Chapter 1: Suddenly a Clone
Something very strange happened today.
By strange I don't mean something unexpected, but something in the supernatural sense. It happened just after I woke up.
At first I thought it was all in my head and I was either still asleep or feeling sick - again - after yesterday's exhausting work.
It turns out that I work for a management company that abuses its employees, in other words, a black company like the ones shown in Japanese anime.
My working hours were supposed to be 4 hours a day and my salary was 1,500 reais a month. Something impressive considering Brazil's financial situation and the fact that it was a young apprentice's job
But due to my innocence and my rush to get a job as soon as possible - I was 15 - in order to get money and get out of the orphanage, I ended up signing the contract without reading it properly.
Because of this, I ended up with 3 years of service where, if I quit, I wouldn't receive any severance pay or any financial assistance.
What's more, I don't get a thirteenth and I lose my vacation rights according to what was in the document.
But there's another problem: the workload. I ended up signing that I agreed to work up to 4 hours of unpaid overtime. In other words, I WORK 8 HOURS A DAY TO RECEIVE THE EQUIVALENT OF 4 HOURS.
As if that wasn't enough, there's another issue. The thing is, I'm in high school and in order to be a young apprentice I have to have finished high school or I have to be in college.
So it turns out that I wake up at 6am to go to school and classes end at 12:30.
When school finishes I go straight to work because it's a long way from the school, which starts at 13:30 and finishes at 21:30.
It takes me an hour to get home from work, so I don't get home until 10:30 p.m. and I go to bed at 00:00 or later because I have to clean the house and make food for dinner and the next day.
You might be asking yourself: 'Why don't I look for another job?
The answer is quite simple, the point is that it would be difficult to get another job if I quit.
Considering the situation in Brazil, there are few jobs for young apprentices, even more so with a salary as high as my current job gives. In other words, I would hardly be able to get another job if I left my current one.
If I had to say something good, fortunately I'm now able to live on my own as I've rented a small apartment for a good price.
I get about 6/4 hours of sleep a day. I work from Monday to Saturday, fortunately I don't have classes at the weekend so I get a good rest, but it's still a tiring routine.
So it often happens that I simply black out because I didn't sleep properly or didn't have time to eat since I rely on public transportation to get around.
Maybe you're wondering why I don't get a lawyer, right? Well, it turns out that I would hardly lose in court, but it would take a long time for everything to be decided, and it turns out that until that happens I would be mired in debt or would have a lot of money to pay.
I've been with this company for a year now and I'm currently 16 years old and it turns out that the vacations are coming to an end and school is starting again, which is unfortunate for me. I was managing to cope with the workload during the vacations, but with school coming along it's going to be tiring and difficult
Fortunately, there's still a month to go before school starts again. They start in February and we're currently in January.
So there's a question that's always interested me and I'm going to ask you. What kind of superpower would you have if you could choose?
Many would say Super Strength, Flying, Telikinesis and so on. But for me the answer is very simple and obvious: I'd like to have Clones.
Okay, remember I said that today something very strange happened? When I woke up I saw myself.
That's a confusing answer, isn't it? To be more precise, when I woke up there were two of me.
I think I have a clone now.
