Chapter 38: Talking to Parents (2)

[FLASHBACK CONTINUES]

[AEGON AND GWEN]

When Aegon arrived with Gwen at her house he thought that this would be the hardest conversation he had ever had to this day.

George Stacy was a pretty strict man, but all his worries were in vain when it turned out that George wasn't home. Gwen's mother invited him in and they were talking for a while, Gwen's parents already knew about the boys' courtship.

"George is dying to meet you, Gwen had never shown any interest in a boy before until you showed up." The woman smiled when she saw how her daughter got nervous thinking about the things her mother could say about her.

"I hope Captain Stacy isn't one of those men who threaten his daughters' boyfriends."

Everyone was silent for a few seconds until they burst out laughing.

"Don't worry, I'll try to control it, but you better take care of my little girl or I'll go out and get married myself."

"It seems fair to me."

The 3 continued to talk until it was quite late and Aegon left.

[Aegon and MJ]

Unlike the rest of the girls, MJ's mother was close to Aegon and she knew there was something between them, then MJ had let it slip that they were having sex so there was nothing to hide anymore.

They were about to enter the house when the door opened and Madeline accompanied by Edward came out dressed in a beautiful dress.

"Mother, you didn't tell me you were going out tonight," MJ told her when he saw her dressed and leaving the house. Madeline was going to answer him, but Edward beat her to it. "The truth is my fault, I showed up unexpectedly thinking of inviting them both to dinner, I have a friend who has a restaurant who always insists on visiting him, so I thought I'd take them with me. When I arrived, your mother told me that you were at the movies. Hey, if you want, you can still come. What does the boss say, are you excited?"

"Edward, you're older than me, it feels weird for you to call me boss, especially in front of Madeline and MJ. Now about dinner, I'm afraid I can't be late, there are still some papers about the company that I have to review. Take MJ and have fun, then we agree and have another dinner together."

Aegon was about to say goodbye when she remembered something. "Madeline, I know Edward invited you, but you should let MJ pay this time. He didn't say anymore and left, he was sure Madeline would be surprised to see MJ's new bank account."

[AEGON AND FELICIA]

All of the girls' parents were good people, except for Felicia's mother. Lydia was a woman who was most concerned about her social status. In the past, they had enjoyed a life of comfort, but with the capture of Felicia's father and then his death, the family's comfortable life had disappeared.

As they reached the apartment where Felicia and her mother lived, Aegon thought of something. "Felicia, how much would you like to be independent of your mother?"

"Pretty much, once I turn 18 it will be the first thing I do. Before, I had thought of finding myself a nice apartment and dedicating myself to my career as a merchant." Aegon understood that she was referring to her theft.

"Haven't you thought about getting emancipation like me?"

"I'm sure my mother will never give it to me." She answered her, she had already thought about this possibility before, but if she was honest she wasn't sure she could fend for herself until she started stealing from her.

"I can convince her. If you let me I can talk to her and I'm sure I'll come to an arrangement." Aegon gave him some time to decide. Just as they were in front of the door, before opening it, Felicia asked him. "Are you sure you can do it?"

"Don't worry, when we get in go to your room and give me some time to talk to her."

When they entered the apartment, Lydia felt them coming and went over to them. "Were they on a date? The wonder of youth."

"Good night Lydia." Aegon greeted her. Felicia was glad she was awake. "Mother, is she awake yet?"

"Well, you weren't here." Felicia just nodded and went to her room. "I will be right back."

When they were alone Aegon began to speak. "Lydia, there's something I want to discuss with you."

"You look serious, let's sit down then." She motioned him toward one of the chairs in the room. "What is it you want to talk about?"

"Life has been a bit difficult for you after the death of your husband. The bills are difficult to pay." Seeing that the woman remained silent and did not deny her words, she continued. "I can change that, if you just do me a little favor I could get you to move to a more luxurious apartment. I could give you a job with my company."

"Well, I'm willing to improve your life a lot."

"This is not a conversation I expected to have tonight." Lydia didn't know what to say. She couldn't deny that she was tempted, but what did he want?

"And what is this small favor I have to do for you to make my life better?" She asked him to suspect that she had something to do with her daughter.

"Felicia wants to be emancipated and I want you to agree." Lydia was going to say something, but he beckoned her to stop. "Think of it this way, in a little over a year Felicia will turn 18 and this won't be necessary, you know very well that no matter what you do you won't be able to separate your daughter from me. So why don't you accept my proposal."

Lydia was thinking about the boy's words, she knew how stubborn her daughter was and meddling in her relationship with the boy would only end up arguing. On the other hand, she also knew he was right, it wouldn't be long before Felicia turned 18 and at that time her daughter would be gone.

"What he asks of me is that I sell my daughter."

"No, that's what you did when you took her to all those meetings with your friends to see if any boy from a wealthy family would notice her, and that way your situation would improve. Now you're securing your future, Felicia's is already safe by my side. If you accept you will be doing what Felicia wants and without so many worries on your shoulders, you could dedicate a little to repairing the relationship you have with your daughter."

"I know I haven't been her best mother, but I've always wanted the best for her."

"And what can be better than this? It's the best you can do for both of us."

Felicia who had been listening returned to the living room. "Mother is what I want. Lately, we are just fighting. It will be the best for both of us, please."

"Do you want to get away from me that badly?" The woman sounded hurt. "I just want to have independence in my life and I'm not going to abandon you, you're my mother. It's just that we won't live together anymore. This way you can try to rebuild your life, you're still young."

"Young man? I spent my youth with your father and look how he paid us. It's okay I'll sign the papers when I have them. Will you live together?"

Aegon was the one who answered him. "Yes." Felicia all smiled.

[END FLASHBACK]

After that day they went to the movies, Felicia couldn't stop gloating with the rest about how she was the first one to go live with him. She then remembered how active her boyfriend was and so she kept insisting Ororo and Rogue stay with them. Ororo and Rogue were the only ones who could move in with them and no one would stop them. And their help was something Felicia was going to need.

Jennifer was taking care of Felicia's emancipation and in a few days, she would have her papers.

Once dressed, Aegon opened a Gorge near the mutant academy and then walked the rest of the way, which wasn't far.
