Chapter 23: Triumph over past
The Ice bear came crashing into Yang Ding.
Boom!
The bear crashed with a tree. The tree got uprooted by its force.
Yang Ding?
He had dodged the onslaught far before the bear could notice.
The bear's head was stuck inside the tree rendering him unable to move.
"Tch Tch… beasts like you are stupid indeed. Not knowing where to poke your nose. Haha," Yang Ding continued, "Now that nose is stuck inside a tree!"
"HA!"
Yang Ding brandished his sword and slashed the beast's left leg.
"Screech!" The beast roared in pain.
Blood came oozing out of the dismantled leg like a fountain, yet the beast was unable to do anything. He had no hope… he can only struggle.
"How does it feel, to be dying?" Yang Ding asked but none of the words reached the beast's ears. It could only bellow in pain.
"You won't answer I see… Why won't you answer, you f*king beast!" Yang Ding stabbed his sword at his stump. The sword sank where his missing leg should have been.
"Roar!"
"Do you feel like answering now?"
"Roar!"
"Yes, scream… scream as much as you can. Your screams are melodies to my ears. They remind me that I have already conquered my crippled state and have won over you! You couldn't harm me… or did anything to me. Rather I am the one who will be killing you."
Yang Ding held onto the hilt of his sword and twisted it. The sword twisted and churned his flesh making its wound wider and wider.
*Gush* *gush*
Blood splattered more. Some of it dyed Yang Ding's white robe in red. Unlike the Purple imps, this white bear had red blood like humans.
Yang Ding's evil smile, the pleasure that he was receiving from hearing the beast's screams, and the beast's inevitable death all pointed to one thing.
Yang Ding had a deep grudge towards this beast. But now he had conquered his past.
The beast lost too much blood and died without a sound.
*ping*

Yang Ding took a deep breath.
"Calm down Yang Ding. How can you get so worked up over a single weak beast? It was the past, a past that has been already been conquered," Yang Ding reminded himself.
In some parts of his heart, Yang Ding was ashamed of his behavior.
He was the Patriarch of his clan. And yet when he came out in the wild, facing the world, not from behind the protection of his brothers, he lost his cool so easily. He is not acting like a patriarch at all.
Yang Ding shook his head at that thought.
"No, I am not a patriarch anymore... There are no responsibilities on me anymore. I am Yang Ding, just Yang Ding. I will do what I desire. Since when did I ever follow others? I always did, what I thought was right. It's just the lack of responsibilities that are causing me to act so ...recklessly," Yang Ding nodded. "But still it is not too bad. No responsibilities… Living like a wild beast, doing what I want... I like it!"
Yang Ding gazed at that dead beast. His chest brimmed with pride at his accomplishment.
"Maybe, I found some other part of me that was hiding deep in my persona," Yang Ding smirked.
"Roar!"
Two more beasts appeared.
"Roar!"
"Well that's some challenge, come at me!"
Normally, one has to struggle to fight two beasts of equal rank but for Yang Ding whose sword arts was second-best in the continent only failing compared to the five Great clans, and his Sprint Manifestation which was leagues above a technique an Ice Profound cultivator should have… This fight wasn't that much of a threat to him.
*swoosh*
With a burst of Yang energy, Yang Ding disappeared from their sight.
One of the bears who noticed his smell turned around sniffing the air around.
But it was too late.
"Geijing Sword Art 1st form"
"Piercing Crust!"
Yang Ding moved swiftly and stabbed the bear in his skull. Even his thick skull was no match for his sword technique.
"Roar!" the beast cried a last roar of pain.
*spurt* *spurt*
*ping*

Seeing his friend die in front of his eyes, the bear got furious. He brandished his claws and swept them against Yang Ding. Yang Ding activated his Yang Energy around his legs and dodged the claws at the last moment by a hair's breadth.
"Haha, you might be fast but I am faster than you," Yang Ding claimed.
"1st form sword technique!"
*stab*
The bear who couldn't control his momentum was stabbed brutally at its heart by Yang Ding's sword.
"Screech!"
The beast fell on the floor of the forest motionlessly.
Although beasts do have tougher bodies than humans when they are at the same cultivation stage but that doesn't necessarily mean that their body form is the most suited to fighting. Because of the Ice bear's huge body, it couldn't dodge Yang Ding's sword and met its death.
The humanoid form is well known far and wide as the best form suited to battle, and the beasts with this form are feared the most.
*ping*

"Ha... Ha"
Yang Ding panted for breath.
Using the sprint consecutively two times still makes him a bit tired.
Whoosh!
Yang Ding stretched his hands to prepare himself.
"Where are you hiding beasts! Your daddy has come today to annihilate you all!"
Yang Ding took out his sword from his scabbard.
*swish*
He dashed as he disappeared into the wilderness leaving the three carcasses of the Ice beasts behind.
Even now Yang Ding hasn't realized that these Ice bears are attracted to fresh blood. And indeed the direction he was running wasn't where he would find the Ice bears. Rather he will find them where he had just fought the battle.
Sometimes lack of knowledge becomes a great hassle…
