Chapter 13: For Power
"Why are you doing this?" Fae asked Billy as he dodged another ice blade being sent at him. Billy had no response and just continued to attack Fae, but internally Billy's head was spinning.
'How's this kid so strong? His physical capability is even higher than mine and I'm a human rank 2. This kid is showing the capabilities of a rank 3.' As Billy tried to keep the calm composure that had been drilled into him the past 3 months that he had taken up robbery, he was spiraling. Eventually Billy remembered a rumor that was popular in the crime circles of Levings. A rumor about a group of people who used unknown methods to increase their capability way beyond that of a human, even without a bloodline. A group of elites known as 'The Forsaken'.
"How are you so strong without a bloodline? Are you part of The Forsaken?" Billy finally broke his silence to ask. "What is a forsaken? You can speak? Could you please just tell me why you're attacking me?" Fae began to bombard his attacker with questions.
'So he isn't a forsaken? Whatever I need to wrap this up.' Billy thought to himself as he began to bombard Fae with ice attacks.
Fae dodged left and right jumping all around the alley trying his best to avoid taking another blow from his attacker. Fae had never been a good fighter and even though he was stronger and faster than his attacker physically, his attacker seemed to be a much more experienced fighter, especially with his bloodline abilities thrown in the mix.
{System suggests Host purchases a combat manual from the item shop.} The system sounded in Fae's head as he ducked under another uppercut and dashed towards Billy, slamming his fist into Billy's stomach. 'Combat manual?' Fae asked the system internally.
{A manual is a book of techniques and styles, the system will automatically integrate the knowledge of the manual into your head upon purchase.} Fae felt hopeful as he heard this, the biggest thing he lacked in this fight was experience and technique. Fae had just punched and kicked his way through his fights so far, but against more trained fighters this had no shot at working.
'Alright system, what do I buy?'

'Here the system goes with this eater stuff again' Fae thought to himself with a sigh. 'Well, here goes nothing, yes purchase the manual' As soon as Fae completed the thought he was hit with a wave of information, giving him a headache and almost causing him to lose his footing and fall over.
Billy capitalized on this sending out a quick right jab going straight for Fae's face, but suddenly Fae knew exactly what he needed to do.
Fae grabbed Billy's outstretched hand as he fell shifting his weight to flip Billy over him and slam him against the ground. As Billy hit the ground Fae immediately punched down on Billy's chest, effectively knocking the wind out of him. With that Fae stood up pressing his foot down on Billy's neck.
"Now answer my questions." Fae said in a demanding tone, loosening the pressure on Billy's neck just enough to let him talk. "Why did you attack me?" Fae asked staring into his attackers eyes.
Billy was at an utter loss for words. To his knowledge this kid had absolutely no bloodline, he was a mortal. He refused to believe he was defeated by a mortal, this was against everything he had ever been taught. 'This MUST be someone from The Forsaken.' Billy kept thinking to himself.
After a few seconds of silence Billy finally spoke. "The eye of the sun gazes upon you." Fae listened to his words and wore a confused expression. "What?" Fae asked dumbfounded.
'The eye of the sun gazes upon you' was a popular term used in the underground or illegal crime circles of levings. It was a phrase calling upon honor and mercy, saying that the sun sees all and for that mercy should be delivered. The one who this phrase was said to was supposed to spare the life of the speaker, at the expense of the speaker owing a favor of any proportion. This was a rule upheld heavily in the underground making sure people followed the debt they owed in exhange for their lives.
As Billy looked at Fae's expression of confusion he knew this man had nothing to do with the underground. This was truly a normal human who had just bested him in combat. At the thought of this Billy lost all will to fight, believing he even deserved to die.
As Billy got a peaceful look on his face Fae knew that he wouldn't get any information on him and prepared to knock him out and go, but before Fae could do anything the system spoke in his head.
{Use Devour on him.} The system spoke in an almost demanding tone. "What? No." Fae was so surprised he even spoke out loud, causing Billy to stare up at him in confusion. {You need to gain a bloodline ability as soon as possible, you need to become stronger.} "I'm not going to kill this guy, in the end he wasn't even strong enough to kill me, I overpowered him. Wouldn't killing him at this point just be cruel." Fae reasoned with the system. Billy became terrified as he was hearing this. Was this guy crazy? Was he deciding whether or not he would kill him with a voice in his head.
{Fae please listen, I can not give you much information yet but you must understand, you need to do this.} The system told Fae almost sounding sympathetic. "No. I'm sorry system, I appreciate everything you do for me, I truly do, but I can't jeopardize more morals and kill someone for nothing."
{In that case I apologize Fae. I didn't want to do this.}
{Quest Activated: Devour the bloodline of your attacker}
{Rewards: +2 bloodline points}
{Penalty for failure: Death}
Fae's eyes became teary as he read this system message. "Why would would you do this!" Fae screamed at the system.
{For you Fae, for power.}
