Chapter 4: Falling Tide

Looking down to my hands on my lap, the image of Mia's glare was still burned into my eyes. Such a pretty color and yet, I felt it held a little sorrow behind it as well. The longer I wanted to peer inside her gaze, the harder it felt to breathe.

Rapid, quick breaths took me form my body until a loud smack brought me back.

"Here... Drink. You kist have been scared shitless, princess. " Lifting my head quickly, I stared at a cup of soda as Mia had taken me into a fast food restaurant. "Eat up while you can, it's on me. "

With a sorrow gaze, I looked down and held my hands around my cup while shyly taking a sip so as not to be rude. Gleaming with worry, Mia suddenly tapped my head with a burger and chuckled as she looked me on my eyes.

"You aren't going to pass out on me again, are you? " Her eyes felt warmer and calm.

I never lost her gaze as she scoffed when drinking her soda and asked if there was anything on her face.

"Hmm... " Honest and answering before thinking, she then lowered her expression slightly. "H-huh?! "

Looking away on a panic as I came back to my senses, we sat in silence as I took a bite from my burger. Slowly eating, I looked at the table and felt I was staring off in the distance as a lot was on my mind.

"So... " Leaving her cup on the table, she fave dome and demanded an explanation for my being in that alley way. "Well? "

"Um... I-I think I saw something? " I remained quiet after and was surprised when Mia bursted out laughing.

Exhaling sharply, she wiped her eyes and nodded with a smile as she leaned forward on the table while sucking on her straw. Glaring right at me through my meal, I found it both comforting and exiting at the same time. I knew I was blushing as the color around Mia's face was still a miracle in itself.

Getting a sudden case od hiccups, I tried my best to look away and in that moment, Mia did something unexpected.

Leaning across the table as she had her knee firmly beside the seat, she held my chin in her hand while looking me in my eyes. The sudden scent of her honey-ash scented smell entered my body and engulfed my entirety in a basking warmth.

Lifting my hand to stop her, she countered me as she took hold of my hand. Smiling, I looked onto her eyes and felt light as of being sucked into her very being. Feeling a little bit of breathing from her every breath she exhaled, my body quivered in response. Unable to fight these unfamiliar urges, my eyes felt heavy as they hung low while never loosing her gaze.

"Oh... " Waking slightly, I noticed her sudden surprise as she smiled and drew closer until we were essentially touching the tops of our noses together. "Even with that... You are truly one of a kind, Princess... "

As my body was reaching it's limit, Mia suddenly closed her eyes and I was able to breath again. Falling back down to my senses, Mia sat back on her seat while shaking her head in disbelief.

"I'm amazed you were able to resist me... Who exactly are you, Princess? " Resting her head on her hands, I gulped and shyly looked to my drink. "Ah... I suppose I gave you a scare with all that... Sorry. "

Meeting her gaze sharply as she stood up, I began to raise my hands from my lap but, stopped myself as she piclered her lips.

"Catch you around, Princess. " Grabbing her helmet, she illuminated it with just her touch.

Walking off, I remained speechless as I turned back to my half empty drink and wondered why she got that close. Suddenly seeing her half empty cup infornt of me, I looked around and extended my hands. Lifting it up, I could only see the straw she passionately sucked out of and began getting indecent ideas flowing into my head.

Leaning, I sharply closed my eyes and instead, threw away all the trash.

Walking home in a daze, I remained in the bath as I pondered what exactly happened today. As I tried to make sense of it, my mind continued hitting a wall where Mia's shine was the only thing I was thinking about. Her soft and plum lips, her long and air skin. She was the only one I could truly see in detail as her color made her shine bright.

Stepping out while pushing away these unfamiliar feelings and thoughts, I changed and got ready for bed. All the while, I subconsciously drew little parts of Mia's soft and beautiful expressions clear in my head as her name kept coming into mind whenever I wrote something down.

Going to sleep shortly after, I began having lucid dreams where I was stuck in a deep and depressing place where no color existed. Onoh shadows and light as things made less sence. Suddenly, I began dreaming about Mia and her luminating glow of colors as she brighter my world by shattering what I thought was impossible.

