Chapter 18: A Friendly Conversation

"In my past years of life, I thought that my worthless life can't get any better. But it's not entirely true. Even I can be happy in my current life. Look at the beautiful sky, Peter! Isn't it feel really good to see? Seeing it make my heart full to its fullest. It has a charm that only I can understand." As I was talking out of my usual self, Peter who was seating lazily on to my bed ended up making a suspicious expression. The expression I wasn't familiar with. He glazed at me intensely, finished it with a long sigh.

"Jodan, you changed a lot. This isn't the guy I was friends with for more than two years or more. The lonely boy I knew about shouldn't have said such lame and unnecessary things. I mean he would rather die but say those. Did something good happen to you recently? I wasn't able to contact you as I was out of town. Has someone changed you?

"Huh?" for a single moment I was thrown out of my place with his utter truth.

"umm... If I think about that I lately made a friend named Jessica."

An imaginary arrow flew through Peter's heart. He held his chest in pain and acted accordingly.

"You… Made.. a.. friend… and.. that is a girl?" He broke out in tears. Were my words move him this much? As I wondered why he was crying, he put his hands on my shoulder and said, "Although I'm proud of you, Jodan. You have made it through your depressing life. You are not scum like before. You are not the solitary bastard, now." Peter wiped his sight with his t-shirt.

"You don't have to curse me there. I know myself." He totally ignored my saying and continued.

"So, what's this girl look like you're fallen for? Don't tell me she is a thug"

"Fallen for? I didn't say anything like that. She is just my friend, that's all."

"I know you very well, Jodan. You're definitely in love. That's why you're babbling nonsense earlier. People do that when they were in love."

"Stop.. It" I was flustered. To hide my embarrassing look, I once again looked out the window.

"It might be simple for you to say such a thing. But here, I'm not ready for it."

"For what? Love?"

I averted my sights to him again with anger.

"You don't have to spell it out!!"

"'kay, okay. Easy." He backed off a little to maintain distance between us, "You don't have to be so shy."

I wasn't actually that shy. It's that I never experienced such teasing. In high school when boys were asked out by girls, they would tease each other by saying their names loud. On the other hand, I never got asked out. Am I that ugly?

"Even so, I don't want to get my hopes up. Because I didn't know Jessica would accept me in the first place." Said that I became down.

"Don't be so depressed. You haven't asked her out. Then why are you getting low?" He patted my shoulder and tried to motivate me but ended up badly.

"How would you know? You don't even have a girlfriend"

Peter stopped his patting and froze his place. Snap to reality my friend.

"That was harsh, Jodan. It's true that I don't have any but I knew about love more than you."

"Oh! I know just reading romantic novels and online! Right? Where the hell practical knowledge went? This is the time I need practical information more than theoretical."

"That's a problem, I suppose…" Peter made a long and tried sigh. He again laid on my bed that was broken but I somehow managed to fix it. It had to go on some serious surgeries to live.

"Your room is massed up more. The bed is also in a bad shape. Did some wild mob entered your room and kicked your ass until it was ready for a hamburger patty?"

"That's a bizarre thought. How did you end up in that conclusion?"

Both Peter and I chucked to our useless engagement of words.

I hope nothing bad happened between me and Peter. He's a good guy. I should not involve him in my problems. I mean the diary thing….

Peter went back to his home after a bit and I was left alone.

The more I think about how I to get our relationship better, the more I got depressed thinking that If I ended up getting rejected by Jessica.

A slight knocking sound wavered my half-conscious mind. If not for that sound I would have fallen asleep. Either way, I mindfully went to see who's knocking on my wrecked door that was wisely taped to prevent it from falling apart. Truly I was also impressed to me that how well I taped the door even though I wasn't good with handling those stuff.

As I pulled the handle of the door to enter the person standing outside, I saw an angelic face with full brightness. It was so bright that I couldn't help but to avert my sights. Seeing me getting embarrassed for no such reason, she chucked in excitement. Is that something to laugh about? I wondered but my brain didn't give me any answer. I was looking down at her. That might be what she thought because the next thing she uttered,

"Umm, sorry. I didn't mean to laugh. It's just your face is quite funny at that moment. I couldn't resistant myself. Ha… Ha."

Even though she was apologizing to me, she continued her unreasonable chucked. Was that supposed to make me feel good or worse?

She made her way inside my room without asking. It's been her diary routine to visit my apartment. If she didn't come one day, Even I would feel like something is missing.

"Good, Then let's watch this one" She pulled out an old DVD that she was hiding on her back.

"What? A movie?"

She nodded in appreciation, "Correct, Jodan! It's an R-rated movie."

"Huh? R rated? You wanna watch it with me?" I said in confusion. I didn't understand why she brings that movie. She could watch it in her room peacefully. Why bother to bring it here?

"You're scared?" She glazed at me straight into my eyes. I averted my eyes swiftly.

"Why would I? I'm not scared of such movies. I watch over a hundred of horror terrifying movies. It's just a piece of cake to me." I indeed watched over hundreds of horror films but each time I ended up cried out of fear. It was when my college classmates form a group to watch them on a weekend. I had to attend it due to stupid Peter. I only agonize Peter for that one reason. Even though I told him that I don't like horror stuff, he would tag me along with him saying, "You would be able to make more friends and of course...Get along with girls."

"Then get some snacks and we will watch it all night." Saying that she inserted the DVD t my pc and raised the volume to max.

"Sh*t, I'm in a dead game." I got to my fridge to grab some snacks that asked for and returned to my room, a seat next to her. Too close, you don't have to close the gap between us. She unconsciously cut the distance amid us.

The film began with the old cliche intro. She started gulping the snacks on after one.
