Chapter 8: "The kids playground"

Learning how to wield a sword turned out easy, it was more like dusting of rust from jagged memories for me. Like I already knew how to fight with a sword, but my body was not good enough for the moves I had in mind.

Hunar just said I was talented and had a good knack for fencing, but I was not coordinated enough to pull the stuff I wanted to. Our lessons turned out to be enjoyable for me and for him (I would know, since I read his mind).

I did start to have a pleasant relation with him, and we met often enough since he came twice a week for teaching, and his two daughters ended playing with Luna and I every Saturday.

The second big thing that happened, was the official creation of MY newspaper. It was an adventure in itself, and it led to much anger, frustration, pride and fun for my family.

Since my column in the Quibbler was still appreciated, I decided to go bigger. Why not create an entire newspaper, one made by a kid, and with the targeted audience being kids ?

The problem was that I would need to made dumb articles inside it to look more real, but on the other side, censure would not be a problem. After all, kids do tend to say a bunch of nonsense all the time right ?

So without anyone being aware I created a four section newspaper, "the kids playground". I started easy and without big stuff. Each section had a small title, first section being "today news", second section being "boys", third section being "girls" and last section being "Saturday's night story".

The first section of the first edition was about the addition of quidditch player Diego Moreno in the chocolate frog card collection, for his incredible performance as a beater during his career and most importantly what made him a legend when he 'batted' (common term used when you knock out a player by sending a bludger in his face) every player of the opposite team during quidditch world cup quarter finals in 1926.

Second section was about dinosaurs. Basically saying they were cool, and may be the 'dragon's grandparents'. To make it more appealing I added a drawing of a tyrannosaurus I did myself (and which looked too much like a kid's drawing despite my best efforts).

Third section had a drawing from Luna depicting a crowned princess and an article about why every girls should wear a tiara like Lady Ravenclaw to become more smart and pretty (who cares if it's nonsense, I'm sure jewellers would approve).

the last section was the most important. I wanted to create bedtime stories that would be approved by parents. It appears that there is very little fiction literature in the wizarding world, and even less for kids. I believe it's because we are too few wizards, and thus too few people to devote into art as a job.You might not know but there is no more than 3000 wizards in wizarding Britain, which is REALLY little when you think about it. There used to more than 4200 before the second world war. A grim tell about the ravage Voldy's and Grindelwald's war did to the population.

But to go back on topic, let me tell you that there is a total of ONE book with children fairy tales inside. That's it. A single book named "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" with a grand total of five stories. Is it any wonders that the Harry Potter book became such a hit when you consider that "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" was written in the 15th century ?

So I wrote the first chapter of what would become my very first official book, "The nundu king". I of course got the idea from the lion king, but the story had yet to be aired in cinemas, and I changed it to include Africa's magical creatures. So if someone's accused of plagiarism, it won't be me. My biggest effort was about finding the magical creatures to replace the mundane ones in the story. Lucky for me, I can tell you there were a LOT of information on magical creatures in my household, and these books, I was allowed to read.

Once I had finished the editing of the first edition, I sneaked in my father's workshop at night and used the printing press to make a hundred copies. The noise was not a problem since I did it while my parents were distracted by there nightly activities.

The final version of the newspaper looked rather amateur, but that was the vibe I wanted it to have. Can't expect too much from a kid after all.

After that, I needed to send them all. And that was the real problem. When I talked about the Quibbler with my dad I realised that the biggest expense was the cost of the post owl service. But I did not have the money for that, and I don't think they would accept anyway.

So I did the least obvious thing ever for someone living in the wizarding world, and called for one of the most powerful beings living in the country.

"Is there an house elf idling please, I have some work for you." I asked to no one in particular once I got outside the house. I didn't want the ward to be a problem after all.

"You be needing something from Tippy ?" asked a house elf that poped right next to me.

"Hello there. Yes there is something I would like some help with. May I ask to who you are bonded first please ?"

"Tippy be bonded with Hogwart. But it's being holiday, and there is not much work right now." She answered, at least I think it was a she.

"Perfect, here is a list of family names, and copies of my newspaper. Can you send these copies to these family and the rest to families you know have a child around my age please ? And this is just an open question but are you looking for a family per chance ?" I said.

Tippy looked at the list with around 30 pureblood family names I remembered from the book and said "Tippy can be doing that. Tippy be calling her friends to help. Did Sunkissed make newspaper himself ?"

I did catch that she didn't answer about joining a family (and her weird name for me) but I didn't push since to be honest, I didn't know much about house elves (no one does from what I learned) and I didn't want to bother someone that was basically going to do free work for me. So I just answer positively to her question and waited. She looked awed for a moment (you don't meet a six years old editor everyday), and then disappeared with a pop, taking with her the newspapers, and my list.