I was free and while reaching, our hands as well as bodies intertwined. Holding my head in her hand, she pulls dome close and her face lips softly eased as she drew closer. It was sudden and as I closed my eyes, I shot up from bed.

Waking to a radiant morning, I put on my glasses and wondered what was happening to me. Standing, I strecthed from the long day yesteeday as I headed downstairs to prepare both breakfast and lunch. Not long after, I headed to school and had forgitten the vents of yesterday as Mia's glow remained firmly on my mind.

~

Walking against the cool morning breeze, I headed up the street and arrived at school half an hour later. Heading inside, I rounded the corner and bumped into Rin. Quickly looking away, she went back to talking with another classmate. Bowing, I headed inside as I tried my best to not embarrass her infornt of her friends.

Passing the doors, I changed shoes and heads to class as the morning routine made me forget about everything else. As I walked downtown he hall, I was pumped to get to work as studying sounded fairly great right now.

Sliding the door to my room open, a breath of air escaped the room and turning ti meet everyone's focused gazes, I noticed they were staring at Mia. Her colors shone brighter than ever before as she soundly slept on my desk in the front of the class. Forgetting to bretah for a quick second, I moved gently to wake her and as she opened her eyes, she met my gaze and softly smiled.

"Hey... Princess. " Sitting up to let out a deep yawn, I stood idle as she scratched her chest and asked if confirming this was my class.

Nodding, she slammed her hands on my desk as she stood up and lightly slid her hand over army cheek while leaving the classroom.

"Have a good day learning, Princess... I'll be looking out for you. " As her words hit my ears, I melted down onto my desk and stood whole she walked out of the room.

Starstruck with a black gaze, I quickly snapped out of my haze as class had just about started and I was still standing from the shock. Embarrassed, I sat down and apologized lightly while continuing with class.

Lunch inevitably came and with it, I was suddenly even more avoided than usual when walking down the hallway. Stopping at the vending machine for a drink to go with my lunch, I headed outside where I usually eat my lumh and found I was truly being avoided.

~

Inhaling a breath while eating my lunch, I looked around and noticed the usual girls who spent time outside were gone. Tilting my head as I never though I would ever truly find myself eating alone since my acceptance to this school.

"Xie... " Turing to a familiar voice, I met Rin's gaze as she stood with a worried expression hanging on her face. "Is it true you went out on d-date with Mia? "

Half choking on my lunch, I cleared my throat and creased my brows while asking where she heard such a ridiculous statement. Rin suddenly affirmed herself and asked dme again. Meeting her gaze, I told her the truth about meeting up with Mia by chance yesterday, however, all we did was talk.

"Really... Is that what you are going to stick to... " Nodding, I was suddenly shown a photos of when Mia reached across the table until our faces were inches apart. "Really?! Xie! You lied... To me! "

Standing up sharply and denying I lied as she misunderstood, my words were no longer reaching her as she reached into her pocket and threw a familiar pen that went missing on the weekend from my desk at home. It was the same one that held a small glass that reflected light I got as a present from Amy.

Turning, her face, I noticed tears flew into the passing breeze as she ran off. Feeling worse than ever before, I truly felt as if my world had come crashing down as I no longer knew what it was I wanted. Rin, Mia, school and home all felt irrelevant and yet, the most precious to me as I struggled to figure out what it was I looking for.

I stood alone for the remainder of lunch until heading back to class. Without so much as rasing a finger when my name was called, I was sent outside of the classroom and there, I began to think freely.

Before long, I went home and climbed to my room where I remained unresponsive to everyone else.

The anger and guilt, for some reason, I couldn't make sence of the madness I was feeling. Torturing myself for makeing Rin give that expression, I fell further into a space where all I did was hurt those around me. Especially Rin, who was my one and only dear friend and I hurt her somehow.

Fading away intimate another dream, I pondered what I should do to make up with Rin when suddenly, all I saw was Mia. It then came down to my determination and I ultimately chose Rin.

"Hmm... I'll apologize properly to her tomorrow. Then, we'll be friends again like always. " Falling asleep as my kind felt the least at ease and forgot about the exams we were starting tomorrow.
