Chapter 276: Don't
His body rigidly went up and down as he forcefully pushed against Ying Yue's chest, trying to get her heart to start beating on its own again. "Come on, come on." He could feel the intensity of his boss's gaze through the glass window. And he knew, that if the man's wife didn't survive today, all hell would break loose.
Another doctor ran inside the room to help.
"One minute to the next rhythm check and change compressor--"
Beads of sweat rolled down Li Hsiung's face as he focused on trying to revive the young madame of the Fei's.
"Rhythm check and change compressor—"
"One minute to second dose of epi—"
Li Hsiung quickly placed his stethoscope on Ying Yue's chest only to still not hear any heartbeat. He worriedly nodded his head to the other doctor for the man to start pumping on her chest again. He didn't glance over at Fei Huangjin anymore. If she still wasn't responding after the next dose of epinephrine, he��d have to appraise his boss of the possibility that she was a lost cause…
"30 seconds to second dose of epi—"
He bit his lower lip and watched the cardiac monitors showing minimal heart activity.
"Epi now please—"
"Second dose of epi given!"
The nurses were equally as tense as Li Hsiung at that moment. They had no choice but to feel that way when Fei Huangjin looked like he was about to kill off everyone in the room.
"One minute to next rhythm check—"
"Rhythm check!"
Li Hsiung immediately placed his stethoscope on her chest, and was about to flinch when he heard the faint beating sound. His eyes widened and he pressed his stethoscope closer.
Lub-dub.
Lub-dub.
The cardiac monitors detected it, too. And soon, the steady sound of slow beating filled the room. A collective sigh was heard almost instantly as the staff became filled with relief.
"Get me the patient's chart…" He fired off a few instructions to the other doctors and nurses, and then wrote a couple of orders on Ying Yue's chart. Occasionally, his eyes would flit over to Ying Yue, who seemed like she was really on her death bed. This was the second time she had to be revived today. For her to survive the ordeal… she must really be fighting to keep herself alive.
But as a doctor, he knew that the human body had its limit. If she had to be revived again, it wouldn't seem like she'd survive it. It would probably be best to talk to Fei Huangjin about it.
Because he was deep in his thoughts, the pen he used to write orders on the chart stopped at some point on the paper, and the ink blotted until it was almost the size of a dime. When he realized this, he quickly removed his pen and flipped the paper to see if it had affected the other documents.
He seemed to have made up his mind then, and strode out of the room to talk to Fei Huangjin.
"Don't." Fei Huangjin's commanding voice stopped Li Hsiung from saying anything. But a moment later, his voice gentled, almost cracking as he pleaded, "Don't…"
Don't tell me she's going to die.
Li Hsiung sighed and got down on one knee to look at Fei Huangjin in the eye. "I have to talk to you about her condition."
Silence filled the viewing area and the place suddenly seemed too large for just the two of them.
"I'm doing my best to make sure she improves, and Miss Ying herself seems to want to survive… But she's still critical, and we can't predict whatever may happen in the next couple of days. I need you to understand that there's a chance that her condition's going to deteriorate, and she might not survive the next time we try to revive her."
Fei Huangjin looked away from him, his gaze turning to Ying Yue.
"If she needs to be revived for more than ten minutes the next time she deteriorates, she'll already have at least some kind of brain damage if she survives it. As her husband, I want to know your terms."
