystal was suspended in his mind, spinning around.

Intuition told him that it was the crystallization of the remaining soul essence of Jack Davis's subjective consciousness after it had completely disappeared.

It was like a freshly baked cake emitting an enticing aroma, deeply attracting John Smith's attention...
