Chapter 43: Can I tell you a secret?

The woman narrowed her eyes. "You're not just talking about shelter from the rain and heat are you? Is Goren on the run from something? What does he expect me to shelter him from?"

"I think that's for you to find out when you reach. Any information I have right now might not be accurate."

She sighed and sipped her drink in deep thought. "Fair enough."

She slipped out her phone and texted her boyfriend for a while until the driver took her home.

The jet black car finally drove through two huge ornate gates and into a long driveway that took them through large rolling fields and flowers and trees, finally circling around a fountain and stopping in front of the gigantic house that this strawberry milk woman called her own.

Her name was…

"Suzue!" Goren called out, limping out of the driveway with a purple face and fractured hands.

Suzue stopped out of the car, shopping cover hanging from one hand, but her eyes were on the floor. She walked up the steps and past Goren without bearing him a glance.

"Suzue, please listen," he followed her in and up the stairs which led to her room on the second floor of the house.

Suzue stopped. She took off her beanie and let the locks of her light brown hair fall down her shoulders. "I don't welcome pathetic people into my house. Especially not those who ignore me." She said, her back still turned on him.

"I'm sorry, okay? Please listen to what happened-"

"Wait in the living room, Goren. I need to freshen up. Spending a whole day working in a theater doesn't exactly make one very bright, you know?"

"Ah okay, and also-"

But by then Suzue had stepped inside her room and closed the door. Goren sighed and walked back down the steps. He was aided by the other maids in the house that got him something to eat and drink.

His hands hurt, and so did his eyes. And his stomach, especially. He had never tried to control that much blood before. And it had been just 2 days since he got his new powers. The whole ordeal was taking a toll on him. After the electricity came on the previous night in the hotel, the guards found Goren lying unconscious on the bed… as well as the dead body of Mr. Cheng.

They handled it like they were trained to and the death of the leader of the Cheng group was currently top secret. They had the leader taken care of and Goren taken away to a safe place until the culprit of the murder could be identified and dealt with.

Until then, Goren was also a prime suspect of killing his father.

Meanwhile, Suzue took her own sweet time in her bathtub filled with scented water. She buried herself inside the water and rubbed her skin with coffee scrub like she does a few times every week. It was a little something her mother had left with her.

She stepped out of the bathroom covered in her favorite silk robe and was met by her assistant/ best friend sitting on her bed and flipping through files.

Vanilla, or Ani as Suzue called her, looked up and waved. "How's your day?"

Suzue sighed and laid back on the bed. "Fiiine. Any new info for today? Did anyone find me?"

Ani laughed. "You seem obsessed with the idea that someone knows who you really are."

Suzue jumped back up and lifted her hands in the air. "Life's boring! And something dramatic happens then I'll get something to finally do!"

"No wonder you work in the theatre. So dramatic. Well I think it's good no one knows, at least for now."

"Why do you say that?" Suzue peeked over at the files Ani was reading. Ani had been with Suzue ever since she was rolling in baby food. In fact, they rolled in baby food and playgrounds together. And it was only perfect that she became her number one partner in this little mission of hers.

"Well, you know about the party last night right?"

"Yeah, the one held in the name of our country X leader, Mr Cheng. Good man. A little on the haughty side but guess that's what you need for a little power."

Ani curled her lips sheepishly and shrugged. "He might have just died."

Suzue dropped her jaw. "Ugh, really? And I thought he was more durable. Ah wait!" Suzue rolled her eyes. "Is that why Goren is here?"

"Yep," Ani nodded. "And according to phone call records we procured from the location, Mr Cheng revealed to his killer about the existence of the powers and the Last Magnate…" Ani narrowed her eyes as Suzue's eyes shone at those words, "... as the true leader of our sect."

Suzue nodded, "Yes! This is what I want! And did you trace who the killer was?"

"We know his phone number from the phone records but when we tried to track that, it's last location was at the hotel. We think the killer destroyed the SIM card while fleeing."

"Aww… find him fast. I can't wait for the show."

Ani rolled her eyes. "No one's going to find out you are the last magnate, Suzue. I'll make sure of it."

Suzue smiled, the humour in her voice now slowly draining. "And that's why I love you, Ani." She sighed and returned to her carefree state again. "Now that Cheng's gone, who do I appoint as the new leader?"

"Goren?" Ani suggested. "He is pretty loyal."

"Yeah, yeah. He's a wimp, though, just like his father."

"I thought you said his father was a good-"

Suzue waved her off. "All dead people are stupid people. If they had brains, they would be living by now."

Ani couldn't help but laugh a little. "The Eternal Phoenix Sect seems to have brains, aiming for immortality and all."

Suzue stuck her tongue out. "Bull. It's all some stupid dream game to mess with us. They aren't achieving immortality anytime soon. Only the Infinity Dragon can grant that." Suzue sighed and looked at the four paintings she had painted herself almost a year ago.

Each of the paintings had an elaborate design of a dragon on it. The fourth dragon stood out from the rest, shining brightly in a yellowish white incandescent light.

Suzue pointed at that fourth canvas. "I'll make you mine, Infinity Dragon, and the world will be mine too."

Ani snorted. "Yeah, cause you're definitely not the last magnate who just turned 800 humans into blood sucking servants." She replied sarcastically.

Suzue laughed with her. "Nope, who would do such a thing? Not me."

Ani tried not to laugh harder but couldn't contain it. Seeing her break out, Suzue also started shaking with bubbles of laughter.

Suzue raised her eyebrows and stood up, her lips lifting with the excitement of an idea. "Get this." She opened the room door and called a maid closer.

The maid smiled and asked what she needed.

"Can I tell you a secret?" Suzue whispered.

The maid smiled and nodded, feeling a bit awkward.

"I'm the Last Magnate everyone's talking about," she said seriously.

The maid looked mortally terrified for a second, then her eyes fell on Ani sitting on the bed and laughing. Then the maid started laughing a bit too. "You're funny Ms. Suzue."

Suzue pursed her lips with a smug smile. "I know right?"

She returned to the room and smiled wide at Ani. "They won't even believe me."

"Let's keep it that way," Ani replied confidently.
