Chapter 6: 5.La Llorona

A Week Later.

A week. It has been a week and nothing. No sign of Venom. No sign of her.

Nothing.

I haven't slept in the past 2 days thinking I found a lead on them, but it was a dead end, again.

I felt frustration as the time kept moving forward and as each passing minute, I became more and more impatient with myself. I knew if I kept working like this it wasn't going to lead us anywhere, and as I hear the pec deck clicking every time, I retrieved my arms to the side I felt the stress slowly evaporate into thin air. The heavy weight attached to the machine causes the feeling of relief within my muscles and in a way feeling the annoyance of the past week almost melt away. I let out a heavy breath as I release the weights off from my hands as I lean back on the seat slowly catching my breath as I look up at the ceiling trying to rearrange my thoughts.

    I think back of Venom.

It just doesn't make sense to me how there is absolutely no information on her or her world, or even her spiderman, I mean unless they don't have one... a la verga... that might be it.

I get up heading to my room quickly as many Spider-people mumble hi's as I pass, I nod quickly having no time to chat as I call Lyla.

"Any updates on Venom?" I asked as she showed up walking beside my head yawning.

"Nothing whatsoever" she glanced at me annoyed.

"Could there be a possibility that she has no Spiderman in her world?"

"There is one, but we can rule that out because of her comments calling you a knock off Spiderman" Lyla tried to hold back her laugh as groan.

"Well maybe her Spiderman could be dead?" I tried again.

Lyla stayed quiet for a bit "that can be a possibility."

"Any news from Noir?" I continue as she sits down on a random chair she spawned herself.

"You would be the first to know right?" She smiled at me as I roll my eyes.

    "Yeah."

"And have I told you anything?"

    "No"

"Then what exactly are you expecting?" I glare at her as I step foot in my room.

"Something... Anything, shit maybe a few people that have gone missing, or maybe a siting of a strange creature roaming around Nueva York" I grumbled annoyed.

"Venom is not that stupid- wait scratch that, his host doesn't seem that stupid to let us get on her trail like that, if anything I'm assuming they changed their entire clothing to blend in with the rest of the civilians."

I rub the temples of my head aggravated trying to think carefully about Venom and her appearance from the night I met her. Our interaction when we fought and the way they held themselves, I recall their moves, their lingo, I pace back and forth, and Lyla goes on about Spider Noir and how he didn't realize she was a villain when he met her and that's when I stopped in my tracks. "That's it, call Noir here we can get her appearance from him, and we can plaster it on the news as a person wanted" I clap my hands loudly before sitting down near my computers as Lyla disappears. I push myself on the small rolling chair underneath me as I turn to my screens my frown deepening seeing gabby, I shake my head feeling a part of myself falter as I cover my face with the expression I always put on when I hear the doors slide open seeing Noir walk in.

His back was straight, his coat swung lightly as he walked with a power in his step, he was a tall proud man, and he knew how to fight well, but I guess he isn't very good and finding a simple villain.

"Called me here?" Noir asked his mask raising lightly on his eyes as I nod.

"I need you to explain her face to us, well to Lyla since you know, you saw her that night" I lay my hands on my waist.

"Yeah..." he paused looking at me "I can do that for you."

"Great" I turn my back on him as call to Lyla as she shows up in front of me before leaning to the side smiling towards Spider Noir waving at him.

"Well, hello" she smiled as Noir tilts his hat towards her laughing softly his voice deep "you can just follow me to another room as we try to recall Venom" He nods as I begin to follow behind them.

"Oh no you are staying here" Lyla shows up in front of me shooing me off.

    "Why?" I mumbled.

"I left my other job you asked me to do, you should continue for me while I do the face recognition for you, okay? Okay great bye!" They both walk out of my room as I roll my eyes as I take a few steps to my computers.

Not even an hour later Lyla shows up in front of me as I frown at her as she wipes away everything I was able to obtain from the investigation on Venom as a woman shows up in front of my screen.

"Pretty ain't she?" Lyla smiles as I stare intensely at the AI photo of the supposed host.

I shake my head turning away from the image of the woman as Lyla shows it again but on another screen "Aren't you proud? Happy even? I mean we can now find this chick after a week with dead ends."

