Chapter 70: 70. So un-Liam-like
"That was ten years ago!!", Maria immediately retorted. Ten years is big gap… And people change over time, right?? But sadly, that was not the case here.
"Yes. But I see no difference between the present Maria and the 14-year-old Maria… There is no change in you, except for a very serious increase in your stupidity...", Lara again got back at her with a serious expression.
Lara was feeling worried about Maria being used and thrown like some disposable cup by the wrong people given how gullible she was.
"Humph…", Maria sat down with a slightly annoyed face. She badly wanted to retort to all the accusations, but she couldn't because they were true.
She had a long history of stealing the special chocolates that Lara saved for later. How much she wished she wouldn't have been that stupid, but what could she do??
Every time she sees sweets, she just loses control…. They just look too tasty… And she knew that they were amazing because Lara stored only the best out of the best chocolates for later…
Those shiny glittery wrappers…. The scent of sweet chocolate…. Won't these chocolates be best if they are eaten right then and there…. They looked so incomplete and lonely… So she would help them get rid of their loneliness by giving them some company… You can't blame her for that, right??
And another reason why she shut up was because Lara was exceptionally quick witted. Looking at her face, one might mistake her for being a completely innocent angel, and she is one most of the time.
But if she gets into form, she can make the other person regret even looking at her with her special skill of turning one's own words against one.
The others were just looking at the two of them bicker with smiles. Such true bonds were a rare sight in today's time.
Also, two guys were busy admiring their girls from the side as well. Liam could not take his eyes off Lara's face that was glowing because of her smile, just like Miles who couldn't take his eyes off Maria's pout.
If they were alone, they would have definitely pulled their girls in for a kiss right there.
"Anyways… I'll go and get them…", Lara said. She was about to go, when a voice made her stop on her tracks.
"I'll go with you.", Liam immediately said and stood up. Lara turned and looked at Liam with surprise.
Everyone else in the room were just staring at Liam in shock. What happened to their cold boss?? Since when did he start helping people??
First they see him come for a gathering which is soo un-Liam-like. And now they are seeing him offer assistance to Lara. Should they get him checked by a psychologist??
This was going through each one of their minds.
Lara hesitated for a moment before agreeing. "Okay boss…", she replied. It wouldn't do any harm having an extra pair of hands right?
Liam smiled and picked his phone before following Lara.
The back-up lights in the basement were not working properly so they had to adjust with their phone's flashlights.
"All the games are kept together… But I just don't remember where…", Lara said while looking around the room.
"Hmm…", Liam just hummed in response while lazily showing the light across the room.
Even though Lara was looking around for the games, she couldn't concentrate on her search. Her mind kept going back to what Liam said.
'I'll go with you'
His words were getting repeated in her mind. 'Wasn't he supposed to be a person with a cold personality??', Lara thought in confusion.
She was also quite familiar with all the rumours surrounding Liam. His cold personality was quite well known among most business aspirants. But she couldn't figure out why she never felt that so-called cold and distant aura around him when she was with him.
Lara was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn't see that there was a box on the floor.
"Yikes!!", Lara yelled while tripping on the box. Her phone flew out of her hands and landed on the ground with a thud.
Thud.
She closed her eyes, expecting fall at any moment. 'Wait. Why don't I feel pain??', she thought and opened her eyes. First her eyes landed on her phone, that was fallen on the ground with the light facing the ceiling.
She saw two black orbs staring at her intently, when she looked up. And that was the moment when Lara Wright felt her soul leave her body and her heart trying to jump out of her rib cage for the first time in her entire life.
