Chapter 24: Psycast Power

"Yo! Where are you going Bluebell?"

An usalian in the middle of hauling logs to the homeworld waved at the semi-sleeping semi-self-conscious drooling Bluebell.

"Ah, the Patriarch just called me through the soul link." Bluebell answered with both of her eyes closed. "You didn't take a break, Thumper? I think I remembered that your break shit is around this time of the day."

"Uhm well…" Thumper wryly grinned as her eyebrows furrowed nervously. "Break is for the weak! Who needs a break anyway?"

"Well, I do~!"

"Anyway, the Patriarch and others can be seen doing something on the west outskirts of the outpost. Don't be late!" Thumper gave a thumbs up as she casually continued hauling a large log on her shoulder into the wayward portal. "Stay healthy! Be strong! And always be on the run for a job well done!"

Bluebell mindlessly gazed as Thumper went onto the other side.

"What with everyone being so energetic today?" Bluebell tilted her head. She then turned around to her appointed destination, and then tilted her head again to the other side as she shrugged with an oblivious smile. "Welp, at least everyone is happy at what they are doing."

Humming as she skipped to the outpost's outskirt, Bluebell saw more and more usalians working harder than the usual.

Just as she exited the gate, she maneuvered through the pits and traps until she reached the west site of the outskirts. There, she saw the Patriarch alongside Hopscotch, Karasaki, Jingo, and Immortal Dragon Overlord.

"I have arrived~!" Bluebell happily announced her present, before she finally saw what everyone was doing ,in which she realized that she didn;t understand what was actually going on.

"Ah, welcome to the session, Bluebell!" Nagan welcomed with a smile. Crossing his arms as he watched over the four usalians, his body could be seen having a glint golden outline. "You can start by watching them first as I explain what is happening."

The rest of the usalians stood in front of a short log with a single rock on the wooden platform. All of them could be seen being surrounded by the same glinting gold aura.

"Uhm, what are those four doing?"

"Psycast training."

Peripheral Systemic Casting.

Otherwise shortened and often referred to as 'Psycast', a coined term for psychic power that humanity developed and harnessed during the war against the creatures of the apocalypse.

It is an organic connection to a larger psychic field where it allows a sentient being to induce all sorts of conceptual existence to influence reality in a way that seems impossible. Many in fact referred to this phenomenon as straight up magic.

"This is quite hard."

"Notify me if you want to give up, Hopscotch!"

"... Rock, won't budge."

As of currently, Nagan was enveloping his psycast force onto the four usalians for them to familiarize themselves with the existence of psycast. Using the stimulation, they were introduced to the metaphysical space and shape of the field alongside its property. After they were familiar enough, they were tasked to borrow the psycast field to influence the rock in front of them using their psycast projection, to hasten the forming of their psycast field further.

"It looks hard," Bluebell commented.

"As long as they ingrained the feeling and sensation of being enveloped by the psycast field, it's enough." Nagan merilly laughed. "Extending the influence of the psycast field onto the rock is just a sub objective."

It would take years for a normal person to finally form their psycast field, and then another year to finally utilize the psycast field to influence the real world.

To put into perspective, a psycast field is like a rubber that grows bigger and more elastic as the user grows. And just like real rubber, it can only expand its stretching limit by repetition and exploration. If forced beyond its stretching limit, it will break.

And if the user was familiar enough with their psycast field, they could start to insert all kinds of conceptual imagery and calculation into it. The larger the psycast field, the more things they could hold.

It's like a random access memory of a computer.

The psycaster then draws their calculation and simulated projection from the psycast field before sending it to the real world, just like how the computer processed the data and information to the monitor.

"Oh! Oh!" In front of Immortal Dragon Overlord, the rock on the top of the log could be seen spinning at an extremely slow speed. Slow enough that it took a whole minute to notice that the rock was indeed spinning. "I'm getting the hang of it!"

"Huh, that's quite fast," Nagan commented with a surprised face. "Keep up the good work!"

Psycasting itself was not something that everyone was able to perform easily. The difficulty differs from person to person, as the biological vessel of someone's consciousness becomes a great factor when forming a psycast field.

Going back to the computer analogy, the brain or consciousness is the central processing unit for psycasting. Meanwhile, the organic body of that consciousness plays as the motherboard for psycasting, bringing all the parts together.

In the case of humans, not everyone was born with a body that could immediately accommodate the act of psycasting. Hence why, the difficulty wasn't equal, and that some people need to exert more effort at forming their psycast field longer so that their body can start adapting and become a proper catalyst for psycasting.

Because of this, most psycaster look as if they age slower as their whole physical body begins to work completely differently than non-psycasters. A psycaster doesn't need much sleep and eat as they draw their energy from the psycast field that was influencing the reality of their bodily vessel, and they can even make themselves not needing to urinate or defecate if they want to.

"Woaah, so does that mean I can just make my body feel the effect of sleeping without needing to sleep?" Bluebell tilted her head in great curiosity, as she withdraw more brain power from her head than usual.

Nagan was certainly amused by the development of his dorky usalian. "Of course! The limit is only decided by the metaphysical size of your psycast field."

While it was indeed true that Nagan was only able to perform a psycast after the first generation of the usalians were born, Nagan had already trained his psycasting right after he regressed to the past.

And because the act of psycasting was very deliberate in affecting the body of its user to a certain extent when practicing it, his training before meeting Owen should be affecting his body enough to be familiar with the psycast field to influence his genetics to a certain extent.

Meaning that by default, all usalians should have some degree of compatibility to perform a psycast.

"All right, you can start to explore the feeling and existence of a psycast field as I envelop you in one," Nagan instructed, after he had Bluebell in position in front of her own log and a rock. "You can also try borrowing my psycast field and influence the rock in front of you after you're familiar with it, just like everyone here."

"All right~!"

There was something that Nagan noticed about Bluebell.

Despite her simplistic and aloof nature, Bluebell could be seen exerting a great amount of focus when her emotion or the situation warranted it.