"That's if anyone has even seen her" I grumble looking down at my thighs before slowly looking up at the image, pretty was by the far the last thing I thought of the women in front of me, more like the nickname I gave her.

La Llorona.

It fit her.

The long black hair that was slightly passing her waist, it was wavy but messy, it was like a night sky when there was no stars visible, I won't lie when I say it was noticeable. That was the first thing my eyes caught; it reminded me of the story my mama told me when I was just a child.

It all started when kids in my neighborhood teased me saying I was going to be taken away by the evil woman called La Llorona. I lean closer to the screen, my forehead on my right hand observing every detail as I recall the moments I went home crying to my mother of the terrifying woman, she was in the kitchen cooking menudo in the middle of summer.

I felt a small smile tug at the corner of my lips.

I sigh remembering her expression of worry as she took me to the sala and sat me down on the couch as the soft noise of a novela she was watching from the kitchen play in the background. She told me there was nothing to worry about once I told her what the neighbors kids told me, she proceeded to laugh at me for believing such a story before sighing and asked if I wanted to hear the story she was told by her mom and her mom's mom and so on.

I was scared, I assumed she was going to tell me the horrible and haunting story of the Black long-haired woman I just cried about.

     But that wasn't the case.

La Llorona to her was a woman that was met with misfortune towards the end of her life, she was considered the most beautiful girl in her village, many men lined up for her, but her eyes were on the bachelor who just entered her town, a rich caballero, he chased after her with extravagant gifts and many roses, and after courting her for a while she agrees to marry him. Soon they both have two children, two boys who the wife loved and adored with her entire existence; however, to the eyes of her husband these children only caused a rift between their marriage. The husband only saw his wife going to the two children's needs and never his, he saw all her attention, her love, and effort towards only them and none to him. He became jealous of his own blood and searched for attention elsewhere in town, which lead him to have an affair with a younger woman, but still he stayed by his wife, he couldn't help but want to keep his beautiful "Trophy" that all the men in the town wanted.

Even with wanting to leave he was overwhelmed with anger at the thought of other men in the village wanting to court her even after a separation. Of course, he thought what he was doing was all his wife's fault, never his, he couldn't help but still search for the other women and claim it was only for the pleasure his wife had stopped giving him, if only she gave him the attention he was yearning for he wouldn't have been unfaithful. If only it wasn't he own children that stole her away from him, he would've been completely loyal to his wife.

One day his wife had to go into town to grab the youngest child some medication and asked her husband to take of the children while she stepped out, and as he stayed there the oldest one went up to him and asked his papa to help him build a bird house to surprise his mama with. The husband snapped in that very second, for some reason it angered him to see his own son want to give his woman a gift, and that's when his guilty conscious came in. As he looked at his child, he saw himself in his blood and in that instant he grabbed both of kids claiming they were going to the woods to build their mother a beautiful bird house, but as each step they took the children couldn't get rid of this uneasy feeling deep within their stomachs until they reached a silent pond. The youngest child with a high fever crying for his mother as the oldest held onto him trying to calm his little brother down as their dad stayed there only staring at the pond quietly.

Then that's when the man did the unthinkable.

He drowned his children and as they cried and begged with the little breaths they had and called for their mama.

The man then left their lifeless small bodies in the pond before walking home to only see his wife yelling out their kid's name, just the name of her children, and as she turns to the backside of her home she saw a man, no, her husband with no expression on his face and his clothing wet, his eyes bloodshot. She asked him for the children and began to beg as he just looked at her.

I remember almost crying at this part of the story as my mom's eyes were glossy "we can have more" my mama said, "we can have more children, ones that we can get a nanny for" the man said to his wife as she looked at him horrified "they took all the attention away, when was the last time you have even asked about me?" he yelled in anger.

Frantic the woman grabs the man's face trying her best to see the truth behind his eyes "where are my ninos? Donde estan? Estan jugando?" She tried to stay calm, but she knew deep down.

The man scoffs "yeah they're playing in the pond, you know how the oldest is, always wanting to fish" he lied.

