Chapter 2: Black-bellied old man

Sitting in the back of the tea shop. Li Xinyi had just finished telling Grandpa Yue about the dream she had the night before. "what do you think grandpa?" Leaning his head down, Grandpa Yue was seriously debating on how he should respond to the question. On one hand, he knew she needed to understand that life isn't as simple as she thought it to be, but on the other, he didn't want her to be hurt and worry too much before turning 18 and can care for herself. Deciding to answer in a way that will help solve both issues, Grandpa Yue finally looked up to answer.

"Yiyi, you know how your mom married a foreigner?" Hearing a hum of acknowledgment from Xinyi, he continued, "well, her family was against the marriage and disowned her shortly after. Luckily your father was well off, so when they moved to Puerto Rico, the difference wasn't that big compared to when she still had her family's support." Pausing for a second to collect his thoughts, he continued. " That incident might have put a physiological burden onto your mother. She puts a lot of hope onto you probably to prove to herself that she didn't make the wrong decision."

Looking up at Xinyi, he saw that she was lost in thought, so he decided to continue speaking. "I fell that the dream was probably you becoming conscious of her expectations. I feel that you shouldn't worry so much about it, do you understand?" After processing the information, Xinyi looked at Grandpa Yue and smiled, "yeah, I understand anything else?"

Grandpa Yue chuckled at her expression but decided to just continue speaking. "Yiyi, you know you are about to be 18; that's an important time for you because you will finally start your journey as an adult." "I need you to start thinking about what you want to be once you graduate and start looking into it, that way, you won't go into the career blindsided." Nodding her head quickly to show that she understood, Xinyi opened her mouth to ask another question when she was pulled up by her arm. "HEY!" letting out a shout of protest, she started to glare at the old man that was pulling her out of his shop. "Grandpa, wait, what about the dream!" That couldn't have been the only thing it meant," she complained in a whiny voice. Shaking his head, Grandpa Yue explained, "I would love to talk more, but my business is about to open, and you are late to school," pausing to hand her some packaged tea, he continued. "Hurry back home, and please try hard to pay attention." walking out the door, Xinyi sighed, " ok grandpa, I will, and thanks for the tea!" "IT WASN'T FREE YOU BETTER PAY ME BACK," a shout sounded from inside the tea house. "How dare that black-bellied old man tell me I have to pay for something I didn't want" after grumbling for a while, she started to run back home.