Her heart fell, her children were afraid of water, he knew that too, but he was so high on this feeling he couldn't concentrate as his wife looked at him with horror "ahi amor no te preocupes los ninos estan bien" he tried to grab her when she takes a step back before running towards the woods "you did this!" he yelled "It was all because of you!" He was right behind her when a shriek rang throughout the forest, a shriek so haunting and so deadly he covered his ears out of fear.

There stood the beautiful woman drenched in water and her long wet black hair hugging her body as she tried to retrieve her dead children, their bodies pale and blue due to the cold freezing temperature they were in.

"Mis niños! Ahí! Mis niños, NO!" She yelled as she held onto their bodies caressing their faces rocking them back and forth, her hands shaking in horror and sadness "Por favor! Por que?!" she cried as she stared at the man that was no longer husband.

"Los niños esto y esto, y yo que, no soy importante? The fault is on you! I did this for us! Our marriage was failing because of them!" He pointed to the children in disgust before looking away.

"They were children! OUR CHILDREN! Yours! OURS! How can you do this?" she looked down at her children and screamed again in agony "Oh my babies! How can I live on?" she cried holding them close to her heart "I don't want to, I don't want to, no, I can't" her husband looks at her the guilt slowly coming to his brain.

"If you hadn't- if you just paid attention to me I wouldn't be so jealous" he argued as she turns to look at him, her mouth open as tears run down her face hair strands stuck to her face "I wouldn't have done what I've done if you just put effort into me as much as you did to them."

She shook her head "I did, you know I did" she whispered.

"When did you?! Ever since the oldest was born You never once paid attention to me! I have needs too!"

"If you helped me... if only you helped me, but you were always out in the down while I stayed home to take care of our children, if you only shared an ounce of care or worry for them the way I did you would understand, if only you got out of your damn head of jealousy towards our children we could've raised them together."

"If you gave me an ounce! I wouldn't have searched for it somewhere else, and I wouldn't have gone to alcohol to deal with the-the guilt" he slurred out his words as his wife freezes tears still streaming down her red cheeks.

I remember looking up at my mother as she caressed my hair out my face and let out a soft sighs "for a parents to find their children they consider their entire world killed by the one and only person who should've protected them as well drowned by said person is... heartbreaking, so as La Llorona held her dead sweet babies in her arms, knowing it was her husband, and him claiming it was her fault she went mad. Not only that but to find out in the end he was being unfaithful the entire time wrecked her, it surprised her to think that still with having an affair he could've just left her and started a new life, but he still wanted her just not with their children. And as she came to the conclusion of what he did to her, to her children she grabbed a large rock from the ground and finally let go of her children's body before walking up to the man that had his back towards her and smacked him on his head, again and again as she cried out to her children and asking for forgiveness for failing them as a mama."

I looked at my mom tears running down my tan round cheeks before she brushed them away softly from my face "ahi carñio mio" she hugged me closer to her "after that she walked back into her village, her kids in her arms as she wept quietly" I tucked myself in her arms "when the town saw they assumed it was all her doing, they said she saw red with jealousy and revenge that she killed her husband and children out of spite, but in reality they only got one thing right about why she did kill the man she once loved and it wasn't out of jealousy."

    "So, what happened to her?"

"Well... they took her kids and buried them in unmarked graves and hung her."

"This doesn't make me feel better about her mama" I mumbled.

"She is just a lost soul, searching for her children, searching for herself amongst us, she is not taking them, she is a mother herself Miguel, she would never cause a parent the pain she went through firsthand," she looked down at me before sighing "If you ever see her you should just tell her sorry, she was an unfortunate person who lost everything she loved."

I recall my young self-nodding, I believed everything my mom said to me and even now I still see the 'scary' story of la Llorona as an unfortunate women's life.

I shake my head softly my eyes being met with the young women's dark brown eyes; I turn away making a sharp noise with my mouth and teeth annoyed.

She looks exactly like how I pictured the haunting story; it sent a shiver down my back as I push myself away from the screen and turn to another one. It was annoying, extremely, I felt myself glancing back at the image.

"You sure he got it right?" I ask Lyla as she gives me a look.

"He was more than sure Miguel" she laid on her stomach and sat and began kicking her feet "why?"

"I don't think it's accurate" I mumbled before typing down some codes to different dimensions.
